Hi Jeanette. I have had to message to let you know after a hour or so head scratching I've done it. One has 3 and front and back the other has 2 plus the front and back. The diagram was fantastic, when I was having problems I got down on the floor and drew it out just like yours and it's worked. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH XXXX

I really appreciate the thoroughness of this tutorial. I am an abstract artist, and all of you folks who makes these beautiful books are so amazing to me, so I'm trying to learn. Thank you. Patricia

Beautiful! I also love how u lay things 2gether b4 gluing them down until u decide how u want them. A lot of people glue several things down n then just keep adding on top of the 1st items n u cant see those n it's just a total waste of beautiful n expensive trim n lace.

Great tutorial, Jeanette. I really enjoyed using your first single page method on my recent big album, though it was a bit tricky sewing the pages into place with the embellishments already on ...but I was really happy with the result, as my album looked like a real book even though it was heavily-embellished. I am guessing with this new method, with a bigger page, one would adjust the width of the gully in the centre ...making it that much wider? I shall definitely use this method with my next album. Thanks for taking the time to show us ...I feel positively excited at the thought of being in the draw & having the chance to maybe win one of these gorgeous albums. Hugs Dwyllis
@MiCottageCrafts
@MiCottageCrafts 10 жыл бұрын
Yes definitely adjust the width of the gully, this one is 3/4" and worked well for these pages but of course if you are embellishing heavily make the gully wider :) I hope you give it a try and thank you for watching Dwyllis :)

Hi Maryann, as someone who never uses hot glue on any of my projects I can honestly say that if you use a good quality fabric glue you will have no problems at all. Beautiful. I am in the process of making some of these books, but I have a question. Do you leave the edges of the inside pages square and then just glue the laces on them? TFS!
@MiCottageCrafts
@MiCottageCrafts 10 жыл бұрын
Hi there :) Yes I do tend to leave them square because you don't usually end up seeing them once they are decorated anyway. Of course you could curve them or cut them any shape you like once the binding part is done :) thank you for watching :)

Hi, I love watching your videos they are so informative and I have done quite a few things from your tutorials. I always look forward to something new from you as I just love working with lace. Now I am going to ask what you probably think is a stupid question. I have watched the book page challenge with interest but I don't understand the concept of it. What happens to the books you make up are they yours to keep or is it for something else. I do feel stupid not understanding this but would love to know. Please forgive my ignorance lol. Jean xx

Hi Jean :) My challenge was for people to make a 4"x6" page and send it to me, from all those pages that were sent I will make up books. I will put all the names of the people who sent me the pages into a bowl and pick out a winner for each book. If there are nine books then there will be nine lucky people who will have one of these books containing work from people from around the world :) I hope this helps :)

Pretty book, are your pages base made of cloth or cardboard? Is it a fonctional book to store your sewing needs or just for the pleasure of the eyes? Thanks

Hello there, the books are made from fabric. These ones are more decorative books but of course you can make them in to anything you want so they work well both ways :) thank you for watching

ScrappinHappyxo Crafts hi, can I add more pages if I want to, even when the book base first few pages have been sewn? Thanks

Are fabric books just for looking at or are they used for anything else

You can use them for anything you like, you can add paper into them for journaling or sample pieces of fabric, lace and buttons for keepsakes and reference, anything you can think of really :) thank you for watching Yvonne :)

Well I tried to give this a go and not sure what my problem was but I had the most difficult time trying to make this base. I probably spent over 2 hours and still had trouble and then when I went to sew the pages it was more problems. I had a hard time seeing what you were doing on the video and trying to get my folds and creases where they should be and then the pages, oh my goodness I had to keep ripping them out. What could be an easier way? Is there one? I really wanted to make this book. I ended up finally finishing it but I'm not happy with the result. I think you are explaining it well but I just couldn't understand it. I'm having a moment I guess

Hi there Kathy :) this tutorial was done to show how I was going to put specific books together for a challenge I was having (3 years ago) where people from around the world were sending me pages to attach, it is not the only way to make fabric books. Some people prefer to decorate their pages in the books as they go along. There are many ways to make fabric books (here's a couple more ways - kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5jNn4J3gNSceqM) and you just have to find the way that is comfortable for you. I use different methods all the time so there is really no right and wrong way to do them :) I truly hope you are not disheartened by your first book and are able to try again and enjoy the process. Thank you so much for watching and have a lovely day :) - Jeanette

Thank you so much for your response. I'm not discouraged and will keep trying. I haven't found the right method yet for me. I have been a sewer and quilter for over 40 years and I would hope I could figure this out for myself. I will keep trying and one day have that beautiful fabric book to enjoy. You are so sweet and kind. Best of everything to you.

You're very welcome :) perhaps you may enjoy making one like Margaret's, here is the link - kzbin.info/www/bejne/mYq2qmVta6Zrebs A lot of people use this method and enjoy it :)

Hiya love this tutorial but how would I do this to make a half circle book ? x
@MiCottageCrafts
@MiCottageCrafts 10 жыл бұрын
kazza1428 It could work by cutting the half circles once you had folded all your pages but I'm not sure, the second method should work no problems. I have another tutorial on book binding here - Fabric/Lace Book Binding Tutorials #2 - Two More Methods :) that may be better :)

Love this tutorial but what are your pages made from, the ones you will add to the base? Your books are gorgeous. Where do you get all the laces and embellishments? So pretty. Sorry for all the questions

Hello Kathy :) you can make the pages out of anything, cardstock, fabric etc. I was running a bookpage challenge at the time of this tutorial and people were sending me pages to add to the book base so it was entirely up to them how they made their pages :) making the pages from fabric keeps the book soft and if you use cardstock etc it will have a firmer feel. I find some laces and trims in thrift stores and I also buy some online. I do hope this helps :) - Jeanette

Thanks so much for your quick response. I've been checking on line for some laces and trims but so far no luck. Hopefully I can find some that are reasonably priced.

I am very sorry!!! But you have left me frustrated. I have followed and made your gussied calico book base. Then I am lost. If I don’t want a super chunky lace book. How do I use outside flaps of material. Do I put card stock in between pages. Lots left unsaid. Am bubbling away on my own

Hello Sandy, this tutorial was specifically made for a 'chunky' style fabric book, I was sent many pages by people and needed a base to attach the pages to. There are many tutorials on youtube now for different style books (there were none at the time I made this one) I have several on my channel also that may be much better for you :)
