How much did we pay for our complete solar system? We get this question asked a lot. Today we will be sharing the cost of our Solar system (batteries, panels etc.) and giving you an alternative and cost affective way you can go off grid. We continue our journey in the process of building our future Off Grid Home. We have been having some crazy storms and a lot of tress falling. So we will share some of that clean up!

Love walking in the rain on a hot summer day. Solar systems vary in price especially in Canada but prices have been going down every year.

Consider setting up few bat hoses around the property to significantly decrease bug population. They will eat mosquitoes, flies and other insects in huge amounts.

You should consider raising animals for your homestead. For example, you might want to take a look at the O'Driscoll Family Homestead Experiment in Canada. They raised goats, pigs, and chickens, which, in my opinion, are quite useful as long as you don't overwhelm yourself by adding too much to the property. For instance, chickens can live off the land by eating insects and turning compost, which aids in compost production for your future garden. They can also consume your kitchen scraps in exchange for eggs. Goats can also assist in clearing shrubs without the need to enter dense terrain. If you keep their numbers low in comparison to the pasture they get to free range in, you can cut their feed by 2/3rds compared to caged livestock raising.

you mentioned you have 15kw of batteries, and it seems like its not enough. is that mostly from running the AC in the evening, or is it something else ?
@OffGridWithGinaThi
@OffGridWithGinaThi 11 күн бұрын
Yes. Sometimes, we run the ac or the dehumidifier at night to control the humidity inside the trailer. And also to prevent small flies that can go through the window screen from getting inside.

I am a bit pissed at your solar dealer. I just checked for 23k cad, 10kw inverter 15kw of solar and 57.6 kw of battery, rails not included. They should have sold you bi facial panels, with 15kw BF PV in overcast makes a minimum of 4kw and that means no generator needed, ever,I have mine mouted vertical no snow sticks and they stay clean. Can you return it? Last year same system would be 3k more not a lot considering the differences in specs. I found 5600cad b4 tax/del 12kw of panels, 3kw+ with clouds, never clear snow. Sell the mono or repurpose for summer ac units.

Thank you for the tips. Can you share the company/dealer info, I'll look into it. I tried looking online and couldn't find those prices. Thank you for watching.

@@OffGridWithGinaThi I think my reply didn't go through cos I posted the solar dealer link. Solar online ca, the kit I quoted was $22400. I am buying the 605w panels, which are the same price my 465w were last year. I am expecting 140w overcast, since the 465w get 105w, a 12kw array 2800+w in overcast, mounted vertical in the open not on a wall. If you are not sure I should have my entire array repaired and running right by end of August then post video results, if you don't want to wait my recent short, solar is too easy in summer, just ignore pv3, bad mppt or panel, a video of the sun at 6am from the NE, pv2 @ 580w soon to have 4 arrays doing that, 2.2kw @6am. These are all minimum #s w sun and snow 12kw with be closer to 14kw. for 12kw 20 of the 605w, 5 panels makes a 3025w string at 248v.

That deal is for AGM Lead Carbon batteries with a random cheap Chinese inverter. The drawback with those batteries is that they are recommended to only be drained to 50% and have a low cycle count, so they are great for a grid connected emergency backup because they are cheap and plentiful, but if you are using them every day like an off grid homestead you really want lithium LFP so that your DOD is larger and they are usually rated for 5 or 6 thousand cycles. 6000 cycles is using them every day for over 15 years. You get what you pay for.

@@Snerdles lead carbon is not lead acid, I have gone as low as 10%, even the voltage chart is different, 51.6v 100% . I won't use lead acid it's trash. Charge rate is 11kw
@Snerdles
@Snerdles 5 күн бұрын
@@bobmonztr They are only rated at 2000 cycles at 80% discharge. They would have to be 1/3 the price to make sense.

Waking around with lighting with your son is not the smartest thing to do ..
