How heavy is the bag that you were hitting in the video vs. your body weight? Is there any value at all in hitting a bag that is heavier than you? Does the contents of the bag matter (water vs. sand etc.)? Thanks 🙏🏻
@bambaraboxing
@bambaraboxing 2 жыл бұрын
The bag I am hitting is 85 lbs, I weigh 170 lbs, so it is perfect. There is value in hitting a heavier bag carefully, assuming you still move it, and your structure doesn't suffer. You must be a technique perfectionist. As far as bag fillings, when they are filled with water the sizing rules go out the window. I regularly hit a 125 lb water bag and the water helps to absorb and decelerate the force. A bag that is too soft can hurt your shoulders as well because it encourages you to push, and creates a weird drag effect on your follow-through. I prefer lighter harder bags personally.

Maybe a video on how to read an opponent and build a game plan (of sorts) on the go. As a beginner I remember I had to actively focus on how my opponent stands, moves, holds his guard and how he responds to specific stimuli, to land a couple of punches. Sure, with training, these things turn into educated reflexes, but these videos are for beginners. Even in gyms nobody bothers to teach this stuff, unless you prove to be a promising prospect.
@bambaraboxing
@bambaraboxing 2 жыл бұрын
This is a great idea and I will be building a video on it, including setting and breaking patterns and baiting punches. lots of what reading an opponent is is recognizing reactions, habits, and tendencies and exploiting them. Obviously that encompasses a huge amount. But it begins by learning to weild the sweet science correctly, so you have an educated platform to build tactics and strategy off of.

There are a lot of "coaches" out there but not a lot I'd personally say are great teachers, I'd definitely put you up there as a great legitimate coach and teacher. I appreciate the videos they do help and they are well put together enjoying the vlogs too. Great stuff as always. Thankfully Tony Jeffries made me aware of the importance of using the headmovement and moving around the bag before I even started doing boxing,but there are some fine details in this video I'll surely have to incorporate into my training. As for the topics for the future videos,I'd love to see one on closing in on a taller opponent. I think you've already touched on this topic in some previous videos,but it'd be great if you explained it in more detail

I also find it difficult getting into range with a taller opponent so I second that. These videos are great, I regularly re-watch them after my boxing class to understand how I can improve myself. I find your systematic instruction style - 3 ranges / 3 guards etc. - is easy to understand and implement.

That bareknuckle warm up is a nice tip. I’ve been doing it for a few weeks now, first round is only with the wraps. Indeed it does hone up the technique a lot. Recommended. Edit: I have a question: About the punching up, how can I land with the two knuckles while maintaining correct punching form? I noticed especially with my jab that I can only turn it over and land on the two knuckles only on shoulder height, if it’s lower or higher I start landing on my door knocking knuckles. Thanks in advance.

Is there a beginners punching bag, gloves, and wraps that can be used to train for both Muay Thai and boxing as a broke and complete beginner? I have little knowledge on the equipment for each except that banana bags are used for Muay Thai. Is there equipment that can be used for more than one martial arts and are equally effective instead of being a weaker alternative? I wanna start with both of those martial arts at the same time instead of one over the other and I eventually wanna learn Leth Wei. I’m also 5’2 so does height affect anything into buying equipment? I also live in a place with fragile walls, door frames, and ceilings so I’m looking for a bag that’s great for both Muay Thai and boxing (and Leth Wei too if possible) while also having its own stand to hang from.
