“A part is never modified unless it makes the whole better” That’s systems thinking 💡

Interesting, and I keep being impressed with the importance of systems thinking is an emerging approach to problem-solving. It's given me a lot to think about, but in the spirit of not hijacking the comments for my own agenda, I will only say that monetization (and with this, marketing, user access limitation, and expense reduction to the producer) is a force that is central to a lot of the design I deal with, so much so that it seems more pivotal than the user-based or system improvement ideas. Thank you for the time and energy you all have put into what I hope will become a profound part of the solutions we all need moving forward.

good point, and systems thinking should help to bring those two seemingly opposed aspects together.

“Our job is not to control and specify everything, but more to create the conditions for our desired outcomes to emerge.” I don’t know if there exists a stable solution. I do know that there exists a structure of organization that enables us to constantly and adaptively creates solutions and analyze trade offs. Our job is to ascend the gradient of possible structures to optimize solution production, I believe.

An interesting premise that sadly descends into buzzword salad from about 6-7 minutes. Our largest systems, like our economic system or social structures are not designed, they are emergent phenomena. The last part tries to acknowledge this and offer a way forward by asking us to keep the wider consequences in mind in our design decisions. But there's no examination of the incentives that lead designers to ignore those considerations.
