This is a really good 101 for wheel tire upgrades. I'm in the preliminary process of figuring out a suitable upgrade for a 91 Volvo 240 sedan. Bought the adapters that'll switch the 5x108 bolt patten to a more common 5x110. I'm thinking 17s might be as big as I can go without having to roll the fenders. That 10 10 tires site along w your info here should help. Thank you.

Im not being smart ass, seriously just curious. But is there any benefit of running a "staggered setup" on a front wheel drive honda? Maybe to keep the ass from swinging out in extreme cornering??.. I never thought of it like that, I always assumed the benefit of wider tires is for traction on your drive tires.
@milanmastracci
@milanmastracci 8 жыл бұрын
Well because you can run a larger wheel in the back, you can run a larger tire, meaning more grip and control in high speed turns. It prevents the back end from stepping out. The main reason why people do staggered is when they have a RWD vehicle and wanna put the power down without spinning
@anthonygonsalves7020
@anthonygonsalves7020 7 жыл бұрын
On any front wheel drive car, no, there's no benefit to it. It's purely for looks (which is perfectly fine). Milan mentioned "...you can run a larger wheel in the back, you can run a larger tire [in the back], meaning more grip and control in high speed turns." which is true for RWD vehicles, but not necessarily for FWD, as that can contribute to understeer. Front wheels need more traction than rear in FWD vehicles (as you mentioned, Spectt).

It's useful for drag racing, just like the big drag builds use tiny front tires, they do the opposite for fwd so they get more grip in the front

I understood most of what you said, so thank you. I'm against these stupid thin tires and I hate how my 2015 Explorer Limited 4x4 looks (and rides) with the thin 20s and I want to change them to 18s (the other OEM size) but not sure if that is a wise idea, and I think Explorer looks nicer with 18s. My mileage is 102K so I'm out of warranty anyway. Should I go with 18s? Will the ride be smoother? Thin tires don't ride as smooth.
@milanmastracci
@milanmastracci 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Basam! If you switch to 18" wheels, you will have a smoother, quieter ride, and tires will also be cheaper. If you have 20's right now, your tires can be the same width, but the aspect ratio needs to be larger. Lets say it was a 255/45R20, you might have to change it to a 255/55R18. Those aren't the real tire sizes, but the middle number has to be larger so the overall circumference of the new tire is as close as possible to the original size.

So I should go back to my stock tire size ? My stock size is 225/60r17. But I had mounted 235/65r17 on the rear. And my front tires are pretty much done now so I was thinking of making those 235/65 also like the rear , so that I could rotate then if needed. Would that tire size negatively affect my ride ?

I tried the tire calculator, I've been looking at wheels that have the tire size 225/60r17 and my stock ones are 205/60r16. It shows that It would be off by 0.32 mph or 3.62 kmph, and the variance Is at 4.12%. The offset of my car Is 55mm positive I believe since the wheel Is basically flat at the face and the other one Is 45mm but the face Isn't flat and It's 1 inch wider. So does that mean that I can't buy the new rims?

My MX5 with 17" wheels came without a spare. I don't like the goo stuff, so I carry a plug kit for the common puncture type damage. I have had to make quick repairs a couple of times, and found that the smaller profile makes using the plug insertion tool more difficult as it tends to bottom out. I managed well enough with the 17" but may not have succeeded with more narrow sidewalls. Maybe inserting at an angle?

I am thinking about getting 18x8.5 + 30 size rims with 225/45/18r tires. I currently drive a 2014 Honda Civic coupe. Wondering if you think that would be fine. Or will it rub?

I have a Toyota starlet 97, they come with stock 13" wheels. I'm on considering putting 14" alloys. Is this gonna affect the performance of my car?

What would be a good brand of wheels or a good place to look for my first aftermarket wheels for my 09 Accord Coupe? Nothing too expensive and specialty, but something good.

I have seen the tire size calculators, however, my question is; can I fit and be safe 225/65/17 in my CRV LX 2013 instead of OEM 215/70/16? Thanks.....The OEM tires look small

I want to drop it and put a set of aftermarket rim on my 2017 civic coupe but I have no clue what I should do even after watching this video (I'm a noob, just start learning). So the stock rim was 17 and I'm thinking to run a 19 Asanti wheels.. so what should i do exactly? also is Asanti any good?

This video was super helpful, i'm new to the whole car scene. @3:19 you say you would be running very thin tires, but that is only true if you didn't want to also change the speedometer or "gear ratios" or whatever?

Can you help me here please, what is more convenient for me in this case? Honda Fit Shuttle 2012, comes with tyres 185/60 R 15 originally. I swapped around with the older car I'm selling because those tyres are new, being 185/65 R14. So my question is, which of these two different tyres are going to be more efficient in fuel and power for my car? 185/60 R 15 (Stock, original) 185/65 R 14 (The ones from my older car, I just want these only because they are newer, but if not efficient I'd just let them go selling the older car).
