In this video, I respond to some recent troll comments on a recent video I made about Tronscript. Many of these comments were not at all helpful, and some simply WRONG. I also clarify some of the mistakes I made in the first video, as well as correcting some of the best practices you should follow.

As a tech with over 30 years experience myself, two things I would have done different. 1) Run in SMWN. Like for real. You have over 30 years experience, you should be able to tell people how to get to SMWN so that even 90 year old grandma can do it and being on KZbin with the added ability to have it on video is just being lazy and does not have the benefit of a clear environment. 2) Run not just TRON script but RKill as ADMIN this goes without saying. A good video and kudos for what you are trying to do, but I do question some of your methods as this is the kind of thing a Garage Tech does vs those that have worked in a call center/helpdesk/corporate support would do things. Overall a lot of the same tools I would use manually in a script it's just I would have done this a bit different even knowing who the target audience is.

I once had a rather well known security KZbinr tell me I was shilling for keepass because I suggested that over the online password manager they were suggesting that ended up getting hacked. Like AYCG said I didn't understand how I can shill for a free software or even why I would shill for them since they are not paying for advertising anywhere else.

I am retired now, was a network security engineer for almost 40 years and my advice is to just ignore the trolls, everything you said was bang on. In rare cases you will need to do something more to solve some ransomware, but for most bugs/malware/viruses...you nailed the best way to get rid of them. Good job.

I too am a retired Cyber Security engineer for one the largest companies in the UK for the past 42 years and what you have advise is very helpful thank you. Sure we sold customers some great products to protect them but not everyone can afford services like CrowdStrike and Zscaler security.

@@smokescreen2146 Yes, it is. "You don't swat mosquitos with an atomic bomb." Like he said, John Q. Public doesn't know how to format his hard drive and re-install his programs and restore his data. John Q. Public is lucky if he has a backup at all. If the tron script happens to not clean the system, THEN he can format the hard drive and go to all the trouble of re-installing his software and restoring your data.

I just love the "Windows Antivirus is good enough" comments. People who say that have clearly never worked in a repair shop because they'd know that some people need more robust protection from their online habits and lack of savvy.

I've never trusted Windows Defender. To do so in my view regardless of how little one uses their computer is a complete recipe to get hacked, get nasties and you name it. Maybe they have improved the software over the years however considering how quickly Microsoft rush through everything to do with their software, tweak stuff that actually isn't broken and cause other major issues as a result, there is no way on this this earth that I would trust them to develop a fully secure anti virus programme!!!!

I do this for a living, all day, every day. I know this guy personally, and can vouch that he truly does know what he's talking about. Are there other, more complicated ways to do it? Sure! But for the average user with an average consumer PC, his advice is always spot on. Plus, I'd guess that he's been doing this longer than most, if not all, those trolls have probably even been alive! 🙄 Great follow up, bro - you're nicer than I would have been. 😂

I just watched the video you're referencing this morning. It looked pretty good to me! I've been doing PC work (mainly malware removal) for about 20 years now, I don't own any purchased software, so I've literally been making a living using FREE/Opensource software!

Nice video! Almost a "set it and forget it approach", eh? As someone who has fixed Windows PC problems over 25 years now [for free], I've only seen a few people who actually 'stuck around' to observe what I was doing or what software I was using, etc. Usually after 10 minutes or so, that curiosity is gone and they just want the blasted thing fixed. Most folks just want their PC working again! After watching your earlier video on Tron script I downloaded and examined it To my surprise - I've used almost every single tool in it and still do. First video was informative and useful, as was this one. Sorry the trolls felt the need make themselves known

