@@drewd3222 No, I was merely saying that our taciturn, easy-going demeanor is often mistakenly considered standoffish. My foreign friends are used to cultures in which people gush all over each other. We just don't do that. So to them, we are cold and unfriendly. We just have a different culture, that's all. It doesn't make us fake, stuck up, unfriendly, etc. It only makes us reserved. And as many of my fellow patriots will agree, we are a passionate but reserved people. Sadly, we are often unkind to each other. As a Westerner, I've experienced some discrimination from my countrymen from both the Maritimes, Ontario, and Quebec. I'm not sure what the problem was with the Maritimers, but I've met several of them now who think they're superior. This is exactly the opposite of the image they promote of being genuine, "down home", friendly people. The few people I met from NS had their heads so far up their asses about my province, it almost came to fisticuffs. And they'd never even been there. Furthermore and ironically, both my parents were born and raised in the Maritimes and took us kids out West because, in their words people in the Maritimes, "aren't very nice". And I've had a few people from Ontario tell me that Western Canada is "fly-over" for them. They fly over it on their way to vacation in Alaska or Hawaii. And that's the real challenge, isn't it? So few people scattered over the second largest country in the world has promoted a lot of ignorance. I wish it weren't so. A friend of mine from BC went to Ryerson for her undergrad and got nothing but grief from her fellow students from Ontario. She constantly heard a scornful "THAT'S SO BC!" about everything she did. None of them had ever been there, either. She finally told the stuck up twats to f*** off. I don't blame her. Lastly, I studied French all through school to First Year, but I have yet to meet a single Quebecois who will deign to speak French with me. As a base brat, I lived all over Canada, but I'll never leave the West again. So the 100th meridian is pretty meaningful in understanding Canada. I passed over it three times when my dad was in the military. Now, I don't ever plan to pass over it again unless I'm flying to Europe. You know the song: At the 100th Meridian where the Great Plains begin

I remember a -50 C (-58F) in Toronto once. It will never be that cold in Vancouver. It's not important which is northerner. On a map, Chicago is wayyyyy more south than Vancouver, but it will be colder. Philadelphia is +/- on the same latitude than Madrid in Spain. But their climate is totally not the same.
