Im not being smart ass, seriously just curious. But is there any benefit of running a "staggered setup" on a front wheel drive honda? Maybe to keep the ass from swinging out in extreme cornering??.. I never thought of it like that, I always assumed the benefit of wider tires is for traction on your drive tires.
@milanmastracci8 жыл бұрын
Well because you can run a larger wheel in the back, you can run a larger tire, meaning more grip and control in high speed turns. It prevents the back end from stepping out. The main reason why people do staggered is when they have a RWD vehicle and wanna put the power down without spinning
@anthonygonsalves70207 жыл бұрын
On any front wheel drive car, no, there's no benefit to it. It's purely for looks (which is perfectly fine). Milan mentioned "...you can run a larger wheel in the back, you can run a larger tire [in the back], meaning more grip and control in high speed turns." which is true for RWD vehicles, but not necessarily for FWD, as that can contribute to understeer. Front wheels need more traction than rear in FWD vehicles (as you mentioned, Spectt).

It's useful for drag racing, just like the big drag builds use tiny front tires, they do the opposite for fwd so they get more grip in the front

I understood most of what you said, so thank you. I'm against these stupid thin tires and I hate how my 2015 Explorer Limited 4x4 looks (and rides) with the thin 20s and I want to change them to 18s (the other OEM size) but not sure if that is a wise idea, and I think Explorer looks nicer with 18s. My mileage is 102K so I'm out of warranty anyway. Should I go with 18s? Will the ride be smoother? Thin tires don't ride as smooth.
@milanmastracci4 жыл бұрын
Hey Basam! If you switch to 18" wheels, you will have a smoother, quieter ride, and tires will also be cheaper. If you have 20's right now, your tires can be the same width, but the aspect ratio needs to be larger. Lets say it was a 255/45R20, you might have to change it to a 255/55R18. Those aren't the real tire sizes, but the middle number has to be larger so the overall circumference of the new tire is as close as possible to the original size.

It shows that It would be off by 0.32 mph or 3.62 kmph, and the variance Is at 4.12%. The offset of my car Is 55mm positive I believe since the wheel Is basically flat at the face and the other one Is 45mm but the face Isn't flat and It's 1 inch wider. So does that mean that I can't buy the new rims?

My MX5 with 17" wheels came without a spare. I don't like the goo stuff, so I carry a plug kit for the common puncture type damage. I have had to make quick repairs a couple of times, and found that the smaller profile makes using the plug insertion tool more difficult as it tends to bottom out. I managed well enough with the 17" but may not have succeeded with more narrow sidewalls. Maybe inserting at an angle?
