Out of all of the dumb videos of men trying to justify why women should choose a man over a bear, that one really kills me. He literally hijacks a woman's traumatic experience to make it about him and other men. And he's not even right about what she would actually choose!!!

My mom is not on the internet. A few days ago, someone cleared the overgrown land in front of her house. She said she was happy they did it because she is afraid by the possibility that a man may hide in the tall grass I immediately remembered the bear thing and asked her "You are afraid of the man, but not even the snakes?". She said that a snake could just go away and don't hurt anyone
@Xeorboom
@Xeorboom 5 ай бұрын
snakes are still dangerous, atleast if a man is hiding in the grass it'd be kind of noticable but snakes are too small and stealthy! overall I'd have to pick the man this time because a randomised snake could bite me out of nowhere and I'd die quickly! Yeah, I'm not sure about snake attacks and all that. I just found it interesting that the first thing that comes to her mind every day when she lays eyes on that grass is the possibility of a man hiding inside it. She doesn't even think about snakes or other more likely dangerous things (because, as someone said, a man would still be visible). She instantly fears the man who could be there. This is the society where she grew up. This is the society we live in

So, fun fact, my aunt happens to be a bear attack survivor. She worked in the woods for most of her life and dealt with wildlife daily. It happened in autumn over 20 years ago, and she unfortunately had to put the bear down to survive, which she found extremely upsetting. I asked her the question. She picked the bear, and added that she'd even pick a bear over deer ticks (she hates parasites). She had hundreds of encounters with bears through her career, and all but one were completely non-threatening. They're mostly big raccoons, and they're terrified of you. They're not nearly as dangerous as people make them out to be. Humans, on the other hand, are very much unpredictable.

Look, as a lonely awkward kid, I can relate to following someone for a minute or two hyping myself up to ask for someone's number or start a conversation or something, to the point where they were a little uncomfortable (and then hating myself for making them uncomfortable afterwards). That being said, anything more than a minute or two is too much. Stalking is absolutely unacceptable. If you wanted to start a conversation with a person and either chickened out or failed to hype yourself up, I'm sorry, but you missed your shot. Maybe you'll see them again and get a second chance, but until then, you can't do anything else. Stalking is never acceptable, no matter how pretty they are or how awkward you are. I'm so sorry this happened to you both. Sending virtual hugs (with consent, of course) to you and anyone else reading this who was made to feel unsafe by someone.

Hi! Female hiker & backpacker here! Every single time I go hiking or have gone backpacking, especially when I went on a multi-day trip with another female friend, the concern has never been “oh what if we run into bears or coyotes or whatever?!” I have literally made the statement “it’s not the animals I’m afraid of. It’s the people.” Mind you, I don’t specify “it’s the men, all men are so scary and evil.” But on that days-long trip on mountain trails with just myself, another girl, and her dog, it wasn’t worry of bears that kept me from falling asleep every night.

Hi Male hiker and backpacker here... We men avoid treks and tours in which there are women participants. Because most of these female solo travellers or female trekkers only create problems for other male travellers and male trekkers in the group.. So, now we men avoid going for tours or treks in which there are other women participants. Even if there are women in our tour group or trek group, we avoid talking to these women participants because they usually ask us for some help..
@Don_com_cq
@Don_com_cq 22 күн бұрын
We do many road trips in our SUV all over our country. Along the way we can see many solo women travellers and local women also who are waiting for some vehicle to reach her destination. Local Women know that we are tourist men and so we will not give free lift to unknown women in our car, if women ask us men directly. Men will think that she is planning to do some scam on him and so he will not alllow unknown women to enter his car. So, instead of asking us directly, women will select an intermediary like restaurant owner or tea shop owner etc to ask on behalf of her if we can take her in our car to the next bus stand or town ..
@Don_com_cq
@Don_com_cq 22 күн бұрын
Example.. We go for lot of road trips in our car to tje mountains and other isolated routes which have very little public transport like bus. On the way we see many solo female travellers and also local women who are stuck in various restaurants along the way without any bus to her destination.. So, these women will ask the restaurant owner or tea shop owner to ask someone to take her to her destination. So, if we stop our car in any such restaurant and order food, while we are eating food, the restaurant owner will come near us, befriend us and ask us, where us we are going, our job, our tour plans etc and then after we pay the bill, he will ask us if we can take 2 of his friends to the next destination. He will not tell that those are 2 women passengers.. Thinking that they are 2 male passengers, we agree. Then suddenly when the restaurant owner calls the women only do we realise that the passengers are 2 women. But, because we already agreed to the restaurant owner in the beginning without asking the gender of his friends, we are now trapped because we cannot change our word now. So, we will be forced to take these women to their destination.
@Don_com_cq
@Don_com_cq 22 күн бұрын
Also, we men travel from our home by flight or train and join a tour group whom we are seeing for the first time as part of an organised package tour to places like high altitude mountain tourist destinations etc. Many families with husband, wife and daughter etc from other parts of the country also join this tour group. Most of these married men traveling with family start drinking alcohol in the bus itself. So, in the night, these family men will be completely drunk in their hotel room and unable to walk and the tour guide will also be drunk and unable to walk. So, once in a high altitude mountain resort, at the night at the hotel, 1 girl had low oxygen saturation or acute mountain sickness, and both her father and the tour guide were drunk and unable to walk, and so we 4 men had to take this stranger girl and her mother to the government hospital in the tour bus for treatment.
@Don_com_cq
@Don_com_cq 22 күн бұрын
We are also members of many trekking groups. And we do online booking for many treks. But, when the trek starts we see that there are many unknown women whom we are seeing for the first time in our trekking group. Unfortunately most of these women are not able to climb the hills and some of these women will have to be carried by us for many kilometres just because we cannot leave these women alone in the forest even though we don't know them and we are seeing them for the first time. Most of the time the women who are able to walk cannot carry her own back pack and we men in the group will have to carry some of these women's backpack along with his own backpack.

