I like to carry the same way when I can... OWB with something like an open flannel or jean button-down as cover. One thing an instructor taught me many years ago... go down into the bottom of the button lines, open up the stitching at the very bottom corners, insert a washer, and sew it back up. When you go to fling open your shirt, the little bit of extra weight in that corner gives the shirt some momentum to continue to keep it out of the way that split second longer while you are drawing. I do this on both sides so it appears & feels symmetrical while wearing it, and some weight on the other side helps for mag draw as well.

@B real never been a fan of that myse;f, just like at a stationary range. you get trained for THAT situation. you need to have surprise, movement, obstacles etc. when me and my wife first got together (well few months later) one of the first things i did since she was already trained was do my best to keep her sharp and make her better, i would at random times throw out 15-20 targets with her back turned, tell her to locate and hit them within whatever time frame i figured it would take for an attacker to get to her. she can blast a pump action, any of her revolvers n make it sound like damn near a machine gun on multiple targets, give her a semi-auto and..yeah son, your fucked

Thanks for reinforcing the safety rule of don't put your finger on the trigger until ready to shoot. Because at ANOTHER KZbin channel (TacticalHyve) a guy named Myles instructs "prepping the trigger" in order to get faster times. Clearly, this means placing ones finger on the trigger _prior_ to the gun being 100% ready to be fired. Might be ok for the range, but not for the real world.

I used to train like this in my garage every day with wax plugs over primers. I started out doing the motions yoga slow for days and refused to rush it. I didn't want any bad habits to settle in. The only difference is I trained how I personally dress, wearing t shirts and sweaters, so I'd use my off hand to pull up the clothing as I drew instead of sweeping backwards with my dominant hand. I never really wear open clothing and it would be the wrong action at a critical moment. That's just my personal situation though. Love all the vids!

Maybe have a drawstring that runs inside the shirt from the holster side shirt front to the opposite side. With a couple of inches of hanging string that you grab with your non-shooting hand, you pull left/right and away from your body like you're putting your hands up. Your holster is uncovered and the bad guy distracted by your empty hand. Even a slow draw might do the trick!

I asked this question before but this video answers it. Draw time. I like my old 1873 single action in a standard western holster. With my hand off the gun my times from the timer beep are usually in the .7 second range with my .357. I am nowhere even close to being a great shooter like Jerry so it puzzles me that I could be quicker with a single action gun that I cock as I draw and shoot. Jerry is a champion so I can't believe I could get off two or three shots before his first one. I am nowhere near as fast or as accurate as him after the first two shots. What is the difference? I notice he is aiming that first shot while I am shooting from the hip but at seven yards I can hit a paper plate. Much beyond that range, I would be out of luck. In a shoot out Jerry looks invincible but maybe not with the slower first shot. There is always something more than meets the eye. I have a new 9mm auto with a new hip holster but I will have to get a timer again to run a comparison of draw times with my western rig.