But then.y target audience, which are basically "noobs" their brains melted with "just install Linxu" or "clone your hard drive and run a NAS box", I have to step in. I, myself, Like you have been in the Tech field for over 30 years. When I saw your video on Tron and rkill, I chuckled just a little cause I use this method and have been using this method for quite some time. It works. enough said. You were quite a bit more friendly with your responses from the neighboring trolls. hehe. Myself, I doubt I'd have been so nice about it, but at the same time I understand that adding fuel to a fire makes a bigger fire...So I like the presentation you gave first video, with the exception of a couple things I thought needed noting, but as for a lot of people being "Non-Tech" folks, this is one of the easiest ways to rid your PC of malware and viruses. Thank you for the honest and objective feedback. I'm not a KZbinr. I'm a PC guy who makes videos on KZbin, so I do make mistakes from time to time, and try to acknowledge them for my viewers. Trolls will be Trolls. I don't mind them voicing their opinions, but as you know, the average Joe out there can't do all the things they suggest, and those people are my primary audience. It was just good (and mostly correct) comments, just placed on the wrong channel. That's how I see it

Don't worry about the tools bro. Obviously they haven't a clue what they are talking about. I have been working on Comps since about 1995 and lately some of the tech has gotten away from me but viruses and the like are still pretty much like they always have been. It is just awesome that they are so easy to remove now because I remember back in the day having to manually remove them from various places on the machine and it could take hours trying to find them like the run files in the registry and anywhere else you can think of. The ones I had trouble with were the nasty ones that would get in your host files. Anyway that's all under the bridge now with all the great FREE OPEN SOURCE stuff out there. I have never paid for any cleaner of any kind and I never will and I never!...let me repeat...never! get viruses on my computers. Your video was just plain awesome and extremely helpful to people who are not very computer literate. Keep up the great work!

06:14 - Agree with your response on this one. The fact that you can customise things doesn't mean you have to, or that doing so proves some kind of deeper understanding. Some of us are quite content with many of the default settings/layouts. I'd don't quite have the 40 years experience of one of the other respondents, but I'm clocking 35 years and change in IT - 17 years in Internet Security - and on my Windows installs I basically reduce the default icon size & scaling, swap out the desktop for a plain colour and turn off the news function. Everything else I leave as it is - but then I run Windows where I have to and all my other machines use Linux ;o)

I'm not a techie kind of person, but about the time of WfW 3.11, I realized that I should NOT customize my own machine, because that would slow me down whenever I was working on another one (which happened not infrequently in my case). Learn how to be efficient with what Microsoft gives you. Don't get around much any more, so I set up Cinnamon to my tastes, just a bit.

Your video saved me a lot of frustration. I was not able to remove the "PC app store" because the uninstall file was missing. I was dumb and needed WhatsApp on my computer to talk to a few people. Doing it on my cell was becoming laborious. I chose the first option to install "WhatsApp" and that came bundled with "PC Store". I didn't even want to use "WhatsApp" a Facebook group, Discord or even an email would have been much easier.

I've worked on computers for 18 years now. I haven't heard about Tron script until now! I definitely appreciate what you do. Everybody that does this sort of thing has their own methods, it's a closed minded individual who is not willing to try something different and an outright ass that criticises others who are willing to help. Don't let them get to you. I can say that I ran these two programs on my computer. No viruses were found but when Tron had finished it did correct some other issues. Couldn't get my Dymo printer to connect, tried several attempts. But when Tron finished it connected with no problem and my computer runs better on no "Blue Screen". Keep up the great work. Thanks,

The only thing I must say is thanks a lot man !!! I saw your previous video and you saved my life with your advice about tronscript; I've an old desktop PC which is using Windows 7; it was very slow and I didn't even use Avast or Malwarebites on it, because it always got frozen, so I had to inactivate the antivirus in order to navegate through the internet (which made my computer more vulnerable). I saw you video and I gave Tronscript a chance, and it was like magic; my PC is virus free and is fast again; I even are using Avast free without any issues to navegate through internet. THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR RECOMENDATION MATE !!!

