WOW man, I've watched 20-30 reactions to this video (obsessed, i know haha) and I gotta say your reaction is my favorite because you delve into the lyrics and talk about the rollercoaster of emotions in the song and how it relates to addiction. Other people stop the song and talk about 1 or 2 lines but you examine the song as a whole and you brought up points i never thought of. Well done Sir :D

but he didn't get the content of the lyrics at all though -- ronnie wrote the song while looking in a mirror in prison, the song is about himself.

The funny thing is that the song is about his "relationship" with actual drugs. And also going to jail. However it could certainly be about a relationship with a person too, if that's how a person chooses to interpret it. It definitely fits some relationships out there. The girl in the video is supposed to be a metaphor for the drugs. Attractive and what not. But also messy. And in the end when she's on fire it's supposed to represent that he burned the habit, so to speak. And also represents attained warmth in getting rid of the coldness that drugs and jail made him feel. Also it's called reimagined instead of you because it's a reimagining of a song off their debut album called The Drug In Me Is You. Which has a far more upbeat tune to it. It recently went gold so he made this reimagined version of it as a special gift for his fans.
@personealuv93424 жыл бұрын
Another reason he reintroduced the song is because he’s on tour for the 10 year anniversary of the album
@j3w3lsi394 жыл бұрын
I'm more inclined to think it's about his relationship with Max Green and the addiction felt not just to the drugs but to the friend he thought would be in his life forever.

“The Drug In Me Is You” is about his drug abuse and jail but “The Drug in me is Reimagined” is saying that he doesn’t need drugs anymore since he’s been sober for a few years now which is amazing and we are all proud of him. You should reacted to the first and then the new it would’ve hit more but all in all he is an amazing musician and totally underrated in his genre.

Pretty sure I read they named it that as it was about self-reflection and him being his own worst enemy. Like him singing it to mirror. Possible he has said something different since I read that interview though as that was back then, not now.

The song is actually THE DRUG IN ME IS YOU - REIMAGINED (because it is a remake of their song THE DRUG IN ME IS YOU from 10 years ago, word for word, note for note). Even the piano-solo is note for note the same as the guitar-solo of the original song.
@MrJeepforce4 жыл бұрын
It's a remake the original song they wrote years ago was "The drug in me is you" and it's a lot faster and heavier and in my opinion not as a serious take of the new version. This version had more power and soul...... It is a beautiful darkness.... Gets you right in the feels

I’m glad I stumbled upon this reaction of one of my current favorite songs. You had an exceptionally intelligent and articulate understanding and comprehension of this song. I could be wrong but with his addiction history, it is my understanding that this song IS about drugs, not truly about a person... a person being metaphorical in this? Normally it really bothers me when a reactor speaks over lyrics, just imho that it doesn’t respect the music or artist but the fact that you still got so much out of it, made it ok for me. Plus what you commented during the song was musically pertinent and helpful. I’m so glad that you caught how the end was so passionate; most don’t seem to catch that beauty. You should watch the first “the drug in me is you”. It was written 10 years ago and shows Ronnie’s growth and maturity between the two versions of the same song. Then you’ll “get” why it’s reimagined. I’m going to subscribe and see what else you’ve got! Thanks for the great content!

That in depth analysis about tension/addiction just gained you a new sub. I knew the song revolved around his drug abuse and that the girl represented the drug which he finally burns at the end of the video which is kind of saying "we're done" which ties in nicely with your analysis of the tension that's finally released in this explosion at the end. I've recently become a fan and have had to read up a lot on Ronnie to fully try to understand the context of the songs (the trilogy videos of Loosing my mind, Loosing my life and Drugs is also really packed with references which are easier to pick up on when you know the context) I'd recommend you watch those 3 videos, even if it's offline, in that specific order as they're connected. There are basically 2 videos going on at the same time, one where a story of his 2 personalities and one where the actual performance of music takes place. Have a good one!
@rog22243 жыл бұрын
The thing that's killer for me, is the part "And now, I've lost my fucking mind" et seq. It's uninflected - there's no anger; there's barely regret; it borders on a bald statement of fact, as the last vestiges of control snap... The only time you encounter that sort of uninflected use of what is, by all accounts in context, a pretty brutal word, is just before there's an unleashing of violence that no sane person wants to be near. The transition into the last part is as good an aural and visual allegory of what happens after that... it wants to burn the world, and all in it.

It's not really him blaming a specific person as it is him blaming society for the way he is. He's haunted by his past and is lost in his own thoughts. He has no place to go and no one to turn to. He's beyond the point of no return and will go down an endless spiral till the time comes where he loses his mind. His drug is guilt and shame, the type of emotions that hold him down. This song is about escaping the darkness of your own genocidal hell and finding the silver lining within himself. At least, that's what I gathered.
