From the perspective of someone who has been a fan of TTDTE for a long time I will say this: this band was particularly influential in this specific genre. Some of the tricks they're using in this song are stereotypical of mathcore now, but were pretty cutting edge when this was released. The album after this (Danza IIII) is a masterpiece imo. It has a lot of heart and breaks away from all the dissonance and the almost atonality of danza III.

I love me some good ol fashioned mathcore. Their 4th album is gnarly, especially their track "the alpha the omega" with one of the dudes from Despised Icon and Phil Bozeman. I feel like their composition got better too on that album. If you're interested in checking out more of them I'd definitely recommend it

Had no idea what I was voting for when I voted for this but just couldn't resist with that band name and song title. I'm not super into this genre either but when I am occasionally in the mood for something like this, this would hit the spot. Favorite part are the dissonant guitar lines; I actually with there was more of them and more variety to them. And appreciate the commitment to total brutality. I actually really like Veil of Maya's Eclipse album which to me has a similar sound to this but has more interesting and melodic guitar lines. P.S. Looking forward to hearing you say "Random Rumble!" 4 more times this week.

This band was fairly groundbreaking in the use of none of what the normal music appreciator looks for. Using dissonance, approaching everything as percussive and not melodic and tossing an extra beat or two in the measure, or jumping back to the 1 early. When I found this, I was stuck on the For The Fallen Dreams kind of hardcore and these guys absolutely blew me away. Huge influence in my writing and approach to song structure and overall tone. I wish I could have experienced them live cause the videos I have seen of their shows were absolute carnage. 45/10, best band there’s ever been. 🤘

I liked this more than I thought reading the comments, but I definitely should check more stuff to be sure if I'd like this band or not. My favourite part of the track had to be in the middle section (a brief, thundering section after one of the many fake outs). "Okay but where's the bar start? What time signature are we in?" That's Mathcore Babyyyy~ 😎😎😎 This is one of my personal favorite tracks from this band & one of my favorite Mathcore albums that I own a physical copy of lol This album: 'Danza 3' & the album 'Danza 4' feature the great Josh Travis on 8/9-string guitar & production. (Their first 2 albums before he joined are a LOT more raw). If you want to try something similar to Danza in heaviness but with some of the dissonance replaced with "pretty melodic ideas" & clean vocals check out his old Metalcore/Deathcore band Glass Cloud with Jerry Roush from Sky Eats Airplane. You'd probably dig the song 'White Flag' & a few other tracks off their first album more than their 2nd (he was writing riffs for both 'Danza 4' & that one around the same time haha). He's also currently a member of the Deathcore band Emmure (on the most recent 2 albums) & has some solo material released as well as a few collabs with Berried Alive (the ex-guitarist of the band Reflections solo project) after those bands broke up.

TTDTE is definitely an acquired taste. I admit to not liking them first few listens, but eventually it grew on me and definitely enjoy it. But it is a mood listen; having a bad day or need some energy, then they are good for that. Also, as others have said, Danza 4 (their last album before they broke up) is their most mature album. For those willing to give them another shot, listen to that album. Having seen Joshua Travis play live, I still can't believe the riffs he lays down. Seems impossible or completely made up on a computer.

Love me some Tony Danza, to me, this kind of chaotic hardcore is best enjoyed as a reflection of the rejection of order one has when experiencing extreme emotions on the negative end of the scale, specifically anger. Its not supposed to be “enjoyable” in the sense of being satisfying, appeasing or even necessarily “good”, it is the tantrum of music if you will, disillusion in audio format, and I think it requires either the right moment or an unhealthy dose of metal “tolerance” if you will, to enjoy, so I also completely understand why people wouldnt like it.

I've heard every album by Periphery. The first song I ever heard from them was The Walk and it sold me on them. I snagged that first album and have kept up with their releases ever since. Strong Dillinger Escape Plan vibes on this one. DEP themselves are one of those bands I find fascinating but exhausting, and this strikes me as similar. I like and appreciate a lot of the creative ideas, especially in terms of that off-kilter riffing, but it's all a bit too much. It's funny that there's plenty of metal that's almost entirely rhythmic and dissonant that I love--Ulcerate and Deathspell Omega come to mind--but I think when you combine that with this hardcore screaming it just doesn't work as well, maybe because the other bands do more with texture, even if it's rather minimal. Meshuggah gets away with it just because they basically invented the style and I still think they're more rhythmically interesting than most bands that really mess with time. So this isn't really for me either.
@CriticalReactions
