Not sure. The jim root is very different. It looks like a strat but nothing inside the guitar is a strat (different wood which change the sound a lot and different shape of neck and body to optimise a "faster" game). SD pickups are always a good choice. I recently bought an LTD Phoenix Black Metal with an Fishman Fluence ceramic and begin to dig that tone a lot.
@AndrewStonerock3 жыл бұрын
I was hoping he got a duncan black out preamp pot. Those will make passive pickups into active pickups. They are solderless too. You don't need a ground with active pickups. Passive pickups use you as a ground, that's why it's ground to the bridge, which touches the strings. No ground can lead to noise and shocks. Also, when soldering you want shiny solder joints. Dull solder is called a cold joint. They break easier. Or at least that's what I've been told. I've never had a cold joint break.

Rob, just reviewing this one.. that "tinny" sound remains but does give you the grit you are looking for.. the bridge is most likely at fault.. changing saddles to block type and adding a brass block would help a lot.. its not the bolt on as many bolt ons RIP.. also.. the soldering gun needed to be a slight bit hotter for sure.. lol.. rock on .. !!

@@RobArnoldWorld for me the 81 was "the" pickup for many years, especially in the bridge position. Until recently I discovered the Fishman fluence line. Normally I am not into "trends" and "hypes" but man I was really floored by the KSE set I put, just to try out, in one of my guitars. From then on I tried moderns, Willie Adlers, Tosins and singles and I was blown away. What is really astonishing about these pickups is also the consistency. I had a couple of occasions where the 81 just sounded harsh and a bit trebly to my taste. So with other pickups there are al kinds of variables in play (windings, wire types etcetera). The Fishmans are so unbelievable consistent. Every set from the same type sounds excactly the same. I think it is that technology that creates a huge consistency.

@@johnnysguitarcorner5510 Question- I looked at them briefly on Sweetwater last night. With the KSE ones, how do you switch between the three different modes? And it also appears, at least on Sweetwater, that they almost all come in sets of two, and neither are marked as neck or bridge. Does this mean they're meant for either position?

Question - I felt like there was a significant drop in sound quality between Resurrection and The Infection, and kinda guessed it was due to the Record Label cutting your recording budget. I always felt that if the album had been recorded at the same time as Resurrection (same gear, tones, mastering etc.) it would have hit way harder. Was there any actual reason for it? Technical or otherwise, or was it just the natural progression of the sound.
@RobArnoldWorld3 жыл бұрын
That's just simply an opinion, and therefor I can't offer an explanation. There were no recording budgets cut, and an equal amount of effort and passion went into making The Infection. Stylistically our sound changed, and so maybe that's the difference you're hearing.

Good tip! A couple weeks later, we ended up switching to a 500k pot on this guitar. Turns out it made zero difference in my opinion. I was expecting something significant!
@illuddivinus33093 жыл бұрын
@@RobArnoldWorld Yeah I guess that would also depend on how players set their pick-up too. Like raising and playing high on the bridge, which will require a tighter and more resonant pot like a 500k. Low-value Pots like (250K) tend to sound warmer due to less resistance and usually do well with Fenders depending on the bridge. However like you, I usually go high-value pots like a (500K) since they sound brighter with stronger resistors. It’s perfect since that Invader runs hot af.
@deceased663 жыл бұрын
Yea like Rob said I did in fact swap that pot out for 500k. Very little sound difference was noted but I’m glad I did it because most people recommend a 500k with a humbucker.
