You've helped me choose which blue-light would be best for me and given me lots of ways to help with my very dry eyes! I was wondering if you ever considered making a patreon or some sort of way for people to connect with you and ask you questions about their personal conditions. sort of like a paid doctor appointment.

Actually i was given a choice by the eye clinic to choose a total blue type glass and a clear looking glass(with the filter) and i ended up going for the total clear one. Now my eyes gets super sensitive when i see white color. I am thinking of going for the yellow shaded type glasses, hopefully they reduce the stress completely.

Cool shirt. Very informative, I bought some low power readers for book reading. My blue light glasses have zero magnification. Initially I thought they helped, but then started trying my readers and found them much better. I don't get eyestrain, but I do notice easier focusing with my readers. I went to eye exam to confirm, I still have 20/20, but she wanted to provise 'reading glasses' mainly because insurance paid, so I waived that to just keep my standard readers. She offered a bigger number than I'm comfortable with, my long distance is superb.

Hello Dr Allen, thanks for the clarification between complete glasses and blue filter glasses. I gave a distance cylindrical power in both eyes. Both are different and have different axis. Is it ok to continue using the same glasses for computer as well? What are the options?

What is the difference between having magnification to help with convergence vs a prism vs a small ADD in the bottom (like Essilor anti fatigue/sightrelax)? I had a concussion and was given a 2 fresnel prism and told to wear them with a no rx lenses for computer work (I am nearsighted with a -2.00 rx for distance). However I was also told I would benefit from a small ADD of 0.6 for my distance lenses, but not to put the fresnel on my distance lenses. Would combining computer glasses with the 0.25 magnification along with the prism potentially provide additional benefit? When would you choose a fresnel prism over magnification for up close reading and vice versa? Similarly when would you choose the 0.25 magnification over the 0.4 ADD (0.4 is the lowest available) of the anti fatigue lenses? From my understanding they all help with convergence but with different mechanisms. There seems to be so many opinions it’s very difficult as a consumer to navigate! Thanks for helping to demystify the eyecare world with your videos!

I use software for those needs. In most (if not all) modern operating systems, you can set a blue light - reduction mode to kick in at a specific time (for example several hours before your bedtime) and then return back to normal lighting in the morning. Smartphones also have this capability. For eye strain - you can increase the scale from the display settings. So, those needs can be addressed with no need of special tools, other than software settings in your OS. If you're prescribed reading glasses and feel the need to use it, when you're in front of a computer - then, by all means do.

I went to an ophthalmologist and had them analyze exactly what I needed. They did an amazing job and it was life changing for my IT job. However, they didn't see blue light blocking technology as necessary since the sun and being outside provides 100x more exposure.

Why can't we reverse your ophthalmologist's argument and say that this means that we need eye protection for outdoors as well? But even if exposure to the sun makes a small difference, why take any chances? It's our health we're talking about.

Thank you Dr. Allen for the educational video. I stay almost all my day behind both my laptop and mobile screens. The area around my eyes is very wrinkly, red, tired, and I wake up every day to see bulging below the eyes. Do I need computer or blue light glasses, or both? What glasses are perfect for me? You're a treasure to the community.

I recently bought a pair of Gunnar Ellipse Glasses with their 65 amber and .2 magnification! Interested to see how I like them over the coming weeks, but I'm not all too certain about the magnification, as I tend to remove my glasses at home/ long screen use, so that alone will take some "getting used to"

For eye protection screen you need to check StillerSafe Advanced light control screen which is very good for eyes and your future . Check on google. Wearing anything on your eyes will not help you for long hour work on the laptop. try this screen check reviews on amazon but expensive on amazon cheaper on their website.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:00 📚 Introduction to Computer and Blue Light Glasses - Introduction to the video comparing computer glasses and blue light glasses. 00:34 🤓 Understanding Computer Glasses - Computer glasses are dedicated for relieving eye strain when looking at a near object, typically a computer screen. - Computer glasses are distinct from reading glasses, designed for a different focal distance. - They reduce muscle tension in the eye and eye muscles, alleviating discomfort from prolonged screen use. 02:25 🌌 Exploring Blue Light Glasses - Blue light glasses are designed to block or filter out harsh blue light from digital screens and LED lights. - They can improve sleep quality by preserving melatonin production. - Many blue light glasses are non-prescription and come with various filtering technologies. 04:14 🎮 Gaming Glasses and Finding the Right Prescription - Gaming glasses often include blue light filters but are typically non-prescription or have very low magnification. - To find the right prescription for computer or reading glasses, consider age-related power requirements: - Under 40: +0.25 to +0.50 - Early to mid-40s: +1.00 - 50 and above: +1.25 to +1.75 (approximations; consult an eye doctor for precision). 06:59 👓 Conclusion and Additional Resources - Summarizes the key points discussed in the video. - Encourages viewers to seek professional guidance for the best-fitting computer glasses. - Offers additional resources and related videos for those interested in eye health and relief from digital eye strain. Yes! I use computer glasses combined with blue light screen film. They are so much clearer and eye strain comfortable than my multi focal glasses (which caused me to hold my head at the small band focal length). I set my computer glasses at approx 36" length from the screen. I like to lean back on the office chair and watch video's, etc. I go back to the multi focal glasses especially when typing because the keyboard is naturally too close for the keyboard when a lot of typing is necessary. I also purchase a pair of reading glasses to allow easy book or letter reading, All three glasses sit on top of my printer and I flick them around as required. The reading glasses used infrequently. The multi focal ones used when I want to turn around a bit to view a bit of the TV news or game show.

I use normal prescription glasses with a blue light filter coating on them for every day, it helps filter the extra stimulus when going about my day. and gives me more peaceful feeling throughout the day then normal prescription glasses.

Do you know of any blue light glasses that have prescription while at the same time not having too harsh of a yellow tint? I'm an artist so it's vital the colors on the screen aren't affected by the tint of my glasses.

Yes, There is some blue light blocking in a few A/R coatings and even in Transition lenses - but those are best obtained through a local optical or glasses shop.

When I recently was prescribed glasses for astigmatism (I had blurry vision after staring at my phone and books for too long) my doctor warned me about using them “when I didn’t need them” because of eye-muscle atrophy. He said to use them as a tool when my vision felt strained, but not to use them every time I read, since we want our eye muscles to still “exercise,” as it were (to use your lifting analogy). What do you think about this? Is it better to always use the glasses when reading (on my phone and books) to reduce the amount of weight (5lbs instead of 20) or continue to use the glasses only sometimes?
@DoctorEyeHealth

It is difficult for me to fully comment as I was not there for your exam. There is a lot to be said about someones accommodative ability. The nice thing is that accommodation can be trained (to an extent or until presbyopia fully sets in). For most people, true atrophy of the ciliary body is not a real thing. But poor coordination and control of the eye muscles is. I am also not sure how strong your prescription was, where it is usually not appropriate to prescribe a full reading power to someone who is not fully presbyopic. There are different theories on this but most doctors only prescribe 1/3rd to 1/2 of the accommodative demand for reading, as that is usually most comfortable and also allows for engagement of the accommodative system.
