Finally decided to throw this yesterday. I’ve never thrown a football jig before. 1st fish was a 4 1/2 pounder. I might have to keep it in the lineup.

Just bought some of the the Fish the moment jigs and trailers. I love fishing jigs . Back in 1998 I got to fish with Guido Hibdon in the 1st ever Tracker Legend Tournament on Table Rock. I learn more in 8 hrs that day about jig fishing than I ever did before in my life. Needless to say Guido won that tournament. I wish I could have got to fish with him again . I love fishing offshore but never thought about throwing a jig. I am new to football jigs. Caught my 1st fish on one the other day it was about a 15 lb. (Gasper-goo)Fresh water drum . Thought I had a world record bass on lol. Going to be dedicating alot more time to football jigs. Thanks Johnny!!!

Wow, this answered one of my biggest questions about graphing offshore fish.. I've never been clear on when it made sense to actually fish a good looking spot even though there are only relatively few or no visible fish. I often see structure and mark it, but just keep going because it doesn't appear to be CURRENTLY holding enough fish to make it worthwhile.

You mentioned 1/2 oz to 1 oz, but 1/8 to 3/8 are very effective too, especially for Smallmouth.

I usually trim it 1/2 to 1/4 inch from the base of the hook.

If a foot ball jig has the tendency to get hung up in the rock, would a swim jig fished close to the bottom occasionally touching the wood or rock work as well as long as your keeping contact with the bottom?