Super antispyware is like malwarebytes, but not as resource hungry, and its found trojans that malwarebites missed, and visa versa, i run both a couple of times a week, then turn them off

Personally I think you did a few things during the video that I did not agree with, such as: -Running multiple processing heavy Programs at once (puts strain on the computer but may possibly be faster overall) -Running a Clean/Defrag Process at the start of the job (this is personal preference, in terms of actual results you wont gain too much from optimizing and cleaning the system afterwards but you will still catch more. Also defrags and cleans can move around cleverly hidden programs, actually helping them to stay hidden from scans.) -Not running other types of scans/checking other areas. eg repairing drives, checking network drives/firewalls/physically connected devices. -Not configuring Tron Script to run custom parameters for your use case. (You addressed this one! great job!) -Using CCleaner with the default options despite its bad rep. (again you addressed this one and peoples concerns, Great job!) --------------------- Aside from those issues, yoy explained everything very simply and spoke very well. You seem very knowledgeable about this area of computers and I dont doubt your skill despite your actions. Also I am not claiming to know any more about this than the average user. Overall, great video and I am very happy you made a response video! Great Job recommending Tron Script, I like what it offers, you may have also liked to mention that it has other functions such as patching and editing things on your computer for protection and extra bloat removal/tracking. Adding to this, you may want to repeat to people that open source doesnt mean bad, it simply means the code is readable and usually able to be taken and used freely. Great Stuff!

Scott, along with many others, is providing a valuable service to those less inclined or unable to learn the inner workings of computer software. To expect every video to be a complete, irrefutable, and completely error-free lesson is unreasonable and, frankly, impossible. My first computer was a (1986) Tandy 1000SX with 5-1/4 floppies and NO HardDrive, with which I learned DOS Basic and developed some of my own programs. Since then, I've used every Microsoft OS version (except Win 10, graduating straight from 8.1 to 11) and "built" 3 computers. I still watch every, single one of Ask Your Computer Guy's videos and learn something, and most often lots of things, from each one. If the know-it-alls of the computer world can;t think before they speak when finding criticism about a certain video, they reveal more about themselves than the content creator they're criticizing. Watch and learn, friends.

I do agree that the original video was a bit clickbaity and absolutist, and I appreciate the corrections. Otherwise, yes, Tronscript and rkill (which Tronscript uses) are good ways to clean most malware/virus infections, and can easily be used by most non-tech-savvy people. if you have solid backups, I would reload Windows. If you don't, Tronscript is a great tool to potentially "fix" your issues while preserving your data.

