It's cooler when a rapper writes their own lyrics, but it's become an industry lie that a ton of people write their own lyrics. Kanye also is known to give credit for the most tiny of influences. Jay hasn't impacted rap as much as Kanye has, Jay for about 6 years has been imitating Ye on many fronts. Kanye also has his own successful fashion line. Kanye is the better artist, and Jay-Z is the better lyricist.
