we have a Naylor-Vickers 3 in Herefordshire at Downton-ont'-Rock but I don't know when, if ever they have been rung.

@simonbellringer What a rash comment. Some of Moseley bells are tonally halfway decent.
@timmeh150715 жыл бұрын
laughter was the reaction of most of our group when we went to ring at Waddesdon but these are even worse!

I liked Waddesdon after a while

They sound almost as lovely as Machynlleth

having managed to ring at York Minster last night, I can agree that Moseley are better. Just a little bit though.

Any chance we might persuade Emily that they're going to replace the Gillett 10 at Hanley and become the first steel 12? Haha! You know who I am, Kibby!

Oh aye. That York Minster? discordant pisspots!
@irkibby15 жыл бұрын
Fear not!! There is a grand scheme to replace these steel bells with a new 17cwt ten. I think the fate of these bells is still undecided.

If I was there I would probably be laughing my head off at how awful these bells were!

@Gophobos The fund raising is still a fair way off, so there's still a year at least I'd say. unfortunately peals are probably out of the question, as they are extremely loud in a built up area. There might be one last one but it would have all the SMG people in it.

why is the tenor unringable? as stated in dove.

Love "That's enough!" Oh dear Lord make it stop before I lose all my blood through my ears :'(
@timmeh150715 жыл бұрын
well that's impressive, I never knew bells could make such sounds. On the plus side having the notes all wrong improves ringing on 7... or not.
@jasonburnet91819 жыл бұрын
is there a video on KZbin with the 8 in it?

Lol at Dove's! "the 3rd is aprox a semitone flat" Listen to the rest! Beautiful!

I can't believe that they have been used as church bells - but despite that It would be a shame if there were no steel bells left. Part of our ringing heritege. Have them put in a tower miles from anywhere so we can still ring them but no one can hear!!
@irkibby15 жыл бұрын
"the 3rd, along with the rest of the bells, are hilarious" would be better.
@simonbellringer12 жыл бұрын
@Jeep192 No. Smash these up, Chalford in Gloucestershire are steel and a helluva lot nicer than these dustbins!!!
@irkibby15 жыл бұрын
go and have a look at them. Chances are that all three are the same note.

"that's enough" quite.

You have caused no offence. These bells are widely regarded as being of awful tone and they od not go easily either. I visited them on a ringing outing.
@1BODGER9515 жыл бұрын
Waddeson ain't bad really.
@elton19812 жыл бұрын
The problem is they were cast out of tune, the hum note is very sharp so even if retuned they’ll always sound odd.
@irkibby2 жыл бұрын
Actually, we have numerous testimonials from the Victorian era about how well tuned steel bells are. The way a bell sounds depends on the thickness of each part of the bell relative to itself and unfortunately steel bells rusted away at a heroic rate, destroying any kind of tuning they once had. These bells in particular were rusted so much that tuning would have either been a lost cause or simply caused bells to disintegrate entirely

It's kind of like a large glorified Corley, and funnier. The band who rang up actually couldnt manage rounds because they were laughing too much
@irkibby15 жыл бұрын
because it is lying on the floor of the belfry! the gudgeons failed last year while it was being rung.