Interesting video. Some people have what us Aussies call: Tall poppy syndrome!!! In other words they have to knock down someone who either knows more than them or are better than them. Keep it up. I accidently came across your channel yesterday and made a few comments and you were so quick to reply that I'm gobsmacked to say the least. Now to my comments if I may. I tried Tron script on 2 different computers. Computer A, my own new laptop. and Computer B a friend's computer who doesn't run any anti virus programme, the Malwarebytes had stopped because she didn't elect to run the free version after the trial period however does run CCleaner (which I installed ages ago for her). Here are my results: I'll start with computer B first: Computer B: (Friend's computer - running Windows 10, 4GB Ram). Basically the Trons scrpt ran however except for RKill and Malwarebytes programmes it brought up the error messages: Unable to find the exe files for the other viurs removal programmes it runs. Also said it couldn't find CCleaner exe file. I simply clicked okay and let the software keep running. Overall results: The script freed up approximately 1.2 GB of space on her SSD hard drive, even after reinstalling Malwarebytes prior to running the script and doing the Windows update. Hence whilst the script couldn't find the actual virus removal programmes except for Malwarebytes, it certainly cleaned up her SSD drive. Also noted that none of the Windows settings I had changed prior to running the script were affected. My computer: (Running Windows 11, 32GB Ram): Well. I restarted the computer prior to running Tron and nothing happened. Then in the early stages of running Tron I got a message that there was a Windows update to be downloaded and installed so I clicked out of this, rather than do the update. Basically Tron ran beautifully for about an hour or two however than got hung up on Windows disk clean (which I've since learnt can be a common problem) in stage 1. Basically stayed on the same for over 13 hours. So I ended up closing the programme and shut down the laptop. When I rebooted the computer I went into Updates and the update was not there. Only a HP USB update which had been there prior to installing Tron which will not update. Computer rebooted perfectly and all settings maintained. Conclusion: Before using Tron, do the Windows updates and then turn off the update for 7 days and see whether this will resolve this stalling issue in Tron. From what I understand, when I reopen Tron again, the software will pick up where it left off and hopefully will go along it's merry way. So I'll give this a wee go and see what happens. Overall whilst Tron didn't do all the checking on my friend's computer (which I ran the programme twice to see what would happen) and appeared to stall/hang at a specific point on my computer, it is definitely worth a try. The software can recover a small amount of disk space for other uses and will be good. PS: I've also downloaded the Virtoy (or whatever this software is called) and placed on a USB and included Windows 10 (so if something happens to my friend's computer I'm able to help her) and Windows 11 (if something happens to my computer) and also Linux Mint. Plus did as you suggested and placed a personal folder on this USB stick for an important folder I maintain specific files in. I had never heard of FBackup however, I'm impressed with this software also. I don't know about anyone else however, this is my experience with the Tron software and I'm happy. So ignore the naysayers and the trolls and simply do your thing. Whilst I'm not a computer tech, I do love learning new things re computers and in many instances I can get myself out of trouble relatively quickly. Mainly because I was cyber stalked and cyber hacked for 3 years and my IT friend (who has now passed away) taught me a hellva lot and had been in the IT game for over 20 years. Believe me I learnt the value of running software which will help maintain a clean computer. And, quite frankly the naysayers are probably people who probably run a lot of these viruses and should crawl back under the rock they came from. My 2 cents worth. Well maybe a few dollars worth!!!

Definitely a few dollars worth! Sorry Tron didn't give the expected results. There are lots of variables, including level of infection (or not), current configuration and security levels, etc. I appreciate the comment about the naysayers. We have what we call here "armchair quarterbacks" - in other words, people who sit on the couch watching professional football and then screaming how THEY could have made that pass. It happens. I don't normally let it get to me, and I welcome comments from anyone who disagrees with me (or in the case of Ventoy, has a better way). What I won't accept is idiots who leave stupid, misleading or hateful comments just because of their own ignorance or inadequacies. Further, my VIEWERS read these comments. They come to this channel for accurate and helpful information, for free, and I don't need armchair quarterbacks who don't know what they are saying, influencing MY community I've worked so hard to build. On a final note, I'm sorry about your friend. But look at how much he taught you...that's something to hold onto ❤️

Update: After clearing out the updates (software distribution folder) and a couple of other minor tweaks, including checking no updates had to be undertaken, as well as setting for not wanting updates for 3 weeks, I again rebooted the computer and opened up Tron. As I was informed by another channel, the Tron software picked up where it left off and went along it's merry way. This time, it was able to do the Windows checks easily and went through the remainder of its processes. It started the Malwarebyes scan all by itself (as I was in noddy land at the time) and completed this check. Basically I got a lovely green screen saying Tron had done it's work. Yea. I think what I will do is simply run this programme every few months (unless I'm advised I have an infection that my usual programmes can't remove) and I then know that it will be okay. In Conclusion: Tron is definitely worth checking one's computer out to ensure all okay. However, if it does hang in the Windows disk check for say 10 hours, simply close the programme and shutdown the computer for a time. Check there are not pending updates that have to be downloaded and installed. Turn off Windows updates for at least 3 weeks. Then clear out the Software Distribution folder in C drive/Windows/Software Distribution. (This is a very safe action to do and will not interfere with Windows). Reboot the computer and open up the Tron software and it will pick up where it left off. Please note: Ensure you don't click anywhere in the command window whilst Tron is running or appears has paused in its processes as this will cause Tron to hang. And, before you undertake the above steps ensure you have left more than enough time for Tron to do its thing. Mine was left for 13 hours, so I would suggest you leave it around this long. It may work doing these steps earlier however, then this is at your own risk. Many thanks for the video and all the info. Very greatly appreciated.

