Looks like a great edition. Btw this was close to the size we were getting Savage Sword in Greece during the 80's and 90's. 15 years ago Anubis Publications started printing oversized Savage Sword books with complete arcs like The Black Circle etc. Big size, very heavy paper, varnished cover with metallic titles etc. They made 2 of them and then... financial crisis and all that. They were going about 15 euros back then.

Thanks. I'll save my money. This is for Conan fans, and that's fine for them. It's not for particular types of art enthusiasts like me. I suspected as much and decided to wait and see. Glad I did. Some of the book is gorgeous but I would like less than a third of what was shown.
@ravesensation5533Ай бұрын
@@RAllenTucker yes there is art in the book that is not too my taste, but I am a huge Conan fan and for me the good far out weighs the art I’m not crazy about.

Worth it for Buscema alone.

B&W Conan is always good Conan. As much as we all love BWS, Gil Kane does NOT get enough praise for his talents.

When did you get your copy? I backed it and still don't have it. Saw that stores have it too. Getting really ticked off about this.

I got mine on Dec 19th or 20th, can't remember for sure. I would message them through the website for sure if I were you.

@ravesensation5533 I did a month ago and they gave the story that they had made pre-orders and we will get our when they get theirs shipped out. Then I sent another Friday night, waiting for that reply. Thanks

I put a link to a Bud Plant listing, but that is probably not going to be the only place to get it.

I remember when BWS was doing Conan. Seeing him improve each issue was amazing up to issue 22 where Sam Rosen helped out. I remember thinking WTF? because of the drop in quality.

Still waiting for my book and last update was in December from the seller on Zoop. I logged on to Zoop and could not find any contact information from the creator to find more status. No longer supporting Zoop since that option to reach out to seller is not available. Will just continue to wait impatiently while wondering when my copy will show up. Thanks for a review.

Wow! What a terrible presentation of a book of mostly great comics art! Not only is the narrator's descriptive vocabulary limited to two or three unexciting and too often repeated words, but he mispronounces just about every artist's name incorrectly, except maybe Adams and Toth. Sentimental or not, to think the draughtsmanship and anatomy of the early Smith art is anywhere near even a distant approximation of that of Buscema, Alcala, either Adams, Nebres, Kane or Isherwood only shows how little to nothing the guy doing the talking knows about either subject. A thoroughly amateurish, uninformed, unenlightening, simplistic and dull droning distracting detriment to a book of American art that speaks for itself!

Alfredo Alcala is the greatest Conan comics inker and up to the SSoC #20 his art is only magnificent. Afterwards he mixes styles for faster drawing and this is where he loses on greatness. Barry Windsor-Smith is good, but his art is a hit or miss.
@ravesensation5533Ай бұрын
@@bathyalgames I love Alfredo and wish they had more of his work represented. my one criticism of the book would be that as much as I love John B, I would have liked to have seen more work by other artists.
@bathyalgamesАй бұрын
@@ravesensation5533 You have mentioned that Barry Windsor-Smith has introduced you to Conan. J.B. has rather used Frazetta's Conan while Barry has tried more to stick to the R.E.H description of Conan. Therefore you have been introduced to a more authentic Conan. J.B has taken over Conan the Barbarian in late 1973, but i have to say that i prefer Conan the Barbarian by Barry. But both of them have missed the mark for a perfect Conan depiction. And there are many Barry Conan drawings that are really really great and much better than J.B., but then again there are drawings that i consider a failure.

@@bathyalgamesbws can barely draw man. Buscema makes everyone else look like a chucklehead, even Neal adams
@bathyalgamesАй бұрын
@@reginaldforthright805 Buscema can work well with different perspectives and angles, but he barely drew Conan. He delivered mostly only sketches of figures that others had to fill out. So therefore Roy Thomas went to the Filipines to get Alfredo Alcala. And there are only a few drawings of Conan from J.B. that are also inked by him. Therefore you also see quite the difference in quality of Conan Comics that depended on the artist inking the drawings. But I will give that he has made a specific look for Conan in comics that has endured the times. Neal Adams on the other hand revolutionized the entire comics industry. And BWS is, as I already said, a hit or a miss. Some of his Conan drawings are great and some are just bad.
@reginaldforthright805Ай бұрын
@@bathyalgames John Buscema excelled at dynamic figure drawing - getting a sense of movement and solidity with sophisticated and simplified forms reflecting a vast anatomical knowledge. All this is captured at the sketch stage. So while yes the inker affects the finish, buscema’s essence is still there. And I do like Neal Adams a lot. However, he is nowhere near as good as Buscema at the above. Like most comics artists, he focuses heavily on surface details.
