Opening soliloquy to Qairan Elim: "The Great Steppe... I praise your rich lands. Altai and Atyrau, Zhaiyk and Ili, Alatau and Saryarka - what expanses of my native land that has witnessed my happy years! I am talking about the Great Steppe - the golden cradle of the Turkic world. Hey, silent world! Do not hold your breath! You have descendants who never hesitated and did not stand aside during fierce disputes and confrontations. This land has an owner - a kind character and generous soul of whom could not spoil or break this changeable world with its distorted values. The Great Steppe has a guardian spirit, unknown to a stranger, incomprehensible to an outsider." This is how it was on the great plain of Asia. In this poetic gesture.. Dimash prays for all the world to come back, in the end, after the darkness has passed. We will suffer, but we will be tempered, and we will be reborn with the color of the mountains and the sky (displayed at the very end of this saga) in all their glory. Dimash is of great and deep thought, he prays for our earth. Dimash's prayer for humanity is both heart wrenching and exquisitely beautiful, all those powerful emotions hitting you, all at the same time, and left for you to ponder. Congrats Dimash, well done.. another masterpiece. Thank you, a heavy meaning indeed.

The first part of the mv is actually taken (with full permission) from a Kazakh tourism film and talks about the long and violent history of Kazakhstan. Contrary to what you thought, this mv was made on a shoestring budget with Dimash himself doing both directing and some of the camera work. They hauled all the equipment needed into the mountains and lakes by themselves on ATVs and dinghies. Dimash is not afraid of getting his hands dirty. It's his creative mind that comes up with the ideas and brings them to fruition. You won't ever find him taking the Kazakh songs through the roof vocally. They don't need to, it's the same with Samaltau, Omir Oter, Zhalyn and Omir. All beautiful songs where the lyrics tell the story exactly as it's meant to be told.

This song was composed, literally overnight (as Dimash once explained), by Renat Gaissin (the pianist on the video) and himself, on his studio. It's was created because of Kazakh people suffering while covid pandemic, as they heard of so many people dying then. The long introduction is about the hard trials Kazakhstan has been through along history. All the landscapes are located in Kazakhstan. That Kazakh musical instrument is called Qobyz, with only two strings, originally made from horse hair. The Qobyz player is Olzhas Qurmanbek, considered "The Greatest Qobyzist In the world", who you were able to see on Dimash's video "Stranger". He always performes in every Dimash's concert. Olzhas also has his own Show, "Magic of Qobyz", and you can see his short videos here in KZbin, on his own channel. Just amazing sounds and Kazakh landscapes. Renat Gaissin, is also the composer of some Dimash's songs like "River of Love" (instrumental, with Dimash playing the Dombra, and Renat at the keyboard), "Angel Love", "Omir Oter"(different from "Omir", another Dimash's song composed by himself) and, of course, "Qairan Elim". So here you have the name of some Kazakh songs by Dimash to react to. 😊❤️ P.S.: As Dimash recently said in an interview, every single song he's ever sang since very young, has always been arranged and produced by himself, no matter who the composer was. He also is the Director of his own videos, although he always listens carefully to the advices of the main Director.

Thank you for a wonderful reaction! He filmed it during the pandemic. It’s in his beloved Kazakhstan. Dimash was greatly affected by the grief this pandemic brought. Several people in his close circle passed away, including one of his teachers. So, you can clearly hear the pain in his singing and through his visuals. I am sure you noticed how everything was gray until the very end, where the green hills and the change to a major chord signify Hope.

This song was written & filmed during the pandemic. Dimash lost two of his musical mentors at this time so yes, deeply personal song. It is all filmed in his beautiful homeland of Kazakhstan (hence the title) which he promotes at every opportunity (he is first generation of an independent Kazakhstan). Plymouth UK 🇬🇧

Ok, as I have been following Dimash very closely since 2017 I need to ad up some info abput it. It is sung in Kazakh obviously and yes the title means My Holy Land. this instrument with 2 strings is traditional Kazakh instrument called qobyz. It is one of the most ancient string instrument and strings should be made out of horse's hair. It was used in shamanic religion (tengrism, Tengri is a sky god) for calling spirits and emulatings sounds of nature (wind of the steppe, dogs barking, wolf's howling). In ancient times people do not played music for entertainment reasons - they were taught that certain freqiencies can connect with nature ans its soul. Funny that I have read recently that scientists disovered that plants communicate with themselves just by using frequencies. This lake with drowned trees was formed by an earthuake, when hills fell and water from show drowned them. this vide was recorded as I remember during covid season, that's why it depicts death and disaster. But of course as everything that Dimash does it can be understood more metaphorically. Going through life we alaways will experience bad things and pain. That's why it was shot in black and white. The end if the video is in color meaning hope. the same motiff Dimash used in The Story of One Sky when after all calamities that happened he shows a characted leading a group of people to a better tomorrow. Like he was saying it is all bad, but there is still hope. This is my little explanation. Greetings from Poland - Karolina

