Might I suggest looking into decluttering? You have a lot of stuff. That contributed to me always rearranging and being kind of manic and anxious in my space. I feel so much more relaxed now that everything has a place and things that were taking up space are gone. 👍🏽

It is so nice of Bennett to allow you to be featured in his vlogs. I am generally pro high bed because I am a New Yorker and I have one and I couldn’t give up the storage underneath, but your place really does look so much brighter and lighter without it. Great job!

From an interior design professional: get rid of the reading chair, hang the weird black frames on the wall (the higher up you decorate the taller and more open a space looks) Sell both of the bar stools. Move the longest dresser to the side of the bed closest to the front door, and the shorter one on the other side (will allow for more walking space when you enter). Declutter declutter!!!

Just a suggestion: You could also get bed risers that will lift your bed up a little bit and give you more storage underneath.
@Ann-cx3dd Жыл бұрын
My two cents: * I'd put a little space between the foot of the bed & the couch to create a small walk space ( if you get tired of walking around things ). * I'd put your reading chair next to the window ( instead of the mirror ) to create a sunny reading nook..... also a great place to journal, talk on the phone, flip through a magazine, etc. Be really good in the winter when you are really needing more time with light. * I'd try to either combine or get rid of one of the dressers ( the smaller one ). Or, get rid of both and get a dresser from Ikea that is tall, but has lots of drawers - - that way you are using vertical space and will free up floor space. * I'd also put up a more substantial shade or curtain next to the bed for more privacy ( & nice when you want to sleep in ). You never know who might be trying to look in from across the bldgs - - I always lived alone, so know how that feels to need to create privacy from neighbors ). * These are just some fun suggestions...... it's your space & do what makes you the HAPPIEST! : ) : ) : )
@emilyseifriz4601 Жыл бұрын
I also live in a studio apartment and while I could definitely see the utility of the Ikea bed I definitely agree with your decision to change it! It really opens up the space more. Plus re-doing your apartment is a way to make your place feel new and exciting without having to move. I've been in the same studio for three years! You learn over time what works better for the space.

Have you tried reversing or flipping the way you use the room? Have you tried the bed on the wall to the right of the fireplace . creating your bedroom there. Turning the couch around with the back of it facing the fireplace floating as you have it now in the middle of the room. Now you have some open space in front of the fireplace. Maybe a small round table and 4 chairs could be place there for eating and working on. Cute round rug under the table. Putting your TV on one of your white dressers facing the couch (and now your bed too)…..you now have ALL that wall space to use. Still using bookcases all around your dresser that now has the tv on it . creating a bridge with a long shelf connecting the two bookcases together that are on either side of the dresser with the tv on it. Now you have a place ( that bridging shelf) for interesting stuff like maybe a huge cool looking ceramic vessel with tall tree branches in it. Could put mini lights in the branches for a nice nighttime glow. Now again with the bookcases, there’s a home for your stuff such as your printer etc.your piano closest to the window on that same wall with all your pictures GROUPED together over the piano going up as high with them as the bookcases to create a gallery . You getting the vision I’m trying to create? 😊

Alexis, I agree with the person that said to put the cube unit on top of the long dresser, against the wall and you'll have more floor space. Also if you like to move things around a lot, get some furniture sliders, you can get them at most stores, they make it so much easier to move furniture. You just slip them under the furniture corners, legs, and just push it across the floor. There are ones for carpet and ones for plain floors. Also with the boxes you put on top of the closet, get some type of peel and stick wall papers and put it on the end of the containers, it could be a "picture" type thing.
@klouisedraws Жыл бұрын
My other 2 cents would be to take the tv off the wall and keep it on top of your little brown and white storage cabinet on the other side of the apartment like where your bed is and then put the bed under the window where your keyboard is. I’m someone who is just obsessed with trying every possible way but I am soooo happy that you are loving your new set up. I’m totally invested lol

I liked the idea of the platform bed for space and storage - though you should have access to the dressers from the right side and end of the bed - so you could have the headboard on the wall it is now - though agree it should be lower profile dressers they would have worked better and then it would not have blocked your window and been to high - also you could have had a smaller side table beside the window. Am loving all the light! Bennet will adjust as cats don’t like change. Either way I am really glad you laid the last of xxxx to rest. The point is also for you to love your space ❤ and ofc girls can do anything and as Natalee from designed to the nines channel says “you are more powerful than you know” ❤🎉😊

Love that dark golden brownish blanket on your bed! Instead of so many wide dressers, maybe go for a taller dresser so it takes up less floor space but you still maintain storage? Also maybe get rid of the reading chair and buy some containers that can fit under the bed so you can have hidden storage and more open floor space

One of the things I love to do is rearrange my furniture and as a military wife I have had to work with all kinds of spaces. You did a beautiful job and this is not a “but” but remember to use your vertical space. Thinking outside the box, in your next refresh try stacking the unit with the cubbies on top of your long dresser, preferably with them along the wall. Place some nonskid padding between the two furniture pieces, I have used the nonskid rug pads before, this will keep them from moving and scratching each other. You gain floor space and get major height dimensions from this setup. Can’t wait till the next time

The space looks far more useable and much bigger without the giant bed. I've found in my tiny one bedroom that having a single curtain panel over the kitchen entry ups the cozy factor a ton, and for you I think it might even make your filming angles better. And, you could try the stool beside the couch as a side table/plant stand maybe? Thanks for the inspiration!

