It was -(4x+1) which is equivalent to -1(4x+1) = -4x - 1

I noticed when you rewrote the problem at 7:44 , you had changed the sign (in the second set of parentheses) to a negative and subtracted instead of added them. It was supposed to read (4x+1) +5 and you wrote (4x-1)+5

He multiplied the negatives in both numbers so -(4x+1) = (-*4x)+(-*1)=-4x-1

You square -6 before subtracting. 5-(-6)^2=5-36=-31

He combined like terms. 8x minus 4x became 4x and 4 plus 1 became 5.

5-(-6)^2 does not equal to -31...because negative 6 becomes a positive 36 therefor it is equal to 41

The -6^2 is done first, so you get positive 36. Then you do the subtraction. 5 - 36 is -31.
