can't wait for the next one, these videos have been a great audio/ visual supplement to Robert E Howard's description of the age of Hyborea.

Why thank you John and the kind words are most appreciated. Also thanks for the link to the readings. The Barbarian King of Aquilonia deserves to be more well known other than by the famous movies as Howard did make a very detailed world. :)

From watching the pictures of the Picts, i cant decide wether they are supposed to be like american natives OR kind of an orc-race.. (at least the boardgame-picts look that way)
@akaisamurai7 жыл бұрын
Ha, well the older the picture the more it was meant to clearly show they were Native Americans due to Howard's less than political correct intention but the more modern you get, the more they are made to look more monstrous to avoid the whole race issue.
@aidansumner83646 жыл бұрын
Pretty fucking sure they're meant to be like the actual celtic picts in the lore.
@iknownothing19905 жыл бұрын
@@aidansumner8364 They are hinted to be related but they are Howard's fictional precursors to North American natives, inuit, saami, Siberians and very distantly the real life Picts who were always concidered themselves to be of a different origin than the other Brythonics.

My friend said picts were amerinds but its an irish word right. I guess its playing on original northern indigenous race? Celts and natives arent too different before the bronze age atleast materialistically.

@akaisamurai6 жыл бұрын
I won't look too much into the lore as real history as the author was well known to have stereotyped the different races. To me, it is more fantasy and I enjoy it as such.

@@akaisamurai yea it seem like it but being savages was a interesting part in real history having a wall build to keep us out

He based the Picts off both native Americans and the Celtic people but he wasn't being 'racist' (that is he didnt look down on historical peoples he based his races on). Something to remember is that Howard's core theme in his mythos is civilization vs barbarism. he felt that civilization was an unnatural and unhealthy state for humanity and that all civilized people would eventually return to barbarity. Most of the races in Howards works start as barbarians, build a nation, become decadent, then fall back into barbarism.

All this stories are in fact REAL!!! The Huns came from Cimmerians!
@sharkfinbite6 жыл бұрын
As real as the Scientology books are. He only copied some elements he saw in history books and altered things to his liking. They are NOT ACCURATE. It's like how George Lucas done with creating Jedi from researching world folklore. There does in fact exist padawans, and I have came across a term in another culture that is, "Jedi." ( I am not kidding. I think it is some name of a rank a person has gained in some progression in some organization or religion. It's not even the highest rank. It is the lowest lower tiers) Does this mean everything in star wars is real? No. The creator just put real life influences in to his fantasy.

@@mmatenay8488 No, Huns are Huns, Turks are Turks... both Nomadic tribes hailing from the mongolian Steppes.

The Hyrkanian are obvious hun proxies, they are tribal horse nomads, and are occasionally united by a Khan. I'd like to think the Cimmerians are proxies for the unconquerable people Ceasar "the belgae are the bravest of Gaelic people". they live in swampy lowlands forests (few hills though), it's always cold, damp and misty, bogs to hinder any invader.
@AAron-gr3jk3 жыл бұрын
Cimmerians = Belgian Northern Gaels/perhaps a little (marsh land, the one's Ceasar called bravest of the Gaels because they were nigh unconquerable) Some people compare Cimmerians to Germanic tribes like the Goths ( Gutones, Visigoths and Westgoths) , but I don't buy it. Hyrkanians = Huns (nomadic horse lords warriors under a khan, even placing them between Turan (Atta Turk's Turkey) and Kithai (3 kingdoms' china)
