I haven't had a good result with water in my Rita Berman books either, I've tried all my watercolor pencils and they all come out very rough. I haven't tried alcohol blender to activate in them yet, I may do that as a next page. I also tried posca for a background and it was so bad, the paper just fell apart.. I've never seen anything like it.. it really does not like water at all. I need to find a good base to use in them or rehome them. I saw someone use soft pastel as a base, but that is a medium I don't use as I don't color at a desk and it's so messy. Pencil only is lovely in her books, but too hard on my hands...one of the reason I haven't colored much in them. I have the old land/sea books and have only done a handful of pages in both. The last few I did with Prisma using the method of laying down the shadow color and blending it out with the blender pencil... which wasn't terrible and a bit faster. The red background on your reindeer page in God Jul is beautiful. I've been thinking of trying some Ohuhu waterbased markers, I love their alcohol markers. They have so many different types though, and they seem to discontinue one set and bring out another very frequently.. I'm not sure which ones are the "coloring markers", are they the thick ones that look like the alcohol markers, or the thin ones that look like Tombows? I saw they had a skintone set in the thin ones with some lovely colors.

The ohuhu color markers are more similar to a tombow, they are double sided, a brush tip and a fineliner, and I got them in a 160 set for a very reasonable price ☺️

yeh ive been thinking of gettin the inktense watercolor pencils but i dont know if i should bc i already have the neo colors2 and ive barely used em and the few times i did it was streaky too and i didnt like the look of it same thing for a small waterocolor palette ive..so i feel like the inktense pencils will just do the same and be streaky and hard to use bc im not used to it.. your pages all looks really good tho.. huuu love what u did with that small victories page turning the rock into ice and grass into snow and candy cane!! good idea i also really like the limited color palette on the page next to it. and the jars one too and the leaves haha.. huuu i like both wreaths too

Thank you for your kind words 🥰 I like to blend the Inktense also with an alcohol blender pen, that works very well especially for smaller areas

It really does depend on the paper. I do love my inktense, my only complaint is I wish they had more colors, and many colors are very similar to each other. One of the best tips I can give is to try just a few at first, you can buy them open stock. Look at some swatches online so you can see what they look like wet, the colors are often quite different once activated. Be light handed, they blend out much nicer with less pigment on the page and most people put way too much at first. They are way more pigmented than watercolor pencils since they are ink. As Anja said, try them with both water and an alcohol blender, they behave differently with each. You can also use them or the Neos by lifting them off the pencil/crayon, or off a palette with your brush instead of laying them on the paper first.. you may like that better.
