There is no shame in simply having a different style. Art is about expressing yourself, after all, it isn't meant to please you or anyone else except the artist. But that goes both ways. The problem with things as they are now is that both sides are obsessed with shaming people for simply having preferences, though the Western side is definitely a lot more guilty of this. The side that prefers the Korean artists is usually more chill, it is rare to find someone like Vee who just wants to have ONE type of art and not the other, and thinks art exists to please anyone aside from the artist (it doesn't, and that kind of thinking is how we got "representation" and all that nonsense.) If someone wants to draw those CalArts things, let them do it. But if someone wants to draw in more of an anime style with fanservice and whatever else, ALSO let them do it. Trying to control artists one way or another is so pathetic, and political people need to just leave us alone.

The characters don't get into any sexual situations, but they are drawn like young women and men, there is cheeky humor, there is sexual/romantic tension, the boys are interested in the girls, the girls are interested in the boys, even though there's no sexual relationships in the show. The Japanese, and MHA Production Committee understand that this is all normal human development. Yearning for the love of the opposite sex, being titillated by the way each other looks, fascination with the strength of masculinity or the beauty of femininity, these are wonderful things. It never about complaining that the character look attractive. It about how they are drawn, no body will complain about a very conventionally attractive character but when the character is drew is a very explicit way then yes people will complain, it does feel objectifying. I am an artist with an anime art style myself but i can get it when people feel icky seeing female character drawn with ridiculous proportion. This video is just making a straw man, no one complain about attractive character, they complain because it feel like it objectifying woman.

Also notice, the American version has something on the floor obscuring three out of four feet and basically 3/4 of one of the hands is visible, while three and a quarter hands are tucked into the body, and rendered as blobs. That's sheer laziness. It's something real artists tell you you had better get over if you want to be a professional. You may have to redraw it 20 times, but you DO IT, because you're being paid, don't just hide the parts you can't draw. The Korean Manwha/Anime style uses simplified feet, but they are drawn correctly, and all the hands have fingers.
@Baron_WurstАй бұрын
The American version also has them covered in a massive shadow with only parts of the faces being luminated. Likely that people don't look too close and notice poor or lazy craftsmanship, and don't notice that they are supposed to be girls. While in the good version the shadows are the result of a light source and simulate a 3D effect on the characters and make the picture look more dynamic. By comparison the left picture looks more like a flat plain. The American version also lacks things like fabric effects on the plug suits and complex hair details, which made the characters so recognizable. The only "advantage" the American version has is that's it's more easily replicated by AI.
@Kensuke0987Ай бұрын
speaking of being professional, the Korean artist did a good job with drawing the characters faithful to the originals at least IMO. they didn't do their own take on them - they kinda just did what they were supposed to do. perhaps you could even say that they actually respected the original design and artwork.

"but that's creepy" will be the response at no point will the women ever suffer accountability for dressing this way, no matter how many times we tell them that men are visually activated, it will never be any amount of fault on their part, it will always be our fault for having eyeballs and being situationally aware enough to look at other people and not check our phones constantly while walking

The short hand is, step outside and see how people dress and look in reality. By comparison these drawings are tame and far more realistic than the ones on the left. It does more harm to people's self image to gaslight them into believing that women essentially look like teenage boys until they're in their 30s. It's just as bad as beauty standards. People feel bad enough about their body already. They don't need more negative feedback for existing. Women and men come in all shapes and sizes. for us normal people, diverse body types aren't an issue. In our world they're allowed to make these depictions. In their world we should be murdered on site for daring to make the image on the right or remotely liking it (you can like things platonically). One thing that I noticed with the way you talked about the characters is that you could actually notice the personalities of the characters from the right image, despite not knowing anything about the show. Evangelion’s character design is not complex, the blue-haired girl is a quiet, calm perfectionist, and the red-haired girl is outgoing, confident, and cocky. You can see this in the face and body language of the art. Meanwhile, the Western one has the exact same posture and facial expression in both characters to the point where I wouldn’t be able to distinguish what they are like in any way.

And this is coming from a straight hetero female who lives in America. Why..? Women have breasts! Women have ass, women have curves and actual feminine features! Yes sex appeal isn't always needed, but it's appreciated! I myself heavily enjoy seeing strong beautiful women in games that have no problem flaunting their feminity. Juliet from Lollipop chainsaw for example! Her design is so cute,fun,and girly until it drew me in and made me want to buy the game since it first came out! Sailor Moon! She's a magical girl who's powers literally rely on magic,love,and feminine beauty to help save the day! And so has every other magical girl heroine that has come before and after her. It's sad how a whole faction of insecure women only want to make female characters if they're heavily unattractive queer coded butches that demonizes feminity while howling about how their not like other girls. And then they wonder why Japan keeps slaying with their merch while America's market is dying. Never in my xx amount of years on this Earth would I ever think that it would be a crime to be or enjoy an effeminate woman
