Yes! Finally! Their discography is a must. The trendsetters, the GOATS.

They were so ahead of their time. They came in and released 2 genre defining albums, then split up with no words from them since. Rumors says Muhammed has the unreleased 3rd studio album in his basement.

Well, the drummer just put out an album with a bunch of other collaborators and it's like an unofficial Necrophagist release including songs that were written back then but never finished or released until now.

Remember that technically, you'd want to learn to play it AND sing it at the same time if you wanna follow what Muhammed used to pull off live, still among the most ridiculous guitar + vocals coordination I can think of

I had to look that up but couldn't find it. I did find a clarinet cover of Fermented Offal Discharge though and was stunned. It was a little sloppy at the start but the dude got into it quickly and absolutely killed it with those fast runs and constant octave jumps.

@@CriticalReactions He has a few necrophagist covers. They get better as he gets better too. I do remember that one being a bit sloppy although I'd expect him to have passed out b4 then so I've got to give him some leeway.

I hope you'll do some The Zenith Passage too! To me, they really took up the torch Necrophagist left, and pushed the formula even further. Their latest album, Datalysium, is some of the best tech death I've heard.

The guitarist who wrote the solos which you enjoyed, Christian Munzner, went on to play in several other projects, including a progressive/tech death metal band which I have recommended to you: Alkaloid. Their Numen was my top favorite album from last year, and you were adding it to your listening list, so hopefully you did or will check it out!

One of my favourite thing about Necrophagist is the random lore factiods. Theres videos of people trying to track down Muhammed like he's a cryptid.

That album is a 10/10 for me. It's in some way, bizarre, that even back when I hadn't broken the barrier of being able to listen to harsh vocals yet, or stuff even remotely as heavy as this, this was the outlier. The quality of the writting and the playing just got me hooked.

Yeah you hit the nail on the head that it feels like there's a lot more despite the short length of the song. One thing to add and maybe you'll get to it later in the video, is that the context and timing of the song and this whole album when it was released was just so fresh. There have been technical death metal before this band for sure however these guys really set the bar. And so some of those elements that might seem almost stale now you have to remember 20 years ago we're not as prevalent. Every song on this album is absolutely awesome.

Check out The Zenith Passage. To me they are like the guys who decided to take up the challenge of continuing where Necrophagist left off in terms of composition. There are some major similarities but they do certain things differently especially in more recent releases.

In the 2000's, when taking your metal band pics together, if your at least one member of your metal band did not have a Necrophagist tee on then it was not worth the listen lol.

Peak musicianship, I learned to play this song a long time ago but now play boomer metal - way easier. Just wish the vocals were more clear like Chuck from Death. They need to release instrumentals of these records because the music is incredible.

@@CriticalReactions Yeah, Obscura is definitely a tough listen, even for people who have been listening to the genre for years, it's just so different from any other metal release that was coming out at the time. A fun fact about it is that, while it was released in 98, the entire material was actually written by the end of 93, so it's even more ahead of it's time, mind-blowing stuff