There are many places in Canada that look like the landscapes of Kazakhstan as well. There is a place not far from where I live (I live on the edge of the Canadian Sheild), that also has the narrow conifers in standing water surronded by grey granite outcropping. I love this song despite the fact that I cry every time. 🥹 The sadness is overwhelming in Dimash's voice for this beautiful composition. You have barely started into Dimash's world. 🙄 There are plenty of songs in different genres with little or no "performance acrobatics" involved. Most of my favorite, listen to everyday songs, fall into this category. 🥰🥰Much love from a Canadian Dear🇨🇦

All filmed in his homeland, Kazakhstan. It was during the pandemic and Dimash lost people close to him from Covid. It’s a Prayer for the struggles of everyone at that time but it started with the battle scenes because the message was Kazakhstan has always had struggles, battles and strife but we can all make it through if we do it together. The instrument was the Kobyz. He has a lot of songs that don’t have a wide range. One of the most beautiful I think is a recent release composed by the same Kazakh composer as this song, Angel Love. kzbin.info/www/bejne/raPOiZV9mrFljdk

This song was composed by his friend Renat, the pianist, about the love of his homeland. The beginning was basically a quick history lesson of Kazakhstan 🇰🇿, how their people had fought through the ages and how proud they are of their heritage. This was all filmed in Kazakhstan. No screen saver shots. The 2 string instrument is Kobyz or Qobyz. It’s a very ancient Kazakh instrument. Carries a very haunting sound.

The qobyz is a very old two stringed Kazakh folk instrument and it’s spread among Kazakhs. The man who is playing the qobyz in Dimash’s performances is the best on this instrument and a very good friend of Dimash. His name is Olzhas Qurmanbek. You often can hear this instrument when Dimash sings in his native tongue like Samaltau, Qairan Elim or ÒmirÒter and at the stage performance in Stranger. The imagery you see is all Kazakhstan. Normally there are no vocal acrobatics in his native songs and I love them a lot. In every of this songs you can hear the great love and devotion to his country and his people. The emotions that he conveys, the love for music, which can not only be recognized by his vocal range, often falls by the wayside. You can literally feel the love he puts into his Kazakh songs and it's so contagious that you have to love his country too without ever having been there. He's just a great artist, not just a singer. Unfortunately, at the beginning of the video there is only the German translation, as the Dimash Fanclub Germany seems to be the only fan club that translated it. However, I discovered a separate video in which the intro was also translated into English. If you're interested in the translation Intro: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXbdp6SCnNd6f8Usi=KJi0v_qNXRX5QikH Qairan Elim means Holy Land and is a prayer and an expression of fear about the fate of Dimash's country and the world in general. This song was written during the covid pandemic and because of that a lot of Kazakh died. The MV is fantastic and he even directed it. The man, Renat Gaissin (a Kazakh composer) on the piano is also a friend of his and he has also written songs for Dimash such as River Of Love, an instrumental in which Dimash plays the dombra, and the song Òmir Òter (Ode to Life). This mv was presented of the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s independence. Also a must see but switch on the subtitles. A masterpiece. Goosebumps! He has sung this song in many of his concerts. It was always an incredibly great experience. Unfortunately it was no longer in his repertoire in recent concerts. I sincerely hope he takes it up again. Qairan Elim: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gWWYopeIdq6Kl68 And an absolutely mind blowing bonus, if you think the qobyz (a very old but awesome Kazakh two-stringed instrument) sounds so incredibly beautiful and unique then there is a video on yt showing rehearsals for his Almaty concert in September 2022 on Qairan Elim. Olzhas Qurmanbek, who always plays the qobyz in Dimashs‘ songs, wasn‘t there or not yet there. Then Dimash sang the sounds of the qobyz himself. It took me a while to realize that this isn’t an instrument at all, it's Dimash‘s voice. At first I couldn’t believe it, but then I thought, Ok, it’s Dimash😄. Why am I wondering🤔😄? kzbin.info/www/bejne/oXKZnZmdhZhgmNE Intro: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXbdp6SCnNd6f8Usi=KJi0v_qNXRX5QikH Greetings and love from Germany👋❤️

