Poetic devices 1. Alliteration - repetition of consonant in beginning like saved some part 2. Assonance- repetition of vowel sound like rain in Spain stay on plain 3. Consonance - repetition of consonant sound anywhere in the sentence like stalks his vivid stripes 4. Onomatopoeia - sound words like boom , splash ,weeck , snarl 5. Repetition - repeating of words like Amanda 6. Hyperbole- exaggeration which is not practically possible like Belinda giggled until she shook the house 7. Metaphor - direct comparison for eg . Riya is a night owl , chimney for a nose, silence is golden freedom is sweet, lencho was ox of a man 8. Simile - indirect comparison using like as - busy as a bee 9. Oxymoron - opposite words used together like deafening silence , quiet rage 10. Personification - human characters to non human like time is running, tree sprinting , hyena smiling , crocodile weeping 11. Synecdoche- part representing whole thing like I have 4 mouths to feed , has given my heart , a change of mood 12. Allusion - reference like Rapunzel or mermaid in Amanda 13. Apostrophe - speaking to imaginary listener like Oh Mango why are u so tasty to eat 14. Symbol - Hemlock tree or crow is a symbol of bad omen 15. Imagery - Sensation like merrily bouncing down the streets 16. Refrain - repetition of a particular line in the poem like realio trulio little pet dragon 17. Transferred Epithet - Adjective like sleepless night , angry finger 18. Enjambment - no punctuation mark 19. Anaphora - repetition of a word in start of 2 consecutive lines 20. Poetic licence - leap to lep or real to realio
