Thank you. “Experts” say a flute player does not need compression. In playing live with other (I.e., loud) instruments I find it a must. It is needed to hear the low and not hear too much of the high notes. The sound person consistently turns my flute down when playing in the high register not realizing not all the notes I play are that loud. I could do better to remember to back off when playing in the high register, but compression set correctly would mitigate that need some.

Yes! Totally agree! And when playing solo with a looper, it helps to smooth everything out.