Tetris is a great metaphor LOL. I think many of us LOVE looking at the spaces of others and playing with the pieces in our minds. It's relaxing and much easier than wrangling our own spaces, because we have attachments, you know? I adore what you did! Such a better arrangement, and yes, I didn't want to say it but I hated the bed too--sayonara! And that table. Yep lol. Thank you! I know you didn't do it for us but YAY! I'm happy you love it too, that's the important part! Now here is the game. NOT advice, not an opinion, not telling you what to do, just a fun fantasy game for all us commenters: "rearrange someone else's space in your mind, for kicks!" Here is Alexis's pad, my version: 1. Coffee cart would go back in kitchen. If it wasn't shallow enough for the corner I'd get a tall shelf that fit. I'd redistribute stuff currently in corner. I'd probably add mounted shelves, fairly high up, over Bennett's food station and I'd buy a folding step stool to keep there, or nearby. I'd put a spice shelf on the end wall of the kitchen, too. I'd get rid of the barstools. 2. Beautiful full length mirror would go where the coffee cart was, so that when you're trying on clothes you can easily check out the look. Bonus: last minute outfit check as you run out the door! On the side of the closet I'd mount two or three hooks--for current fave jacket, tote bag(s), umbrella etc. 3. Comfy chair would replace cat tree, both to form a conversational group with couch, and also useful for staging clothes to try on so they don't get dropped on the floor. I'd put a floor lamp behind it to make it double up as a reading nook. 4. Cubby unit would go by desk under left front window. I think it has desk/work stuff in it anyway right? Then piano in current spot. Cool b/w framed photos/art would go on the wall above it (or maybe on the wall in the bathroom.) Cat tree might squeeze in that sequence somewhere, or it might fit by the right window (so Bennett can see/hear more activity--cats love windows after all.) Or it could go on the hearth, since he's the heart of the home. 🙂 5. Couch and coffee table stay in the standard position. 6. Bed, as you first had it, facing the fireplace, in front of the right window but leaving some room, not flush against the front wall. Smaller dresser there in the corner, facing the fireplace, becomes a nice nightstand. Maybe a cute little bedside lamp? A plant and a cat bed on the windowsill? 7. Large dresser just to the right of the door as you come in. Keep a dish there for keys and a spot for your purse so you'll never misplace them! The tall bookshelf could go between that and your bed. I might hang a soft gauzy canopy from the ceiling and drape the fabric down the sides of the bed to create a more private, romantic feel for your sleeping space. Putting a rug under/around the bed would help define and separate that space as well. I've had a horrible day and your whole vlog cheered me up immeasurably. I'm so glad you totally took back control of your space, Alexis! I hope you were amused by my imaginings. My mind feels much clearer, lol.

hi, feng shui is not improved, but it all depends on how you feel. new here but i had an idea emmediately which you did not entertain, so here it goes: put pretty new bed in the opposit corner by the fireplace so it is in a command position really. create dining\ working corner with round table in the opposit corner by the window. sofa can than get in the middle with working table or a dresse behind it, see how it feels...use vertical space mote, hang some plants if you like. hope this helps, bbye

The bed concept was a great idea for space saver, but it does take up a lot of room, taking it apart is a good idea, for storage you could do what I do.I went to target and got the white storage boxes with drawers and I store things in them, they fit under my bed and hold a lot! Seeing this while in the middle of my most painful apartment move ever is giving me life. This really is the best (worst bc of weather, lmao) time time to refresh everything! It's like back-to-school season for us as adults too Edit: I also realized I never used my dining table, I always ate at my desk or coffee table anyway and just used the dining table to collect crap. After downsizing I literally don't even miss it! It also sucks to dismantle home projects after only a few months, but sometimes things just don't work out and you won't know until you try. Props to you for not staying with it just because of the time and money you invested in it!

I love your energy…I also love moving my furniture around .I just discovered you and I actually liked your tall bed. What I see…is a lot of wall space you could use. If you can’t go out in the room … go up…meaning “Bookcases” . I see a book case built around your front door on both sides and over the door. Only 8 inches deep…could be Ikea ones fasted together. This would allow for your stuff to have a home. I’d use as much wall space that would be pleasing to the eye as possible. maybe even tall bookcases on either side of your new bed. Go vertical! Keep up your good work. 👍🏻

I keep thinking, that I would create an entrance area by putting up a simple wall between the long side of the bed and the door. Just wide enough so you can move around in your entrance comfortably without seeing the bed right away as soon as you enter the room. It could be made of simple wood panels alternating with spaces in between. You could attach those panels to the back side of the ikea drawer units… you could also put up linen curtains on the right and left side of your „bedroom“ and create even more separation and structure. I LOVE challenges like that ❤

If I had that space, I'd put the bed back to the original location but flip it round so your headboard has the door behind it. Then move both your drawers to sit in front of the headboard and the side wall. This way when you come home, there's a little entrance way with your chests seperating out the space, and you get to wake up and look directly out of the window. Each to their own, it's a fab space!!!

I like the setup and when you are living in a small space you really need to have things that you really need and can be dual functioning. I think a few plants would make the place look cozy, maybe one hanging in front of the windows and maybe one in a pot such as the Snake plant which also purifies the air in the room and is easy to care for. You just want ones that cats do not go after or ones that are not harmful to them in case they do tend to nibble. An aloe plant is also good for the environment. The apartment looks more open and the fact that you can sit in bed and watch T.V. is a nice feature. See you in your next vlog.

I hate to be negative Nellie, but Snake and Aloe plants are poisonous to cats. I just started getting interested in live plants, and I went to a florist. We decided on Money trees, Prayer plants and Rubber plants. All are pretty, easy to care for, and safe foe cats. There are some good sites on the web that will give you a list of the best non-toxic plants.
