We are so lucky to have Danny. He is a Southern California treasure and a blessing to the whole world.

I got to see Oingo Boingo in concert many years ago, and it felt like they rushed through the songs. Hearing Danny say he got bored with playing the same songs over and over makes total sense, I'd feel the same exact way. What a hugely talented, humble guy!

It's fantastic to hear Danny remember the early Boingo gigs at the Whiskey, when they were still pretty underground and played a lot of amazing experimental stuff that never made it to their records.

Man, he makes me feel a LOT better about not being that fluent on the piano, but still trying to compose.
@MrKenneffdupriest4 жыл бұрын
right?
@FreakieFan4 жыл бұрын
It is very common for a lot of composers to not be virtuosic instrumentalists. Decent yes, but fluent? You don't have to be if you want to be a composer!

Lol@ the 'who's this Steve Bartek guy' guy; Im pretty sure he knew who he was and that was meant to be a gotcha question, and by Elfman's lengthy bases-covering response, he probably figured it out too. Since we live in the "Why does Zimmer not credit his helpers" era (not saying he doesn't but because of the way he works now every other composer is meant to 'explain' themselves), that question was a bit on the nose.
@WeezaY50006 жыл бұрын
Two years too late, but Steve Bartek was a member of Danny Elfman's New Wave band Oingo Boingo, which is one of my favorites, and that I still listen to. Furthermore, Steve Bartek was the one who helped and pushed Elfman to start scoring movies, so yeah, a pretty big influence in Elfman's music making.

Danny adapted Herrmann's score for the remake of Psycho. I spose that doesn't count though. Although he did score Red Dragon and that's very intense, almost to the extent of, horror movie music.

This video is interesting because you can hear his voice slipping between the younger voice and the more lower more bassy one he has now.

Romantic comedies don't even need a score, just throw a bunch of pop songs together and you're done.

Laughing already at the weird, almost comedic cut to Danny @ 1:31 , only to have it cut back to the interviewer as Danny is actually giving his answer.

Yes. A Mystic Knight of the Oingo Boingo circus troupe of Paris and The Gong Show. Which I learned recently. Makes sense. Explains everything I've always wondered. The Knights won the Gong Show that night, of course they did. 😬
