But before we get to step 1, did you know that only 95 of my viewers are subscribed? Like, share, and subscribe and hit the bell icon! Now let's learn how to row. Before we discuss the first step, check out my weight loss progress from having great rowing technique! This is a photo of me just 2 years ago! You can look like this if you watch this video. But before I show you step 1, did you know that I also row in real life? Check out all these places I've been!

I'm new to this, and do 3000 meters a day, really going for it. Hope to be able to do an hour like the other commenters eventually. Glad for this video, because I always kept my back straight; will add a lean at the end. Also, my head position was all wrong with my chin tucked; will keep head up.

I started a few months ago. I'd recommend getting your stroke per minute up and holding it above a certain number for half an hour straight. Then simply increase your stroke number each time until you reach a good killer workout. At the moment I keep mine above 30 per minute. Always sets me up well for the day.
@ttb1513 Жыл бұрын
@@mra4955You can also maintain the same 500m pace (or wattage) with a lower stroke rate by slowing down and really connecting and pressing hard. A higher stroke rate doesn’t necessarily mean a faster 500m pace.

Great video. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to keep my back straight on the finish or not. Seeing the demonstration, and the incline position will help prevent injury and back ache. This really helped me get my strokes right. It's been a long time since I was in an actual row boat. Thanks.

At 1:02 it says: "arms move first, then body swings forward, then the legs" - but in the very next repetition, she moves her arms and body at the same time? What is more correct - separating the arm return and the body return, or doing them at the same time?
@slider76313 жыл бұрын
Good question, since I am unsure too since a very long time I have been doing in it partial steps, legs-arms-arms legs, body always upright&tall with a slight 5-10degree backwards while pulling and forward when releasing. Shoulders slightly stretched backwards at the end of the pull to engage the back muscles and let it stretch forwards when releasing. Since I do it like this with these partial steps my movement doesn't look like as fluid as in the video if you know what I mean. I go for a harder setting too since I can't increase my stroke per minute with these steps. If I do it fast as in the video it doesnt feel like I am working out, feels like I can go on whole day. I'd also like to know the true proper technique and speed we should do it from a pro.

Wife just bought one. I'm more of a free weight guy. How many "reps" are rowers typically going for? Or is this usually a long endurance kind of thing? Like doing it nonstop for an hour or something? Wondering, because I don't feel like im getting much out of it on the highest resistance setting.
@concept2usa Жыл бұрын
People will do either shorter time domains e.g. interval/hiit training for lower 'rep' or people will do endurance 30 mins+ straight, and everything in between.

Roughly a month ago, I started rowing on a cheap machine available here. Initially, I trained for 5-10 minutes, whereas now I do a minimum of 45 minutes daily, and often sessions go beyond an hour (even up to 1 hour 20 minutes). Unfortunately, lately, rowing becomes extremely difficult after a while. Upon dismantling, I noticed it doesn't have a magnetic or air resistance system; instead, it uses an old-fashioned strap resistance, like what was used a century ago on agricultural tractors. A few days ago, I tried a Concept2 machine at maximum resistance, but somehow, rowing on it seems too easy. How realistic is this low resistance compared to actual rowing? Of course, I plan to replace my machine with a Concept2 because my forearm won't hold up for long like this. I already use weightlifting wrist support

The movement sequences are only clearly visible in single image mode. The steps in this video of 1 whole second in the normal view are not suitable for this. That would work after downloading. To do this I have to set up an “ACCOUNT” here, which I don’t want. I wish the videos could be downloaded directly from the Concept2 site.

I have lower back pain. I’m thinking of getting the rower to help me lose weight and strength my core. Would you recommend this machine for me or your bike?
@concept2usa5 жыл бұрын
Hello, with any pre-existing injury we would recommend consulting a physician or physical therapist for best practice for exercise. Both Ergs are great for cardio, weight loss and all around health. The RowErg is going to be more full body, but be sure to check with a professional health care provider on what will be best for you.

I have arthritis, and found that a Recumbent bike worked best. It prevented back fatigue, and still helped me get a decent workout. I bought the Exerpeutic semi recumbent 1110 years ago. I really liked that it took up so little space, folded even more compact, and was very well built. I have a magnetic rower now as well.

I have an idea for an exerciser that is better for the back and knees, you stand and move legs forward in oval motion that is connected to a crank for the arms, so you have the motion of running and swimming, the crank simulates swimming with motion starting either over the head and cranking progressively 'til reaching down towards the knees, and then progressively back up. great for the trunk, shoulders, legs (oval motion builds muscles all around instead of just forward and backwards)

I thought rocking back is bad for lumbar?
@concept2usa5 жыл бұрын
Rowing can strengthen the core (lumbar) by engaging these muscles at the finish of the stroke. The slight lean at the finish is correct technique; there should be no “rock” in a supported, strong position.

@@garyschreiber695 Hello, there's no quick answer for that. Spending more time on the Erg and supplementing with strength training would be a great start. Also spending time really working on stroke, timing and rate. It really comes down to practice makes perfect, and switching up what you do. Combining interval training with set pieces and a strength program would be a great start!
