Computational thinking will be a fundamental skill used by everyone in the world. To reading, writing, and arithmetic, we should add computational thinking to every child's analytical ability. Computational thinking involves solving problems, designing systems, and understanding human behavior by drawing on the concepts that are fundamental to computer science. Thinking like a computer scientist means more than being able to program a computer. It requires the ability to abstract and thus to think at multiple levels of abstraction. In this keynote address from Asia Faculty Summit 2012, Jeannette Wing, head of the Computer Science Department at Carnegie Mellon University, provides examples of computational thinking, argues that it has already influenced other disciplines, and promotes the idea that teaching computational thinking can not only inspire future generations to enter the field of computer science but benefit people in all fields.

The fact that a human invented a computer, and how they looked in the beginning to how they do now, absolutely blows my mind.

This is great! I study this at University as part of my Degree in computer science. :-) I would like to work on A.I. problems and the digital delivery of educational services.

Can you teach CT? In all my experience as a teacher, I have found students who are good problem solvers and others who are not. The former group did not need to be taught to think computationally. The latter group couldn't be taught to think computationally. I try to persuade the former to take up CS seriously and the latter to steer clear of it.

Personally all types of thinking are the same, understand the problem, look for patterns, break it down into steps or change how you view it. Artists and computer scientists are doing the same thing it's just the awareness of it. A complex painting has a lot of steps to it, as does a long algorithm and it can be hard for both types of people to break it down and understand the details. I believe only by looking at details and patterns can either person be successful. This can be applied to any field, communication, sports, whatever. Like the magic square problem vs the look at the object in reverse or upside point of view, both are ways to solve things. I do think though people naturally can see certain patterns easier than others and those that excel master them because of the time and commitment to study alongside passion.

Computational Thinking is a trait of all good programmers. IMO like art, I don't beleive it can it can be taught to all and sundry.

Is this video still monitored? I'd like to speak to someone at Microsoft about a solution to some of the concepts that Ms. Wing states. I've written a Language Standard and Register for LLM and AI interactions. STLAI-001 PROMPT ENGINEERING MANUAL AND PROMPT DICTIONARY You can use the manual and dictionary to implement Computational Thinking on a daily basis and for all Professions. I emailed Ms. Wing, but no response yet. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

5 minutes in and she is explaining what a computers is. the people watching this on computers are bored to death. shorten computational thinking to "comp think" so you're not running all over your words. i don't need to know youre a black belt or your background. get to the point. you constantly run in circles explaining nothing

This is Jeanette Wing who co-wrote papers with Liskov. Probably a little too intelligent to explain computational thinking to us plebs.
