Compost turner - Built ourselves

Built our own compost turner. First time turning the blades. Just amazing that it all worked so well. Think we will call it Scarab. Now need to make a name plate. Very happy to share build details and advice. It was a lot of welding.

Very well built! I am planning to build something similar for a small farm. A few small changes will probably make your prototype into a beast. Given your success: Maybe make the tines a bit shorter (easier to spin balance the assembly) Maybe allow finely tuned adjustment of the tines to cut the existing soil-level plane (if you're composting on a bed of clay, subsoil, sand, whatever)

Shorten the blades and make them straight it looks like you have them at an angle. Make sure they are sharp. I like this idea

If you built a couple of walls to deflect it to a narrower winrow for next time, also steeper sides would let more aerobics take place.

This was going to be my exact comment. Let your deflector in the back go down the sides to shape the bed. Also a shield on both sides as not to lose material

Interesting compost turner. Riding the clutch for that period of time will make you real good at replacing clutches. One should never, ever ride the clutch.

I now have a small tractor with a creeper gear .. it doesn’t need that much power just needs to go slow

Not necessary to build such a turner if it is for small plots. Suggest you follow the Johnson Su bioreactor if you have time to wait like 12 months. The aeration can be achieved and no till or churning is required.
