Make sure you turn your torque wrench down to the lowest setting when you’re done with it. Leaving it turned up will ruin its zero. I’ve seen many guys not know this

When using your Torque Wrench, it is recommended that once you are done with it, you take the tension adjustment back to zero setting. This will relax the internal spring and help preserve its accuracy. A good quality torque wrench is a great tool. Thanks for sharing Jerry.

Got the to part 7:20 and realized that I've been over-doing my ring screws, and while I'm kicking myself (despite not damaging any of my gear, thankfully), he just sort like laughs it off, like no big deal, we all learn. What torque did you use on the base clamps ? Vortex recommended 20inch pounds. I couldn’t find it on the cantilever mount package. Only the 18 inch pounds for the rings. They supplies an 800 # for technical support. I called and the representative says 20 inch pounds to the base clamp, but said 25 would be ok ✅ I don’t mean to doubt JERRY BUT 40/45 may strip out the mount or snap off the screws, I’m sure Vortex would not stand behind 45 inch pounds. I set mine at 25 on my 1x6 Strikefire LPVO with the cantilever mount on my AR 10 308 cal.

@@VortexOpticsUSA I just bought one ( 1x6 Strike Eagle ) and installed it while watching this video, just a little concerned now, the torque specs seem to be all over this place. 18 inch pounds on rings is consistent. But the cantilever mount Jerry said he set his torque wrench to 40 then after tightening he said there 45 inch pounds ? So I googled it and depending on site it calls for 18 rings 25-35 clamp base. On another site said 15-18 Rings 40-50 clamp base ? Just seen another one of Jerry’s videos where he mounted a VORTEX RAZOR on the Cantilever mount and he said 15-18 on rings and no more than 33 inch pounds on base clamps???? So what is it ?? WTH

We used'ta sight in the main gun on our M60 series tanks with the old string and binocular method...set the strings on the muzzle...there were vertical and horizontal notches at the muzzle..then we'd get the binoculars and sight through the breech at the target and call the adjustments to the gunner who'd adjust the sight on his scope accordingly...this was the summer of 1971 at Ft Knox...

@VortexOpticsUSA
@VortexOpticsUSA 3 жыл бұрын
We do not recommend putting any Loctite or threadlocker on the screws as you are then dealing with a wet torque. This will act as a lubricant causing the torque wrench to slip and give you a false reading. Generally, adding Loctite to a screw can add about 40-50% extra value you to your torque setting.

I love watching Jerry. I have had the Vortex Precision Cantilever 30mm mount with their PST Gen II 3-15x44 FFP MRAD come loose off my HK MR762. I torqued the rings to 20ft/lb and it seems to be much better. I torqued the base to 50ft/lb. Maybe with a light recoil like the AR-15 shooting 5.56/.223 and a lighter scope 18ft/lb would be ok. I used 18ft/lb with no issues on a Warne mount with a Trijicon Credo on my MR556, no movement. I think the external piston operating system is a bit more violent.

Jerry.... how about using a laser boresight ? What are your thoughts?
@MikeNaples
@MikeNaples 3 жыл бұрын
I used one ~1 year ago after mounting a Primary Arms 1-6x24. It got me on paper at 50 yards for which I was relieved. Hate to go to the range and not be able to hit the target. I laser sighted in the house at the longest possible distance (only about 30 feet.) Tried bore sighting but it's really hard to see much out of the skinny 223/556 barrel. The laser set up is relatively inexpensive on Amazon and the only negative is that you have to be careful not to shine it in your eyes while fumbling around putting it in and out of the chamber.

Haven't had a chance to test if it holds zero, but mounts just fine and has nice clear glass. Centered vertically true to a plumb line with the crosshairs which is always a plus!It's a great kzbin.infoUgkxc4K63Fd5LglDMObu7-Bgapxp_ef0W8hE scope. There's no parallax adjustment or focus ring, so may be limited to 3-7x, have to see how it is on the range. Also be aware that the rings are "look through" so you can still use irons, but they are really tall if you only intend to use the optics. On a 22LR no biggie since I'm not shooting competitions or worried about a hard cheek press. Will boresight and range test, if all goes well, I'll leave it at that!

@@VortexOpticsUSA why didn’t you say something on Jerry’s torque specs on the Cantilever mount 45 inch pounds is twice what your company recommended to me on the cantilever mount base clamp ? Your company says 20 inch pounds on the base clamps. 18 inch pounds on the rings! Am I missing something here ???

@@alcantrell5340 Depends on the mount. Different mounts have different fasteners on those base screws, may be made of different materials, etc and can require different torque specs. If you called tech support and they recommended 20 inch pounds for your mount, go with that. On this precision cantilever mount, the base screws can and should be torqued up to 40-45 inch pounds.

That is a protractor head for a combination square. It looks identical to my Starrett protractor head, except mine is about 25 years old and his looks like it is 45 years old. Starrett tools are on the pricey side, but you'll have it for life.

As you can imagine there is quite the demand for optics right now - we appreciate your patience! The quickest way to get your hands on one would be to get on a backorder list through your local dealer.

That will depend on the rings/mounts you are using. It's always fair to check, but most of our rings/mounts do not require lapping.
