Another great video! What LED color combos for engines? Im doing Pegasus 2004 so 8 engine pods. Im thinking a 5mm white flickering & a 3mm blue through clear blue lens parts. 2 led might be to much but?🤔
@InterstellarModelerАй бұрын
@@jcwoodman5285 thanks so much for your kind comments. i think cool white works best for Galactica ship engines. Cool whites give a nice light bluish effect. It looks just like what we saw on on both TOS and reimagined show. Hope that helps

Excellent build on this Moebius Original Series Battlestar Galactica kit! Your inciteful layout of the various syb assembled parts was very informative. Now I'm motivated to get this same kit and duplicate your results. Thanks for the links to the other website so I can order exactly what I need.

If only Moebius had gotten the font correct for the ship names! 9 point Futura Medium comes pretty close to solving the problem, but still needs a few minor kerning adjustments as well as a flattening of the top of the capital A. Correcting that makes the ship look much more like the actual shooting miniature.

Just bought 3 of these Battlestars. Was going to do a diorama of the 5 ships at the opening of the original series. But hobbylinc USA jacked the price up before I could get the other. So might make a cast of 2 ships (Atlantia and Pacifica -fighter bays) destroyed.

WOW! I used to dream of having a detailed model of the Galactica back as a kid in the late 70's and early 80's. I would love to buy this already completed though. My soon to be 50 year old eyes are not the greatest and I'd probably stink at trying to build it myself. LOL

Great final product! This may be a dumb question but I was wondering if all the LEDs are wired in series or parallel? Do you know of any online resources that I could check out for wiring LEDs.
@InterstellarModeler10 жыл бұрын
First, it's not a dumb question, these were wired parallel and all of the LEDs had resistors. Here's a good source for LED basics: www.instructables.com/id/LEDs-for-Beginners/step7/Wiring-up-multiple-LEDs-in-series/ Also check out Modelman Tom's channel. He's got a number of good tutorials. Here's one for you: Tips: Lighting Basics 05A Fiber Optics Lastly, modeltrainsoftware.com also has some resources about LEDs and how to use their products on their site. Hope that helps.

I just broke my enterprise model from the first movie, it was at the section of support of the warp engine meets the main hull, the piece that goes into the main hull. Any ideas on how to fix it?

Very nice build and great set of videos. My Moebius Galactica has been sitting in my build queue since it was released. This gave me some great ideas for my build. You mentioned that you are using the Model Train Software flickering LEDs for the engines. What colors did you use and what size?
@InterstellarModeler10 жыл бұрын
Thanks James. The flickering LEDs are only available in 1 size, 1.8mm. Make sure you get them with the resistors. My power source is a 9V battery and the brightness is just fine for me. Again they are 1.8mm so if you want more brightness you simply may need to add more. I only used 5 total and I think it looks just fine. I purchased the cool white which has a bluish hue. Hope that helps and thanks again for watching.

I'm currently building this kit myself. I'm going to try not to use fiber optics and instead just drill holes and use canopy glue to fill them in. I have found some great reference photos on Pinterest for lighting up the top windows of the head section.
@InterstellarModeler6 жыл бұрын
stevethefishdotnet yes that is exactly what I would do. I’d love to see pics of your model when done. Feel free to email to ismodeler@yahoo

Thanks. I've uploaded a couple of videos on the progress of this kit on my own YT channel so far. I'm using the Paragrafix photoetch set, some resin shuttles from JT Graphics, and a couple of replacement parts from Shapeways.

Turned out well, but some pretty wide gaps there between the pylons and landing pods. For cutting fibers in the trenches, since the area is recessed it seems to me the top and bottom parts could have been painted separately, trim the fibers, then assemble them. Then you have access to the fibers, and the join line is hidden in the trench.
@InterstellarModeler8 жыл бұрын
Yes there are gaps for sure between the pylons and landing pods. I tried my best to squeeze those parts together but to no avail. As for the fibers...those are all great hints. This was definitely a learning experience.

My biggest problem at the time with the old kit was how small it was, And while the Moebius kit is more accurate, I'd rather it be way bigger, Say somewhere around 25-30 inches.
@InterstellarModeler3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Yeah wish it was larger too
@Spindrift-id1ez3 жыл бұрын
@@InterstellarModeler Well at least it's not as bad as Moebius's Spindrift model. Still don't understand why Moebius choose to insult us Irwin Allen fans with that dinky thing. It's like I kinda understand them not wanting to do a Spindrift in the large 1/32 scale like the Flying sub, , Though I would buy it, , But they could of at least done it in say 1/48 scale. That would have been a nice size over the original Aurora kit

Better than Monogram's kit but you still get the feeling it would look even better bigger. Did I read online correctly this is STILL just barely over a foot long? It looks better than the Monogram and has more detail but it still seems small. The Millennium Falcon actually works at the size Bandai released for the 1/144 scale but the Galactica even here "feels" small to me. I think twice this size would work better, even half-studio scale would better but I know why they released it at this size ($$$). Your lighting was nice but I think I read other people (including Trekworks when he did his build) used canopy glue for the lights. I was kind of wondering how the fiber optics would work out. I think those work better for larger model kits
@InterstellarModeler6 жыл бұрын
AvengerII I agree. I wished it was larger as well. As for the fiber optics, it seemed a logical choice at the time and it was something I really wanted to try. If I were to build this today, however, I would also use canopy glue. The one thing that doesn’t look right are the areas where the fiber couldn’t be trimmed close enough to the ship leaving small nubs protruding from the hull.
@AvengerII5 жыл бұрын
@@InterstellarModeler Well, you have your mini Battlestar fleet. The older model could always be repurposed as another ship, either the Pegasus or one of the ships destroyed in the original Battlestar pilot. I watched the entire Galactica pilot for the first time not long ago. I had seen the theatrical cut (which I did see in theaters in the late 1970s) several times over the years but never the broadcast version. The broadcast version is slightly better but I was struck by the fact it was a TV series pilot and it looked more like a feature film! There are not many TV series, let alone pilot episodes, that are like that. Galactica was definitely better than Buck Rogers or Knight Rider...
@InterstellarModeler5 жыл бұрын
@@AvengerII Yes I agree. You can tell they put a lot of effort into making the pilot. I believe it was not supposed to be a series initially but rather one of several made for TV movies. It obviously was changed to a series format after the airing of the pilot. Never was a huge fan of BRogers although I loved the starfighter.
