A tip a learned from an old cabinet maker is you can increase the precision of a bubble level if you put in edge of the bubble on one of the lines. In this use case a guy could clamp the gun in the vise at a slight angle side to side such that the bubble of the level is touching a line, then yielding higher precision when checking to see if things have rotated.

@paramounttactical Жыл бұрын
@@PTS68874 no worries. Typically a 36yrd zero is better ballistically than 25meter. However…. Neither are the correct way to zero IMO. The correct, or at least best way to determine zero distance is to use a chronograph and a ballistics app. The 36yd zero was determined to be the near distance ballistic equivalent of a 300 yard zero. The 25 meter zero was determined to be the near ballistic equivalent of a 300 meter zero. But that was for an M4 shooting m855. So the moment you’re not shooting that ammo out of a 14.5 barrel chambered for 5.56, it’s not accurate. WAY off in many cases. You need to get your muzzle velocity, the BC of the projectile you’re shooting, and determine your actual desired zero distance. We’ll say 300 yards for this example. You look at your ballistic app and determine what the equivalent near distance elevation is. For my rifle and ammo, a 27yd zero results in point of aim/point of impact at 300 yards. Easier way… do a 30ish yard zero and then actually zero at 300yrds. Hope that makes sense and helps. Thanks for watching! -Gary

Thank You. Unbelievable that you have reinforced my scope mounting process. Everything thing in your video its the way I have been mounting my optics. I additional check it with the flashlight on a grid that is checked Vertically /Horizontally for level. The only other things different are that you go a step I never thought of checking the upper and lower turret for level and using vibra-tite instead of Loc-Tite. Thank you for the additional tips. It is great to keep learning.
@bh6984 Жыл бұрын
I wanted to add a tip about Vibra-tite VC3. Apparently, according to Vibra-tite, the liquid will never "go bad" however the solvent can evaoprate over time (due to age or over-exposure to air - cap left off while working). Vibra-tite confirmed that Methyl Ethyl Ketone can be used to rehydrate thickened solution. They also stated that you might even want to thin the solution with MEK prior to use on small screws like scope rings since the fluid is only supposed to be consuming a fraction of the thread nulls. On my first attempt at using VC3, I apparently applied the thick solutions to heavily to some scope ring and action screw threads and, after having let the screws dry overnight, I found it very difficult to drive the screws in with a torque wrench. I backed them out, cleaned the screws with MEK, diluted the Vibra-tite slightly with MEK and then cut the supplied brush (on the lide of the 1 oz container) to be a much smaller width (better for applying to short screws). After reapplying a thinner coat, the screws torqued in much easier. Also, don't apply the VC3 to the leading threads of the screws.
@paramounttactical Жыл бұрын
I’ve never had any of those problems. I add a small amount to the last 1/3 of threads, let it sit for 5-10 mins and then torque to spec. We mount scopes professionally and do several a month. I’ve been using it exclusively for over 5 years and have used it on over a 100, probably closer to 300 optics and never had any issues. 🤷♂️
@bh6984 Жыл бұрын
@@paramounttactical My apologies for the incomplete context of my original post - here's a much needed,and accidentally omitted, clarification of my post: the bottle of VC3 that I had received from Amazon arrived with a leak from the lid (which they refunded and let me keep). After having difficulties with application, I reached out to Vibra-tite directly. I received a phone call from the company and they offered a very thorough and informative explanation of the VC3 product, including much of the information that I posted above (dilution/rehydration with MEK, cutting down their brush to suit your application, proper application thickness and placement upon the screw length, etc...). My bottle clearly arrived with a loose lid which had allowed for evaporation of the MEK solvent, thereby thickening it somewhat. I just wanted to clarify that I'm a Vibratite convert (thanks to the previous Paramount Tactical scope mounting videos) and that Vibratite 100% stands behind their products and are seriously concerned about ensuring effective customer use of their product.

