For anyone wondering about the liver thing. Jigar comes originally from Persian, most Persianate people have something like the phrase "I want to eat your liver." Persians have a long history of poetry and the function of the liver in filtering the blood made it something of a poetic metaphor for life force. Most of the time English idioms stick to the heart ("Eat your heart out," etc.). In addition, in most Persianate cultures the stomach is the "feeling organ" much like the heart is in English. If you miss someone, "your stomach tightens" for them.
