Awesome video 👏🏻 Panthers are my favorite reptile. Two things to keep in mind... chameleons are dry shedders, so misting doesn’t actually help them with this. Chameleons also don’t adsorb water from the skin, so showers help with giving them a chance to drink more water, but not absorbing water.
@jamesd5564 жыл бұрын
Why do people house them in mesh type enclosures when they have such high humidity needs? I always thought it was because they needed high air circulation or if housed outside it allowed small flys and other protein to come in. I'd think an indoor tall arboreal glass vivarium would be ideal not a netted frame..
@NeptunetheChameleon4 жыл бұрын
James D556 Kind of depends where you live. Glass enclosures are great for dry climates, and screen enclosures are great for humid climates. Most chameleon species need 40-60% humidity which is pretty easy to achieve in a more humid climate. I live somewhere with already high humidity, so a glass enclosure would provide too high humidity levels with all the mistings that are needed for hydration. Upper respiratory infections are a real concern with chameleons. Screen enclosures help allow for a more tailored environment. You can cover one side, all sides, no sides to provide the right humidity levels for your environment. Any bugs that pass through a screen enclosure are going to be teeny tiny because the spaces are so small. Too small of prey for my chameleon to be interested in.

@@jamesd556 from what I know, chameleons have... ‘fragile’ lungs for lack of words. The ventilation needs to be good enough for them. Glass makes ventilation a little more difficult than mesh. I would suggest a glass and mesh hybrid cage for chameleons rather than an all glass or all mesh. Just to keep the ventilation good and humidity good too

There's a great amount of info here. Practically everything you could possibly need to know. I didn't know about the pollen and I haven't been doing that with my chameleon (Apollo) so now I'm definitely going to buy some. One thing I would add in the comments is that they need vitamin A to be supplemented. Idk if it was *specifically* due to needing more vitamin A but my first chameleon got an impaction which can be a symptom of low Vit A. It happened twice and he nearly needed his vent stitched closer together. I take the smallest liquid capsules they make, poke a hole at one end, and just run it across his mouth so he takes in the bit that makes it in. I do that once weekly. It really is cool how the chameleon has practically every talent a lizard can possibly have save for speed. Their tail, their eyes, their tongue. And then on top their colours. It's all really cool Their tongue also has a sphincter at the end of the tongue which acts like a suction cup along with their sticky saliva.

I’m wondering if a male panther chameleon would thrive in an enclosure with the dimensions 36 x 18 x 36? I find that the cages that are 24 x 24 x 48 take up a lot of floor space, width wise. But, they are always an option. What do y’all recommend?
