Conan the Barbarian may not have been the greatest movie ever made, or even close to it... but no musical score ever conveyed the power and emotions of a movie as perfectly as this. Poledoris was absolutely inspired when he wrote this music. His music MADE this movie great.

Conan's OST by Basil Poledouris is possibly the greatest OST ever written, and on top of this jewel rests a pure diamond that is The Funeral Pyre. There is a cello sound there that is almost from out of this world... Amazing how a single note can reach such grace and it always brings tears to my eyes. RIP Basil and thank you for this eternal piece of music.

It is poignant to realize that Poledouris probably knew he didn't have much time left while he was conducting this. The head scarf implies he had undergone chemotherapy. I guess he seized the opportunity to preform one last time while he still could.

@chatafkup Artistic epression the hardest thing to do is to create something thats needs no long winded explanation. Conan was like a silent movie... you didnt need words... the visuals were strong enough to speak more than any amount of dialouge could. And the music conveyed more emotion and feeling than most all musical scores since.

Don’t skip past the Funeral Pyre. In a way this a major climactic point in the story, perhaps the deepest you see Conan’s emotions go. And this music portrays it in an inspired way. Brilliant.

Vassilis was a great musician and orchestrator.I read once:there no make it anymore like they use to be...and i reply:cause there is not new fresh blood to fill this emptiness.Where was pure deep feelings for the human's greatest values like honor and pride when the death was no cost to defend this values.There was mens who took all that and wright it in a paper like homer like vassilis(with his own way).Be well where ever you are sadly this void we can't refill it.Truly you miss us to all.
