Super pumped for the housings video! Recently had a shop dick around on me with my housings, so I took em back and decided I'll be doing them myself. So thanks in advance!

The I-Rotary seals have a convex crown on the top of the seal just like a Mazda OEM seal. As the engine runs, the crown will ware away and compression will come up. I'd definitely run a bit more premix. 1-1.2 oz/gallon without an OMP and 2-2.5 oz/gallon without and OMP. Great job Dood!!

Gonna be 2 oz per gallon then. Dannng!!! Almost diesel prices now!!

It's great that you are going to go through a test and evaluation process for the bobbin sander and housings looking forward to seeing that 1.

Have you double checked your results with a mechanical gauge tester? I'm old school and use a piston tester with schrader valve removed to watch the bounces because I don't trust the reliability of these newer electronic units. If they get debris in them, there's no telling how accurate they really are so I trust the mechanical gauges and do the math for altitude correction. Here in west Texas at 2,700 FT about sea level, I regularly see 90+ PSI on my rebuilds non corrected. High 80's to 90's at my elevation on a piston tester is golden.
@RADPotential2 жыл бұрын
I can honestly say I have never used a mechanical tester. I have always just gone by ear on my personal engines. Listening to the pulses. Or borrowed a rotary specific tester.

Question, I'm buying a new complete engine came from knight sport from Japan. Engine compression is 90 psi. Is that a good compression to buy or should I pass on that? Thanks for the great video.

I'll have to ask where he got it. I think Ray Crowe

I believe you can just go directly to your local Mazda dealer. And I think pineapple racing has listings for brand new engines.

I wonder if it's possible to make a chrome insert that you could slide into a machined OEM housing. Much like the aftermarket billet plates that have a face plate insert
@RADPotential2 жыл бұрын
Very possible I'd say.

Id definietly be interested in hot numbers, once the engine runs, and before you take it out again.

Trying to understand the use of the compression tester. Do you remove all the plugs and use the sensor in the leading plug holes to run the test?
@dwolrdcojp2 жыл бұрын
You test one rotor at a time. Pull one spark plug out on the housing and insert the compression tester sensor into that plug. Then turn it over it get your reading. Either spark plug hole works, there is a small difference in reading between leading and trailing.
@EskrimaDeCampoJDCIO2 жыл бұрын
@@dwolrdcojp thanks for the reply. Do I leave the other plug in the housing being tested or that doesn’t matter?
@dwolrdcojp2 жыл бұрын
@@EskrimaDeCampoJDCIO Yes you leave it in because otherwise you're giving a way for the compressed air to escape which is not what you want during a compression test :)
@rotaryperfection2 жыл бұрын
I always leave all upper plugs out during my test. This way you get max cranking rpm for each housing I put the tester on. Also allows me to listen to the other housings while it turns over for even compression pulses.

Great videos... perfect timing for what I'm doing on my FD! Really answers a lot of questions. Thanks for the work... I don't think it's gonna pay out for you since it's such a specialty interest... for that reason you won't get many views and since you don't run a shop for dinosaur rotor-heads I doubt you'll get much business either. You're just a kid at 25 years old so it makes me wonder why you're doing all this. You don't look like you have much money... it's odd... I love that you're doing it as it's a hobby for me but I'm not sure it's ever gonna be worth your time. Might have to find a better hook, bro. Truth is, I don't even think Dahm makes much money on his channel, sadly. Love his channel too... but yours is much more practical and more educational. So... thanks again for your charity work, I guess?

So resurfacing the rotor housings was kind of like decking a piston engine. I was hoping for something about re-chroming the housings. I guess not an option as nobody does it.

im not 100 percent sure but when holding the throttle open while turning it over was to bypass the fuel injection or something dont take my word for it
@TheGreatDadoo2 жыл бұрын
you're supposed to disconnect the fuel pump fuse before you crank it over for the test so yeah, maybe he didn't do that? He shoulda
@RADPotential2 жыл бұрын
On an 89 and newer rx7 and rx8, holding 100 percent throttle while cranking shuts off the injectors. A lot of the cars I compression test have carburetors so there isn't a way to kill all fuel, and I haven't noticed any erroneous results from that condition. If you notice in the video for this test, I cranked the car with the injectors on to help wash down the assembly lube and grease from the rotors. The compression dropped from 100ish to 85 ish thru the course of that happening and stabilized. Always be weary, a brand new engine with a lot of assembly lube and grease will have high numbers until it starts the first time
@TheGreatDadoo2 жыл бұрын
@@RADPotential I did not know that! Thanks again, man!
