God bless both of them.He was such a great general , after the 1971 indo-pak war he has each and every soldier of Indian army such was his greatness. When I was in depression, I always study about the biographies of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Field Marshall Sam Manekshaw and Gentleman Spymaster RN Kao. These three people are the real heroes of our nation, but unfortunately these inspirational personel never honoured by the Bharat Ratna which they deserved.

What do you mean he is not given the credit? He's the one of the three "Field Marshals" (Which is an honorory title) provided to military personnel. Which also means, he can command the army at any point of time and there is no retirement. There's a leadership school under his name in the Army institutes. Do your research. Besides, FM Sam, was never fond of credits. Hence the credit to Pak Surrender was given to Grl. Jacob and he was in the background. The credits due to him can never be satisfied by mere govt. awards.

Both Professional knowledge and competence are fundamentally essential for leadership. Professional knowledge helps a leader to stay composed in a difficult situation due to their in depth understanding of their respective field and helps in efficient decision making. Whereas professional competence is mostly about effective execution of the knowledge, implementing the theoretical ideas on self and ensuring the followers/subordinates too abide by it. Both the terms are somewhat interdependent as just the knowledge is of no use if not executed and without the knowledge it's difficult to become a competent leader.

I didn't know that Sir Sam Manekshaw didn't get the facilities and honors from the administration and government of India at that time which deserved and earned while protecting us. There is no doubt that Indira Gandhi's ego and dictatorship is the reason behind this. If this is what the government of India does to one of the few honest officers then I will never try for a government job again nor even my children. I really feel bad for Sir Sam Bahadur.

For me, Sam Manekshaw's life is a poignant reminder that never surrender to adversities and be okay even in the harshest times! He was a man among men! India is lucky to have such an Army General and Field Marshal. Jai Hind, Jai Bharat!

I believe he will remain a legendary Military Commander for all time who will be remembered for his feats of heroism and his humility. He was a man of honour & integrity and a brilliant Field Marshal who was dishonored by the Politicians after his retirement in 1973. A sad indictment on the incompetent leadership in the political arena of INDIA. I was honoured to serve under his command & leadership, as Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army (1969 to 1973). Serving in the J & K Sector during the 1971 war "Operation Cactus Lilly" was my greatest honour as an Artillery Officer. Sam's life story is an inspiration for all & posterity will gain the knowledge of his courageous service as India's first Field Marshall. He was one of a kind Military Officer who was a visionary, competent and supersaturated with confidence & knowledge of his profession as an Army Officer. May his soul forever RIP.