This beautiful video was filmed in Dimash’s homeland of Kazakhstan. The instrument is one of Kazakhstan’s traditional instruments called a Qobyz. It is featured heavily in Stranger as well. I read at one time that the opening scene was from a movie made about the history of Kazakhstan and included the voice of a very famous Kazakh narrator. This was one of the first videos I had seen of Dimash (I had prior to this video only watched live performances) and it was this video that made me go back to watch earlier videos. Powerful and beautifully delicate at the same time. It showcases Dimash’s pride and immensely respectful appreciation of his homeland. Made me look up more about Kazakhstan. I was lucky enough to meet a young lady from Kazakhstan who has also enriched my exposure to the country (and my magnet collection too!). I am happy to have watched your reaction. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦!

Kobyz is an ancient tool of the peoples who lived in the East, including nomads. It was used in ancient times by steppe shamans-healers for various rites. Kobyzy is made from a single piece of wood. This is one of the oldest ways of making musical instruments in the history of mankind. It is not due to technical backwardness or the lack of metal devices. According to the ancient beliefs of many peoples, only in a single piece will the living singing soul of the tree remain, which will sound in the instrument. The open body and strings of the kobyz from a bunch of 30-60 untwisted horse hair give a very thick, overtone-rich timbre.

Thank you for the lovely response. Dimash sings in his native language about his homeland, his Kazakh songs are all very touching and have a deeper meaning. It's definitely worth listening to them all. For example Samaltau, Daididau, Omir Oter and Omir and others. He uses classical Kazakh instruments such as Dombra and Qobyz in these songs. Personally, I find it very interesting to listen to a different culture musically. Over time, you will realize that Dimash offers an enormous musical diversity across different cultures, languages, and genres. I also like how different he sounds depending on which language he sings in. Dimash in Chinese (Mandarin) sounds completely different than in Russian or English. But a lot of emotions come through his mother tongue. Ultimately, however, the language is not decisive, as he conveys the emotions through his voice and music, and you understand it. The speaker at the beginning is not Dimash, he is listed by name in the information below the video. The opening sequence is actually from a film, I think it's from the Kazakh historical film “Tomiris”. The composer of “Quairan Elim” Renat Gaissin also made the music for this film. In any case, there is a special thank-you below the video for allowing this other film material to be used. Renat Gaissin is the piano player in this music video. The footage in the video is of course all from Kazakhstan, and these places are also visited by tourists. Dimash is regarded as his country's most important cultural ambassador and has ensured that tourist numbers are on the rise. At his two concerts in Astana in September, there were once again many foreign guests from all over the world.

The song is called «OH, MY SACRED LAND» («QAIRAN ELIM»). Dimash sings in Kazakh. The song is dedicated not only to Dimash's homeland - Kazakhstan, but also to the entire planet Earth. Earth is the birthplace of all humanity. The ancient Kazakh instrument KOBYS has two strings and makes mystical sounds. When Dimash "burns" it means that his soul can "burn" for the sake of the Motherland. Blood runs, it means that you can shed blood for the Motherland. When a pianist dies, it means that only death can make a real musician stop making music. It's an allegory. Filming took place in Kazakhstan. THIS SONG IS PRAYER! Prayer for our land, for the people, for our children: "The universe, help humanity!". /// Before the song, the older narrator (but it's not Dimash's voice) speaks: «The Great Steppe! Ek loof jou genade lande. I praise your vast expanses from Altai to Atyrau, from Yayi to Ili, from Alatau to Saryarka. They are silent witnesses to my happy times. I praise the Great Steppe, the cradle of the mighty Turkic world. Hey, silent world! Don't be silent, holding your breath. There are descendants behind you. Nothing stopped them in times of severe litigation and contractions. The Great Steppe has generous masters who have not broken down or exhausted before the dodgy temper of the fickle world. Their hearts are magnanimous and the souls are noble. They have a patron, about whom no stranger and whom no stranger feels».

I felt like it was really tragic when Renat fell into the water and died. It reminded me somehow of Schindler's List, partially because of the monochrome film technique, but I think also because Renat died, the piano (& Dimash!) being on fire, etc. Genius!

I read that Dimash was filming this scene and spontaneously instructed Renat to fall into the water; the composer unhesitatingly complied.❤

these are NOT gladiators,,,,,,,,, but Kazakh warriors , as well as Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Turkistan, etc., also have a warrior past in their long history... ( at the beginning of this video... warriors on horseback)

. . . if a German would sing a song with this lyrics in Germany, he would go to jail. In Germany it´s not allowed to say something positive about your country, because that makes the millions of refugees angry!