^^^ this! With one caveat...restart your PC before running TronScript, as you want to make sure you have all the Windows updates finished before running. Here's a little secret. Don't tell anyone. Me and a buddy of mine, a crypto and cybersecurity expert, are going to take TronScript and make it 100x better - user friendly with easy to use and follow steps. Stay tuned!

Saw the video a few days ago and debated doing it on sister's 2010ish PC 1st before trying it on my newer 2021 PC as hers is definitely showing age and I have noticed some lag on my newer one the last couple months. If I do run it, does it clear the browser history / cache / settings etc of Firefox Edge and Chrome as part of the script? Downloading and reinstalling a couple programs here and there doesn't seem too big an issue to resolve, but the convenience of the computer knowing all my history, shortcuts etc over the course of years is something to think about. I do have Malwarebytes and Avast already installed on all my PCs but there are times I think it's only doing the bare minimum nowadays.

It will clear browser cache and delete temp files, but no actual user data is affected. In other words, it won't "remove" anything that needs to be"put back" or fixed or redone. Hope that helps!

I've got a question. Tron didn't want to update, apparently there was no internet connection, there was. Could it be that the pc is completely taken over. And if it is so, what now, napalm the pc or are there less harmful ways. Someone told me that buying a new pc won't even help cause it's already in the router, internet gateway. I would try running in safe mode if regular mode is somehow blocking internet access for Tron. If that doesn't work, at least make sure you got the latest Tron, it will be better than nothing to get started. I've run Tron without internet, it just eventually continues on without updating. No need to napalm the PC (thx for that laugh btw), here's always a way around anything. And as far as the router, highly unlikely - can't remember the last time I saw an "infected" router. It's rare.

Sir my laptop is new amd radeon graphics, everytime i open an apps it doesn't work properly, i always update my windows and troubleshoot but after the process the result is always check update issues, and evrytime i open a file, sometime there is a message about updating diplay graphics and what i did is update the display driver and restart the laptop theresult is still the same😢 can you give me some advice for this? If you are having all these problems, specifically with graphics, I would probably send it back and get a replacement. Or it could be a Windows glitch. Restore back to factory defaults and if the problem continues, THEN send it back. There is no reason you should have the kinds of issues on a brand new machine

First, try changing the file extension manually. Then see if the file(s) open. If so, you're good to go. If you have an actual ransomware infection, even TronScript won't help much 🤷‍♂️

As a Mindspring tech rep from prior to the 56K modem days (like when the building got a T1 line, we all cheered), I can honestly say that I HAVE walked customers thorough reinstalling DUN (i won't explain that) and on 3 or 4 occasions - reinstalling Windows over a POTS line and speaking with a real human - providing that they had either a valid install disk or the .cab files in their proper directory (old heads will understand.) When the tech was that good, I thrived. When calls became about numbers, i left.

Hey Scott....I'm what I would stereotype myself as a "geek dad pc enthusiast" that enjoys to build/tinker/tweak my main pc and laptop for optimal performance and security.... I was intrigued by this video. However, I have a basic question to ask... If, after following all of your instructions to to run rkill and tron and at roughly 11:14 in the video you state "Now that we've removed any leftover programs there's only one thing left to do and that is to remove items from startup" and basically you explain how to "disable items/malware programs from startup. If the programs still showing up in the startup programs.... Then they aren't actually removed... To me, if the malware is still showing in task manager/startup folder then they weren't completely removed in the first place. You are just disabling them from starting when windows starts. At 11:26 in your video you/yourself even make the following comment "So anything that is still left over in startup I want to simply disable it". If you have to disable a program from starting, then it isn't actually removed. You are just stopping it from starting. Seems to me that if the malicious programs were actually removed/cleaned from your system, then they wouldn't even show in task manager as startup programs. Can you truly explain this to me?
