Do the end caps of the waterproof portion have a drainage hole? And what about the 45 degree cuts, do those get caps that fit? Do pests stay out of it? I feel like it would instantly get a wasp nest.
@anthonyhuffman10699 ай бұрын
I noticed the 45 degree ends were not capped in the drone footage at the end. The caps of the straight cuts appear to have drain holes. Didn't think about pests getting in. Good thought
@anthonyhuffman10699 ай бұрын
45 cuts definitely makes it look unfinished
@michaelbradley752911 ай бұрын
I would use Lexel to glue some of those ends caps on the diagonal cuts of the decking. With the cuts being longer because of the diagonal cuts, you may have to fabricate some out of the left-over decking material. That decking does look great.

We used this stuff before. I think it was 33 unit condo in total. All the decks were 6’x12’ or so. The guys from Duxxbak came and “certified” 3 of us to install this stuff. I left that job before they were tested but I had my doubts about it while I was installing it. We played hell getting the first one waterproof (the one the guys came and certified us by watching us install 3 boards each). We spent so much time putting in all the blocks all around where the deck meets the structure because there were bolts all in the way (this was a remodel) and the GC didn’t want to replace the joists. All in all I think I like the trex idea of catching the water with rubber membrane in between each joist and a gutter.
@walnutcontractors566111 ай бұрын
With the cost of a composite deck, why not just sheet it with plywood and apply a torch on membrane that is good for 30+ years. Waterproof and you don't need to go with some specialized composite system or install crazy blocking. Additionally you can layout your decking in whatever pattern you want as you've got a solid subfloor.

I noticed in the drone footage the 45 degree cuts on the front were open at the end of the deck. Is that like that for drainage or do they not make a beauty plate to go over the end of angle cuts?
@anthonyhuffman10699 ай бұрын
Re watched the drone footage looks like the straight cuts have beauty caps but nothing for the angle cuts with drainage. Kind of makes this system limited to certain designs like square or rectangle decks to look completely finished

@walnutcontractors566111 ай бұрын
@gregcoldewey7724 How much is that stuff $5 a linear foot? so $10/sq ft means $1000 a square vs $200 for a 3-tab roofing square. so 5x your average roof cost.

bet this was reposted because of the barrage of comments on the most recent project. I sure have my doubts. Eric's idea of using closed cell spray foam as an "extra later of protection" on the underside of the deck seems scetchy AF. But its his house and if things go south then its his business. Hopefully they don't spend a lot of time on the interior finishes because it may need to be gutted in the near future.