Great Video Gary. Thanks for taking your time! 2 questions: you didn't mention the level built into the chassis. It didn't appear to align with your rail level. Can the chassis level be used for anything? Second: once you've done the perfect mounting job to the rifle as demonstrated, can you remove the mount with the scope and attach to another rifle picatinny rail and expect it to be spot on? If there's a standard for picatinny rails with tight tolerances, this should work.

Even if the rifle is tilted, as long as the bubble is flat, going up or down with the rifle it will follow the vertical line of the sight.

Question, after you install scope and zero it. Can you take the mount off and move it forward or backwards on the pic rail to adjust eye relief (w/ scope still installed)? Or will that ruin the zero. I’d assume it would ruin it but not sure.
@paramounttactical Жыл бұрын
It won’t ruin it. It might be off slight. Simply check zero and if a couple of clicks are required, do what you got to do. You should make those eye relief adjustment before you zero. If you don’t have proper eye relief, it’s going to be hard to get a proper zero. Mount, go to range and if eye relief adjustment is required do that then zero.

Maybe it's a stupid question, but wth... When do you know your eye is the correct distance from the optic? Is it just the "shadow" around the edges? I ask because Ive always had that when using other's weapons. When Ive asked, it's always brushed away with the reply "just move your head until you see the cross hairs, and they're centered". With that considered, I've still shot very well at distance - enough so to win numerous rifle matches in my youth. Would setting the distance so that there is no shadow be the better way moving forward?

Thanks for the informative video. All things being equal, what would be an ideal height of a scope over the bore? I have a Savage 110 Hunter bolt action and I am using for now a PA deluxe AR15 scope mount 30mm to hold a PA SLX1-6x24 scope but I am finding it difficult to to get a good cheek position to get a good view through the scope even with the highest cheek riser which comes with the rifle, does this mean that the mount is too high for this type of rifle and I would need to get a lower mount? What would you recommend? Thank you

Is it advisable to put on a jacket during the eye relief process, for those who use it for hunting? As you know normally hunting is done in cold season & it may require some correction to like 1/2 inch or more when shouldering to reach that perfect eye relief
@paramounttactical6 ай бұрын
Absolutely. You should be able to find a happy medium for optic placement that will allow you to use with or without a thick coat. Optimally, you’d just move the optic back during hunting season so you have perfect eye relief with a jacket and adjust it again for warmer weather so you won’t have to adjust your body to the gun as much in either situation.

What about the Badger Ordnance Dead Level? I was about to order one, but after watching this video, I'm not going to. The concept of levelling your scope to the rings on the BO Dead Level rail seems flawed since the rings may not attach exactly the same to the rail on the gun. Or if the rail on my gun is not perfectly level. So it seems much better to do the setup on the rifle. One of those Tipton vices seems like a better buy than the Dead Level, and it can be used for maintenance as well. Or am I missing something? Thanks for a great video! Very professional content and very well made.

I very much enjoy your videos and find them educational. I learned a lot from this one. I do not want to sound like a wise guy, but I was taught never to torque a second time. You will lose true value due to bolt and thread stretch.
@paramounttactical7 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! I’m not sure that point is worth a debate. Technically if you’ve reached a torque value then your torque wrench shouldn’t turn and add more torque. If I’ve reached full torque, when I recheck, I watch closely to see if the fastener moves even the slightest. It never does. It’s always worked for me and I’ve never had an issue after mounting hundreds of optics. (These questions are rhetorical) Who said that? Where did they get that info? Why would that be true? Why is what they said more credible than what I said based on experience with proof that it works? 🤷♂️ I’d say if you reach the prescribed torque value you’re likely good so go with the advice you prefer. Thanks, Gary

A question pls, how did you assured that the machining of the receiver/rail is perpendicular to the bore?
@paramounttactical4 ай бұрын
Technically it doesn’t have to be or more precisely, the question would be, compared to what? The bore is round. Ultimately, part II of this video covers that. The first thing you have to do is diagnose any issue. In part II I cover how to shoot a tall target test. A tall target test tells you everything you need to know about the performance of your rifle. When you identify it’s not shooting correctly then you start troubleshooting.
