We saw him in the airport one time. Our quite young kids shyly approached him for an autograph. He did his best wrestlers snarl asking them what they wanted in a way that had them laughing uncontrollably. They got his autograph and a memory they'll never forget. He is truly enormous and enormously friendly and engaging. Great guy.

After seeing him as a heel in WCW and WWE, seeing him as a face was just gold. He just couldn't stop smiling and him engaging with fans, especially young kids, looked absolutely normal for him. Seems like the kind of guy that you could just talk with about anything and he'd never think he was some hot shot. Paul Wight aka Big Show, keep doing what you're doing!!! 👍🏻👍🏻

It's wild how many stories like this there are with him. He might be one of (if not the) best examples of the name "Gentle Giant"... but I understand why they didn't choose that for the name of his character in wrestling lol

Most wrestlers are, and it makes sense when you really think about it considering they perform in front of crowds almost every night. They play characters on TV and in real life they're usually funny and well spoken people.

@@AtomicHombek He’s not what I’d call “huge.” But he is 6’4” - the problem is he only weighs 178lbs. Big Show is a legit 6’11” and at the time of this interview weighed 450lbs. So yeah, Paul Wight looks giant standing next to anyone except for NBA centers like Shaq. Now Wilt friggin Chamberlain 🤯🤯🤯 That dude at age 50 stood at center court and shook Patrick Ewing’s hand and Shaq’s hand and damn near pulled Shaq’s shoulder out of the socket. Arnold Schwarzenegger said Wilt was the strongest man he’d ever met. While body builders were using 120lb dumbbells for triceps extensions, Wilt would walk in totally cold with his 93” wingspan and do sets with 150lbs like it was nothing. He could bench 600lbs and squat 1,000lbs. Arnold said it, and Wilt confirmed it. That mfer had the same vertical as MJ - tied for the highest vertical leap in NBA history. You should see the videos of Ali standing next to a prime Wilt and the half court handshake 🤝 with him, Ewing, and Shaq. Thicker and taller than both.

Most of us big guys have to be like that, to be honest. I’m only 6’5” but I’m the shortest man in my family, we’re all really friendly and try to be funny and light hearted. Nobody wants the world to be constantly afraid of them, that shit gets lonely real fast. But my family is also really into combat sports, my father was the Third Army boxing champion during Vietnam, I’ve won a couple national tournaments boxing and kickboxing, won a state high school title wrestling. So like, there isn’t ever really a situation where I’ve had to be afraid, which makes being kind to everyone really easy.

I was a bouncer in Georgetown back in the 1980’s. One night a drunk patron thought that I was a pro wrestler named the Big Boss Man (I had never heard of Big Boss Man). As the night went on, he wouldn’t give it up. He wanted to challenge the Big Boss Man. So as I’m walking past his table, he jumps out of his chair and jumps on my back from behind. He throws a naked choke on me and will not go. Well, this was not my first rodeo. I knew he had me in a compromised position and I had maybe a minute or two before this might end badly. There was a parking meter directly outside the front door of the bar that we called “The Bouncer”. I carried the guy to the front door, turned around backwards and ran him full speed in to The Bouncer. Sure enough, he bounced off the meter and hit the ground. When I turned around to look at him laying on the pavement, I saw his pant leg was slightly rolled up and that he had a prosthetic leg. The guy ended up suing the bar. Rather than fight it, the bar agreed to terminate my employment. I immediately got another job three doors down with more pay and far fewer fights. So thanks, prosthetic leg guy!

This was Big Show during a career renaissance too. Late 2002-2003 he was in a killer feud with Brock Lesnar where the two beat the absolute hell out of each other for months. It helped reestablish Big Show as a threat in WWF/E and netted him his 2nd World title run in the company. No wonder he was in a great mood in this interview lol.

Spent alot of time with Paul when he was in Wichita attending Wichita State. My mom often cooked for him, and we enjoyed getting out to the clubs, and watching sports. He was always fun, humble, and friendly to everyone,...unless he got called "Lurch",..funny how that came up on this interview. while selling cars at the local Ford dealership, Paul was asked to be security for a Pearl Jam concert, and once the band spotted him, he was off for bigger cities where ultimately bouncing high profile clubs and being asked to professionally wrestle happened. He is just as he seems here,...funny, kind, and and great to have around. Happy it all turned out so well for him,......I think about him often and what it would be like to catch up,........

It's hard to believe that this was 20 years ago. "The Big Show" was obviously a great guy. Hilarious too.

Even though he was at the top several times, I still feel Bigshow was underrated during his tenure in the WWE, had they not propped him up to just be a big fat giant instead of getting him in shape he couldve been so great

Conan's team have master recordings of all their footage of Late Night with Conan O'Brien. They re-master the videos (enhance the quality) and upload it here.
