I’m coming back to ynab after giving up on it and budgeting generally about a year ago. Thanks for all your awesome videos! I can do this lol

I discovered YNAB because of you and it’s a game changer. I have a budget, paying off my bills and even have a savings now.

@@TheAvocadoToastBudget Does this mean you aren't using Digit any more? Do you find YNAB to work better for you in the long run? (I also have ADHD and am really trying to get all of this out of my head and into a system!)

I pulled the trigger on YNAB last June after watching your videos. The credit card feature is so amazing and helped me pay down my relatively small CC balance while still being able to accrue rewards points. Plus I love that the targets can roll over money because it turns every category into a sinking fund without much hassle. Honestly the only shortcoming I’ve found with YNAB is the inability to plan ahead. So I do keep an annual budget on a spreadsheet so I can plan for extra income like tax returns or see what happens if I increase my 403b contributions

Ohhhhh that's such a good point!! I completely agree that one of the things I wish was a bit more advanced is how YNAB tracks long-term goals, NET worth, investing etc. I totally get why they don't, and I think they found what their strong suits are and stuck with it, but it would be super nice to have it all in one place! I've been using Personal Capita to track more of the long-term planning and love that!

This may be minor, but I"m curious how you handle things like Venmo or other pay apps. I'll do something with friends for example and then pay the bill on my credit card and then people will either Venmo me or Zelle or cash. How do you account for the different streams to cover that on the credit card payment? It may sound trivial but it happens enough to be an issue. I know, first world problems...

I like your use of the "underfunded" total at the beginning of setting up the budget. Annoyingly, however, after that, it is difficult to get that number ever again because it will be lower due to leftover budget carrying over from the prior month.
@TheAvocadoToastBudget2 жыл бұрын
I think that depends on which type of Target you use! That’s totally true for Needed for Spending targets. YNAB will carry over leftover money on a Needed for Spending Target. So if you make that category target $500, but have $100 leftover at the end, next month it will only assign the extra $400 (because you’ve basically told YNAB you only want $500 to spend in that category by the end of the month). But if you want to set aside $500/month no matter what, even if you have $100 leftover, try using the “Monthly Savings Builder” target on that category! That should tell YNAB you want to keep that Target consistent every month (no matter how much was leftover from the previous month). I prefer the Needed For Spending goals on my monthly subscriptions and variable expenses because I don’t want those to add up over time. But it just depends on what you prefer for your categories!

@@TheAvocadoToastBudget Thanks for the response! I figured out as well, after some googling, the intent of YNAB is to get ahead on your budget - ie apply income to future months. This way when you move into the next month, you are already fully funded (meanwhile paychecks that month are being applied to future months). Obviously it's a process to get there. Thanks for your video - I gleaned some good tricks!
@himexkoneko2 жыл бұрын
A newbie wouldn't know this, but you definitely had Toolkit features on. Like the total monthly goals isn't on the regular YNAB. Should probably disclaim that. 🙂
@TheAvocadoToastBudget2 жыл бұрын
OMG of course that makes so much sense! It's been so long since I've used YNAB regularly, that I completely forgot to turn off the Toolkit 🙃thank you for pointing that out! I'll put it in the description and make sure to mention it the next time!

I have a random question! In my YNAB everything is orange where on yours it would be blue - why is that? I know it's a silly little thing but it's making me curious!

I have the latest version of YNAB but I’m still just seeing 3 targets - needed for spending/savings balance/ month saving builder. I thought in your video it shows a new 4th.
@TheAvocadoToastBudget2 жыл бұрын
That may be my fault! I thought I had the YNAB Toolkit turned off, but someone pointed out it was still on 😬 The YNAB toolkit adds some features to YNAB through a free browser extension. The 4th target may be part of that! I have an older video about what the Toolkit for YNAB is, and some of my favorite features. It’s probably a bit outdated now, but the toolkit itself is consistently updated and I definitely recommend checking it out!

Would you add your subscriptions as a fixed expense even though they are coming off your credit card or would you factor in the subscriptions into your monthly payments? Because I created my budget on ynab and didn’t include my subscriptions. What do you think? FYI I have 10 subscriptions split between 3 credit cards.
@TheAvocadoToastBudget2 жыл бұрын
That's such a good question! I would put them in, that way you're prepared for all of them! In YNAB, it doesn't matter whether your subscriptions come out of your checking, credit card, or even multiple credit cards! You'll input the transaction the same way! Just make sure when you're tracking in YNAB you input the subscription transaction under the right credit card. It's a bit hard to explain, but I think I showed an example in my credit cards with YNAB video that shows how I set up my subscriptions with a CC in YNAB! I hope that helps!

@@TheAvocadoToastBudget thank you for your input and I will go back and watch that specific video. 😊

Hi! I love this video! I have watched a few on YNAB now and I have been setting up my accounts! I have a question though - I have a 9-5 job that I work, and then I have a photo business on top of my normal job. Would I create two budgets for this? I am having trouble figuring out how I should lay it out based off the fact that I have two places of income. Does that make sense? LOL Thank you in advance!! also your make up looks amazing :) xx

The YNAB software is really buggy. It will not connect my accounts. It just says server not found. Is there another app you like for ADHD adults that you like?
@TheAvocadoToastBudget2 жыл бұрын
I’ve been having trouble with my connected accounts for the last 24-48 hours too! They normally connect pretty seemlessly, but I think there must be a bug they’re working out! But I also really love Digit! I’ve talked about it in my ADHD videos ☺️
