Dvorak's actions in this episode are priceless. Comedy gold.

Last release was in 2001 right? I hope the source is released some day so that a community version could continue the OS/2 dream.

How right Morrow was, looking back, about the importance of marketing the OS and hardware. It's as if Jobbs and Apple in the mid 2000s looked back and saw this episode and took Morrow's advice, and as a result, became the most successful computer company in history by 2015.

My 1stPC a "Salvation Army Thrift Store" special was an IBM-P/S2-50. came with DOS-3 and lots of info on charity contributions from Indianapolis Upper Crust...(I wiped it - installed DOS-6.20) You hear that Mr. Simon? I really liked reading about you and your wife!

My father and I had OS/2 for awhile in the 90's I remember the memory management having a bunch of problems with software that would run fine under DOS.

@5:35 High resolution graphics 640x480 16 colors (4-bits), cute xD well I guess in 30 years people will say the same of our modern ultra-wide 8K 10-bit per channel, 30-bit monitors and video cards. 10 MHz CPUs, 640 KB RAM, 150 KB had to be assigned for the graphics mode for the "HD" resolution, 386SX was able to address 16 MB RAM IIRC, and the 386DX 4GB but here they're trying to break the 1 MB barrier, which was complicated at the time, they had to remap BIOS/ROM addresses to high and upper memory to free up RAM for the OS and apps, a model could take years to develop, R&D were expensive and slow, wow, those were the times that when new CPUs or computer models, like the i486 was announced it'd come months/years later lots of hype and when it launched it was a worldwide sensation, now a new CPU arhcitecture is announced and is only like 15 second announcement, a little longer than taking a fart, disappointing...

i got myself a ps/2 model 30 286 today. 161 163 I downloaded the startup disk, it works. The 30mb also works flawlessly. Now I need to get the cmos battery replacement :-) The machine is suprisingly silent.

The 32 Bit Micro Channeling has a lot of problems and in typical IBM fashion it was proprietary. It was actually fast and it had that cool 720K floppy drive. IBM's marketing department was horrible and could not market to the home market and this is one of the biggest reasons we don't run OS/2 Warp! over Windows.

thankfully the model 30 has 16bit ISA. that is open arcitecture... not the fail MCA in model 50 and onwards.

I have OS/2 versions 3.0, and 4.0 and it is nice, but did not get the support of software developers like Windows did. Both versions runs some of Windows software as well as Dos software. The PS/2 computers are nice, but IBM gave up on them too soon and got out of the PC business when there was a need for something else other than Windows which crashed too often at the time. IBM was making too much of their hardware proprietary like Apple and hurt themselves.

Macintosh SE was the real deal in 87... PS/2 = Toy.
@JaredConnell8 жыл бұрын
maybe if you're color blind lol. don't get me wrong I love the se but no color and very little expansion capabilities makes it hard to call it the real deal and the ps2 a toy. jobs was a lot like Henry Ford, thinking he knew what was best for the consumers. Ford famously said 'customers can have it in any color as long as it's black'. it jobs thought more about the customers needs in the present as well as the future. who wants a machine that you can't replace the monitor to a larger (and maybe color, I mean the Apple ][ was color lol so why not) one. and when you eventually get a new machine you can't use your old monitor you have to pay for another one built into the system as well. then the lack of expansion cards etc adds up to a very limited machine with a short life span. too bad jobs didn't give us the best of both worlds.
