Great job. Any tips on getting the old gaskets off? It takes me forever to get them off.

Keith Mylum there’s a few ways. I use a chisel as a scraper. You can use razor blades , knife etc. I’ve seen wire wheels used in a drill etc

As the son of an auto mechanic, I know of just the thing for that purpose. My dad uses 3M's TR 07481 2" Medium surface conditioning discs in a 1/4" right angle air die grinder to remove stubborn gasket debris and RTV silicone from the transmission oil pan when he's changing filters. I'm sure if it's good enough for that, it'll work just fine on pretty much any surface a gasket has to seal against, unless it's an MLS gasket as used for car head gaskets these days (in that case, stick with the scraper). Here's the discs on Amazon (25 pack): www.amazon.com/Scotch-Brite-07481-Aluminum-Surface-Conditioning/dp/B0002STR8Q Here's the holder you'll need to chuck it in a drill or die grinder: www.amazon.com/3M-05539-Roloc-Disc-Assembly/dp/B000FW4LC6

That tip with the oil on the gaskets is awesome. Had a compressor like that not to long ago we were replacing and we couldn’t get to seal so we eventually used so gasket sealer. Wish I would’ve know that, could’ve saved a headache. Love the pro tips

Great vid! Have you ever tried using nylog on the gaskets rather than comp oil to lube the gaskets?
@Cscrefandhvac4 жыл бұрын
Matthew Waxer no I’ve never done that. I’d think that would make a wicked mess and risk getting the nylog into the internals of the compressor . I was always taught to use oil on gaskets

Master with gaskets and new plate because it may be that I send nitrogen for the high and it goes a little for the low. I put the seal together and it does the same thanks I turn off and it does not retain pressure from the wing

Another informative short-but-sweet video Chris. I just want to say how helpful your videos have been and I appreciate your fun-loving positive attitude. I'm in the same boat as Art Barnes as I'm switching over to a fantastic commercial refrigeration company after a lengthy career in residential HVAC. What advice could you give mechanics like us? Thanks man, and take care!
@Cscrefandhvac4 жыл бұрын
Landon Brass thanks man I really appreciate that. . Umm I’d say just work like you always work . I’d say commercial could possibly be more stressful at times and depending on the on call schedule be ready to work late nights or long hours sometimes

On a compressor like this when you close the king valve on the receiver shouldn’t the compressor pump down. If it doesn’t something would defiantly be wrong?

Nice instructional vid , Chris , very good 👍 2 questions : _ how do you scrape off the old gaskets without damaging the plate surface ? I usually use a screwdriver or a blade to scrape stuff off but it's a bit sketchy _ how do you pull a vaccum on the compressor since it's isolated , the ports on the rotolock valves aren't reading the inside of the compressor , so I wonder , what other port can you use ? Anyway , seems like an intimidating job at 1st , and I'm guessing that it takes doing it a few times to get confident about it . Have a good weekend, Chris , now it's my turn to have trouble with the ol' back 😵 Cheers !
@Cscrefandhvac4 жыл бұрын
Sterling Archer hey brotha ! I use a chisel as a scraper. There are many ways , such as a knife , razor blades , I’ve seen guys use wire wheels in drills. I’m old school so I do it by hand haha I feel the chisel used as a scraper doesn’t do any damage . I pull a vacuum from the fitting on the oil pump in the back of the compressor . There is always a port there on semi hermetics so you can take oil pressure so you can use that to pull a vacuum on an isolated compressor And sorry about the back man. It’s sucks ! Cheers bro 🍺
