This guide will show you how to resurrect pretty well any clipper lighter that isn't working.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I followed the sparking piece steps but with no improvement, I decided to flip the wheel, which comes out very easily between it's legs and boom, massive spark returned.

Perfect. I purchased a half dozen of these because they were reusable, but the new flint didn't fix it, however, your cleaning of the wheel did. Thanks.

I was going to say that overall you gave good information. Until you finished cleaning the nozzle. I rebuild modern and vintage lighters everyday for hobby and extra money. I love doing it. I know exactly how to clean adjustable and fixed flame. Have you ever taken the nozzle and button off when full? The only thing holding the flame valve in place is the black button that pulls up on it. Thats why its able to do that. Turning it any direction for any amounts of time doesn’t do anything. However I can tell you exactly how to clean a small flame easily. But you have to be careful. When full, pull off the button and flame valve and under is an aluminum sleeve with a micro hole. It’s extremely tiny to keep the flame a fixed height. If you poke the hole beside just touching it with a sewing needle, it will be a huge flamethrower and will never be the same. Basically just pull them off and clean the aluminum sleeve with alcohol or sanitizer. If the flame doesn’t change then poke it but barely! Seriously. Thats it. It doesn’t have a filter so the particulates clog that hole. I use paint brushes to clean. Use a toothbrush for the wheel and I personally replace them with a mini bic wheel or mk china lighter or neon lighter one. Other than that you gave good advice. I recommend buying a vintage lighter. You will never use a bic or clipper again unless it’s to use with others so yours doesn’t get stolen. Lol

@@blahhotel1499 I never took an interest until my friend asked me to fix his Newport Zero torch that looks like a piezo click lighter with just a longer flame valve tube. I took it apart and graduated through everything you can think of. It took me years to figure out how to fix the tiny flame on a Clipper! I just confirmed it 3 days ago. But im used to clearing the hole on adjustable lighters. I poked it with some pressure and it went up 4 inches! So basically just clean the micro hole well. Avoid poking it at all or adding any pressure if tapping the hole if all else fails. The reason clippers do this and not bics is because it’s refillable and used more so it has time to clog. Nothing to do with butane or any idea someone swears by. The way someone can technically “adjust” the height is by barely making the hole a 0.00001 bigger. Haha

@@blahhotel1499 If you ever need to, replace your clippers with mini bic wheels and it will light 99.9% of the time. If you are careful you can get a drill and barely expand the diameter of the flint wheel and fit bic flints in them. I’ve done it for years. Just do it by hand.

From a technicians point of view - stretching the spring is causing permanent and irreversible damage to a vital component piece. Some short term improvement at a rudimentary level for sure due to the increased torque friction, but once the spring has been stretched even once it's on it's way out.
@blahhotel14999 ай бұрын
It would be more of a problem on a $1,000 piece of machinery, but for a $2 clipper, less of an issue since you can just get a new striker cheaply. I understand where you are coming from, i too work with springs and it erchs me when people do this on more important things.

wtf man. is this this a Ferrari suspension spring? why complimenting when it just works
@k1dn1ce765 ай бұрын
@@oussama4629 It's not about whether the spring is expensive or not, or whether it works (for a very short time) by ruining the component piece permanently. It's about intelligent application by applying a solution that doesn't cause permanent damage to vital and necessary component pieces. Intelligent working solutions should apply across the board when speaking from correctly applied technicians methods. The fact it's a cheap lighter is missing the bigger (and very valid) point, but fair enough I get what you're saying.

I have used clippers for years, they're the main lighter for "smokers" in the UK. Never realised you could screw the nozzle! I often replace the wheels as they fall apart, I put in circular ones instead of the hex "safety" ones though. They are meant to go in one direction, but you can tell once you try em out.

did everything you showed in the video... I had 2 clippers that had to be struck like 10 times to get a flame. got like a 80% increase in functionality after doing all this... 10 strikes it lights up 8 out of 10 times now
@maximusnotsure82828 ай бұрын
There's 2 things I find annoying about clipper lighters 1: the screw in part of replacing flint, maybe this would not be possible, but a push and 90 degree turn with a little knob would be a major QOL improvement, again maybe this is not possible with the size we're dealing with here though 2: No safety feature on the striker, now I don't actually care about the safety part but it keeps the striker clean because your finger never gets in contact with it, if these 2 changes were made it would turn it into an S tier lighter 😂

Hey I have a problem with this lighter Idk why I have a terribly small flame
@CabeBooth2 күн бұрын
I was given one almost 20 years ago. It stopped working because i couldn't refill it. Since it was my first refill and all the butane leaked out immediately. But since I still have that lighter, i decided i was gonna figure that issue out. I noticed...... No brass ring on the fill valve. So I can only assume there never was one. I guess ot was DOA. But.... I was able to use it when she gave it to me. Which means...... it wasn't leaking. Until i tried to refill it. Odd. No brass ring, but was working until it ran out. I am perplexed.
@blahhotel14992 күн бұрын
@@CabeBooth i have come to learn that one needs to "purge" lighters occasionally. I had the same issue with a really expensive lighter, where it would just leak out the side of the fill valve. When i brought it back they showed me that you need to depress the fill valve and drain the tank of the filler gas that the butan comes mixed with. I forgot what purpose of the gas was, but every butane canister needs it to function, but it builds up in the tank.

@@Javad.Najibi47 Avoid WD40 or other oil sprays at all cost or be very very careful around the flint. It's not worth it, really make them act weird and striking a spark becomes nasty after a couple days. Had to reclean some restored Clippers, never again. 😁✌
