I was actually stuck with the same issue of travelling internationally with a full-fledged pc and monitor, and I suggest looking at the Small Form Factor PC forum, as well as Optimum Tech on youtube as resources for sffpc building (and of course, reddit as well). I've currently settled on the Coolermaster NR200P (and if it is too big, I will go with the NCASE M1) so if you wanted case suggestions then both of them are solid options! I have to say though, because of the weight of the case, I will dismantle the pc and carry delicate parts on board, and put stuff like the case (with motherboard, cpu, m.2 drive etc) in my check-in bag, and take my gpu, cpu cooler and hdd as carry on (inside the manufacturer anti-static bags!!!!!) Hope that helps!!
@marieantoine2 жыл бұрын
I also have the NR200P case. Thinking of bringing it with me on my flight. Did you put the case inside a luggage/suitcase or did you put it back into it's original box (for more protection)? Have you tried bringing the case as carry-on? Also, what cooler are you using? Is it necessary to remove the cpu cooler? Mine is very heavy (tower cooler) and I don't want to bother repasting it to the cpu.. And how about the power supply? Did you not take it apart from the case?

The X-ray and metal detector have in rare cases scrambled some data on a HDD, SSD, USB and SD card. Again this is rare due to modern data storage techniques, but if you have bulky important files then take a cloned drive.

I am about to do this in Winter of 2024. I built a gaming PC with a Corsair Mini ITX 2000D, knowing that I will take it with me as a carryon from the U.S. to Asia. I can confirm I traveled last weekend on Delta airlines, and I was able to fit my mid tower case inside the overhead cabin. No flight attendants realized the size of my case that was stored in my gymbag, so I rushed to put it inside before anybody said anything. Mission accomplished, although I did put the components like GPU, motherboard and so on, on my personal small item (backpack). This to avoid being told to send my case with the rest of the checked baggage beneath the plane, so components wouldn't bounce and break. With this learned I want to hopefully next time not even have to put apart my desktop. and still store it inside the overhead cabin.

@@Flame_Chaser sounds about right, carry on baggage (meaning your nzxt case) doesnt have weight restrictions or at least not verified by anyone. Thankfully now I have enough knowledge to take a PC apart and put them back together. So I think what I'll do is take everything apart, wrap each component in bubble wrap or foam then put them in the largest carry on suitcase allowed and a large backpack. Put those 2 in the overhead cabin. Leave the case behind, sell it or give it to a friend. Get a new case in the new country and build it back again. My go-to case is Lian Li O11 (getting the new EVO when it comes out) and it doesn't cost that much anyway so worst case, I can repeat the process again and again. It's just like putting Legos together 😂

Bubble wrap or foam aren't a great idea as they can hold and generate static electricity. Now if you wrap your components in antistatic bags first? Totally doable.

Anyway when I travelled to mainland, I wrapped it up a lot with foam, put some underwear and air bags inside of the case to protect it. Removed the GPU and put on my school bag with his original anti-static bag. It is working fine but it was kind of a risk bringing it as checked luggage because it's a very valuable thing, might brake or be stolen. I think my friend brought his PC case inside a large Nike bag (removed the GPU previously) to Canada, he had no problems.

@@floki9493Bonjour, did you remove any parts from your pc tower? Do you have a link as an example of the backpack you used please? I’m planning on bringing my tower and keyboard on board. Did it fit under the seat?

Hi Ilse, thanks for this. Very useful. If you're open to suggestions, could you please a video of your demo reel and how you went about creating it and why you chose those shots to include in your reel. Im currently an animation student in Canada, so it would really help!! - Jay :)

I need to travel from Colombia to México then Canada with my desktop PC and I think I am in trouble, because it has a crystal side which will probably end up broken if I take it as baggage. At the same time it is heavy as foock to take it as a cabin luggage. I don't know what to do.
