Think you're going to love cooking on the KJ and you'll be amazed at the efficiency, shut top and bottom after you finish cooking and you have loads of usuable charcoal for your next cook. The quality is exceptional.

Hi, very nice to watch with attention since I've got one Kamado Joe Classic III that we've assembled on Saturday. However I do have a question: Before using it the first time ( of course we’ll clean any accessories) should we make a « fire » with the empty Bbq with all accessories inside or just the empty BBQ. How long and at which temperature. I’ve not found this information in the user manual. Thanks for sharing your experience. Best regards Christian

Hi Christian. Thanks for commenting and congratulations on your new purchase. I bet you are just as excited as me to get going and start cooking on these magnificent things! Your question is a good one. Kamado Joe do not specify that you need to burn the KJ before you cook any food on it. However, I did. Not because I was worried about it not being clean, but more to help me learn a little about lighting it and temperature control. I half filled the charcoal basket and lit it with a natural fire lighter. I then got the temperature up to 500f before slowly bringing it back down to 300f by slowly closing the vents on the top and bottom. Then, after holding the heat steady, I closed all of the vents and let to go out. Like I said, you don't have to do this, but I wanted to as I didn't want to ruin any decent food! If you subscribe to my channel, most of my future videos are going to be cooks on my KJ. Keep posted and we can learn together!
