The Peter’s Rock agamas are also from North Africa. There’s not much good information available about them, but they do drink water here in Florida. I’m taming a colony in my backyard and they are also very intelligent and mellow reptiles. When the male agama is in a dispute with interlopers, his normally blue/black body turns white with black/gray markings just like the Uros! His head can turn a number of colors and becomes lumpy with a ridge going down his neck. This area is usually flat and smooth!

You got a beautiful lil guy! I do think he's a bit older than a year though. I also hope you mist your greens, just for more water. To help with his skittish tendencies I recommend hand feeding him, get some bee pollen granules and give him like 10 granules split up in a week, they love it so much! I got a guy that's a little skittish too, a rescue. He's also a red geyri/red saharan like your guy. The only thing I recommend is switching up your uvb, especially for your uro, I'd move it to be right next to your basking spot or else he won't be getting enough uvb because he'll spend most of his time by the heat. I see you got quite a few reptiles though so I sure can't tell you much, hope your lil dude calms down more!

Thanks for the suggestions. Been hand feeding lately and he's getting better. I've also moved his uvb right over his basking area. Thanks for the support and I never mind advice!

After talking to my breeder friend that breeds uromastyx, he said it is definitely not advisable to cross breed different morphs and/or subspecies. Even if they mate The offspring will not be healthy and they will be deformed and die.

Is it better to get a older one or younger I don’t want it aggressive
@Dragon_Whisperer3 жыл бұрын
They're normally not aggressive at all but occasionally you will find one that doesn't really like being handled. I would recommend getting a young one so that you can bond with it as it grows. I would suggest handling it personally if you decide to get an adult and don't necessarily take the Breeders suggestion that it is calm and handleable. Also if you get it from an online breeder or at a show, make sure it is captive-bred. Wild-caught often have different personalities and in a lot of instances have diseases or parasites that do not show right away.

How do you keep your temp at the right temp
@Dragon_Whisperer3 жыл бұрын
I just check his basking spot every day with a temperature gun but I had to change bulb wattages a few times and added a ceramic heat emitter but because my lights rest on top of the tank and they are a constant distance from his basking Rock once I get the right wattage of lamp and strength of heat emitter to get the right temperature it stays that way constantly
@randyallen33373 жыл бұрын
Very good info! What wattage basking bulb and heating element?
@Dragon_Whisperer3 жыл бұрын
I use a 150 watt high-intensity bulb but I also found that 125 White old school halogen flood lights get just as hot. I could never control the heat with the heating element and never felt like it was consistent enough.

@@Dragon_Whisperer thanks for getting back! Do you think two 75 watt basking bulbs in a standard 40 gallon would suffice?
@Dragon_Whisperer3 жыл бұрын
That will probably work if they are really close together and you can get his spot close to the lights. Hopefully you have an infrared gun and try to get that surface temperature around 125 degrees but in my experience it takes two or three hours for those temperatures to stabilize every time you make adjustments. Until the day that my channel gets so overwhelming that I just don't have the time I am going to make every effort to respond to every comment and question as soon as possible. I always will try to make the time to help people take better care of their animals or answer care questions. Please share out the channel and I hope you have a great day

All animals need a day and night cycle and the temperatures drop in the desert in their natural habitat at night and that facilitates them sleeping. I definitely turn them off at night

I'm getting a uromastyx soon I watched Davies video he was saying don't get sand get little rocks instead I was wondering if it'll be safe to do both? And if so should I get the black desert sand to hold more heat or should I get the clay sand? And I know not to get the sand with calcium or anything because of the risk of impaction. So I'm a little hesitant to get sand but I also want to ensure that my uromastyx will have the best life
@Dragon_Whisperer3 жыл бұрын
I don't think the color of the sand is really going to matter that much and you don't want it to get too warm on the cool side. I have seen people that say small rocks are fine but I steer away from them because I feel like they could mistake them for seeds and try to eat them.

What size habitat should you get for a Urimastyx ? I’m really interested in learning more and maybe someday having my own for a pet
@Dragon_Whisperer2 жыл бұрын
Ultimately they really do best in a 4 ft by 2 ft by 2 ft enclosure but a 36 by 18 by 18 is fine for a juvenile or sub adult but you will ultimately need to upgrade. Also it is an option to go with the 18 in or 12 in tall enclosure so that you can more easily achieve a higher basking temperature that they require if you were going to use above tank lighting because this will get your heat Source closer to the Basking area.
@olthousem022 жыл бұрын
Could I transform a twenty tall aquarium into a habitat for a uromastyx?
@Dragon_Whisperer2 жыл бұрын
@@olthousem02 a 20 gallon tall would be very difficult to use as a uromastyx tank. They require a very intense basking area and a tank that small will never be able to have enough of a temperature gradient. If you do get the Basking temperature in the 1:20 or 1:30 is where it needs to be than the cool side is going to be way too hot for them to ever be able to get away if they get too hot. You need a minimum of a three-foot-long enclosure so that you can have enough distance between your hot area and cool area to have a proper temperature gradient. It would be impossible to set up a 20 gallon tall aquarium properly for a uromastyx in my opinion. Impossible
@cherylj74602 ай бұрын
What about the other end of the temperature spectrum- how cool do they like it at night and during the day in winter?

Thanks so much for the reply. He’s 8 years old. I’m also getting a wooden viv - 60” x 15” x 15” but can possibly stretch it to a 60” x 18 x 18. Which should I go for? I’ll order it now :)
@Dragon_Whisperer4 жыл бұрын
@@sammieharris116 I really think the lower enclosure will help you reach the high basking temperatures you will need but that also depends on the decor you intend to use. If you want to use big rocks and deep substrate then you may want the taller enclosure but if you want to have flatter rocks then go with the lower enclosure but in most cases bigger is better
@sammieharris1164 жыл бұрын
So basically, I’m getting an adult Mali Uro and the viv I want to get is 5ft by 1ft-3inch by 1ft-3inch and it’s wooden, so when I use the ‘Arcadia Ceramic Lamp Holder & Bracket Pro’ it’ll lower the bulb by quite a bit and I’m worried it’ll be too low? Also, thinking of getting another one to have two in the viv in the future. What do you think is best? Sorry for all the questions! Thank you so much :)
