So glad you gave him the intro he deserves. Danny is such a humble guy.

Does anyone agree that Nightmare Before Christmas should have resulted in an Oscar nomination (win) for Danny Elfman?

I saw Danny play in Chula Vista last week. Loved him since i was 15 in the early 80's. He played a mix of Oingo songs, symphony movie soundtracks, singing as Jack Skelington, and his new stuff from Big Mess. Made for a discordant show. New stuff got me doing some research. Glad i found this interview. It was definitely metal. But definitely in Danny's style. He used the symphony and chorus in those hard songs. They actually made things harder surprisingly. He had a rock style band up front. The symphony filled in all the space between the guitars. Powerful wall of sound. He had the rock drummer with a full kit. Plus 2 symphony style percussionists. Complete with big japanese tycho drums. Damn, felt like i was getting punched all over. He packed in the music. Blasted thru 23 songs. Only talked to intro the band, recognize and thank the symphony and chorus and intro Steve Bartoc to play guitar on dead man's party. Stepped off for maybe 3 minutes. Then played hard rocking version of Who Do You Want to Be and No One Lives Forever as the encore. Then done. Great intense show. He managed to include so much of his different music and pulled it off.

I loved his shoutout to Andy Partridge's struggles and retirement from touring. XTC and Boingo are two of my favorites.

Omg I LOVE Danny. I’m still HOPING Oingo Boingo tours again before I die. The BEST part of the 80’s was seeing OB live so many times. I beg them to tour again and make all the last few years worth it.

Danny's always been in great shape. Go back and watch old Oingo Boingo concerts from the 80s. He was fond of wearing wife-beaters back then. I mean, he wasn't covered in tattoos and he wasn't ripped, but he's always been a big, strong guy. He was never scrawny, that I'm aware of. He started boxing (training, not actually fighting) in the 90s...

Saw Danny at the Hollywood Bowl right before Halloween and his performance was fantastic. He is a true maestro of all that is music. I always regretted not going to a Dead Man's Party live concert when I was in high school, but he was everything that I thought he would be when I saw him at the Bowl. He KICKED ASS. Greatest modern day composers...Hans Zimmer, John Williams.....Danny Elfman is Master of all. Hope you continue to do live music - you have absolutely NOTHING to worry about. Rock, Metal and film score all together in one concert was great!

I think movie scores are a waste of his talent (unless it’s a musical movie where he does the lyrics and has a singing role like Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride)
@Amy.B2 жыл бұрын
Listen to Nightbreed, Darkman, Midnight Run, The Frighteners, Men in Black, Instinct, Extreme Measures, Red Dragon, Big Fish, Black Beauty, and Sleepy Hollow, those might change your mind. Plus scores for films are very important especially if it's orchestral.
