Love these vids! You should do a basement tour and show all your animals.

This year is the first year my uromastyx has done this fully. (Shes about 8) Never seen this behaviour from her, her skin seems really loose and shes seeming really lazy. I'm glad this video was posted because its good to know shes probably not dying.

My uromastyx is a Male. He was sold to me as female so I just call him a female.

Cool. I live in northern bc canada probably similar to Colorado. My Leo's freaked me out first year....now I'm used to it. Very similar to uromastyx.

How do you check on them without disturbing them? We just did a deep clean of my 1yo's enclosure and modified the substrate (to make it better for digging) and the layout a bit, and by the end of the day in this new setup, he had burrowed deep under/between some rocks on the cool side of the enclosure and hasn't come out in two days. We can't see him without moving rocks or something, but I don't want to freak him out by doing that or risk collapsing the substrate on him. Do you just get, like, dentist mirrors or something to look into the hole?

I've been considering the prospects of keeping Ornata outdoors near Tucson....comparing climate to Riyadh, seems like it's only a few degrees cooler. What do you think about this concept? Probably keep them indoors for December, January and February

Why do you cut out the dry food before cool down? I've heard of cutting all feeding during cool down but was wondering if you had another reason.

Nope I don’t have any, they aren’t really available here. There are some folks that have them but no one has bred any yet in the US.

My uromastyx is 3 years old but she is only 7 inch long , is it normal ? If it not What should i feed her to grow
@aridsonly3 жыл бұрын
Their normal diet will allow them to grow as they should, 7 inches is small for 3 years so you should examine the other parts of your care to see if there is something else lacking. Usually starting with temp gradient is wise.

My uromastyx sleeps in his basking spot all day and I got his Saturday he’s pretty docile but he hasn’t eaten since I’ve gotten him and I’m wondering if I should be worried, he doesn’t hide at all during the day and his basking temp is 130.

Try feeding him a dandelion flower! Mine did the same thing and that flower was the only thing that made him interested in food lol

My uros basking spot is about 98-100 right now and he does the same thing he sleeps almost all day and doesn’t move till I move him. I’m worried but I’m seeing a lot of people talking about this right now making me feel better lol

Do you NEED to reduce the photo period during these fall/winter months or can you continue the same schedule even if they are sleeping a ton? Thanks.
@aridsonly4 жыл бұрын
No it’s not a requirement but it’s very difficult to stop them from doing it. Might as well save on power bills while they sleep anyway 😎

is it absolutely necessary to shorten the time lights are on in the day? this is my first winter with a uromastyx and i worry the ambient and night temperatures will be too cold because my house is very old and a bit harder to keep heat.
@aridsonly5 жыл бұрын
emily brown no it’s not absolutely necessary to shorten the light hours but your worries are likely not needed either. Winter is at least halfway through so if your uro has been fine so far then no need to change anything. Ambient temps or night time temps that don’t drop below about 62-65 are not a problem.

I live in Arizona, would it be normal for a uromastyx to start brumating the beginning of February? It's been cooler here and my uromastyx has been starting to not eat his greens like you described in the video.
@colleeneastman55985 жыл бұрын
My girl woke up from brumation about 3 weeks ago and she still hasnt pooped. She wasnt eating much in the beginning but has started eating more and still nothing. Do you have any tips to help constipation? And when do you think its time to see a vet for an enema? I hate to do that to her unless its absolutely necessary as I know it would stress her out terribly. I do not have loose substrate so doubt it could be impaction. Thanks!

Idk Try putting it in a warm bath for a short time to soften up things in there