He draws a caricature, relating to the incident, about a girl encountering a bear in the woods and feeling relief that it was not a man. Keep in mind that he does this a couple days after the girl was found (in the woods). Best case scenario is that the picture has a very unfortunate timing. They’re straight men, and it wasn’t for their sexual gratification or because they “just couldn’t help themselves.” It was deliberate and simply to prove that they could do anything that they wanted to me. But, because time passes and cognitive dissonance is a bitch, my girlfriend brought the bear thing up a while back and I got defensive and instantly spouted the “not all men” argument. It took me a while to come to terms with the fact that, given the choice, I’d also choose bear.

I live in a very rural area with a forest in my backyard where there are sometimes bears that show up. The thing is, the bear will most likely run the opposite direction and leave me alone when it sees me. Men that get mad that we don't want to come across a man while we are alone in the forest don't realize that it's not them personally. It's just that so many men are creepy how are we to know by looking which one will help us find our way out of the woods and which one will try to put his hand down our pants even when you ask him to stop. That happened to me when I was a young woman. I was stuck in a pick up truck on a backroad with a couple friends and two guys. We were on our way back from a trip to go swimming at a creek in the woods. No matter what I tried the dude would not get his hand out of my shorts on my bare whooha. Was it my fault for wearing a bathing suit? Edit to add, these guys were supposed to be our "friends"...if we can't even trust men who are our supposed friends how can we trust men who are strangers. It's for sure not All men, or even close to all men, but it's a lot of men, and we don't know which ones they are.

Remember that - unlike what a lot of these chuckle nuts wanna believe (when its convenient to them anyway) - men are trained to think this way - its not some natural aspect of just being a man. A lot of media also paints it that way due to said culture. These men are convinced of this because - even if only passively - this is what they are told women are for. Therefore almost every women is viewed through the lens of what the man desires - it's also why so many guys act confused that woman would dress up or wear makeup or even act in a certain way including having hobbies for any reason outside of winning a man.

No, it's because you're statistically safer with the bear. Literally. It is very easy to not be attacked by a bear, because bears generally don't WANT to attack. Bears don't usually take sadistic joy in mauling humans. Bears aren't known to enjoy eating humans unless they are quite literally starved. If you come across a bear in the woods, and turn around and leave it alone, it's very likely to leave you alone. A man? Not so much. Women choose the bear because they know what a man will do to them if he sees her. She can't turn and walk away from him, because he will follow and hunt. A bear wont.

It was so tragically sad for me to read a comment by a male victim of a female r@pist: “Despite being harmed by a woman, women are still the only ones to believe me” And holy fuck dude. I broke. That is so disgustingly tragic, this dude was straight up attacked in a horrible way by woman but he still feels he can trust women more than men for the simple fact that women on average were the only one’s to actually show him support compared to his fellow men. Men typically live in a separate reality of safety than women, and male victims live an even more separate reality than that. Whereas women spend a large amount of time making sure they can defend themselves in case something does happen, pepper sprays and drink caps alike. Men describe emotional and financial safety. And male victims… they describe how they don’t feel safe physically with women, and don’t feel safe emotionally with men. Female victims with male perpetrators obviously don’t feel safe physically or emotionally with men, but they tend to at least feel safer in both ways with women. Male victims are existing in a horrible limbo just for their gender and that’s a horrible reality to grapple with. Nobody is suffering “worse” in this scenario, it’s just suffering in a uniquely horribly way.

I went on a trip recently, my first solo trip. The very first day, I couldn’t even walk a block away from my hotel without a man following me. He followed me for two or three blocks, tried to grab me to lead me to a second location, and only left me alone when I lied and said I was going to meet friends. When I went home, and I told my family about it, instead of “I’m sorry that happened to you”, I got, “why didn’t you go into a store? Why weren’t you carrying paper spray? Why didn’t you call 911? What were you wearing?”. Even my therapist asked those. This is why women choose the bear. If I were to return from my trip and say “I almost got attacked by a bear”, I’d just receive “I’m so sorry! As a male survivor of a female perpetrator I completely understand why most women choose the bear , they don’t know what man they would get and they can’t know if he’ll do something or not. I don’t feel attacked at all when women say they would choose the bear because I know even if I’m not a threat they can’t know that immediately same with any other man. Men can be very scary and I know quite a few women and enbys who are also survivors of SA harassment or DV , the perpetrators were anyone from a random crew member backstage to their intimate partners or even their own fathers. The thing is those people actually understand and empathize and respect with my experiences, much more than the random men on the inside weaponizing the trauma of other people like myself just to try and get back at women who are justified in being wary of men they don’t know. I hate when misogynistic men use the trauma of people like me just to get back at women , even though they are probably the same people who would call us “lucky” for being victims. Meanwhile all the women I know who are survivors also care about and respect male survivors much more than those random guys who just use us to invalidate the women who share similar trauma to us. Moral of the story, male survivors are NOT a gotcha moment we are real people.

Depends on the bear really. Kodiak and Polar bears would actively hunt you, so I'd take a man in that situation. Grizzly is 50/50, and spectacled bear, black bear, panda bear, sun bear and sloth bear I'd take 100% The variable is thrown off based on which person I'd be with, if the "safe" bears have kids, (calling em safe but they're still wild animals that should be respected) and if pandas are actually more carnivorous when wild (there's not many of them left in the wild so they could be more omnivorous than we'd expect) As a fun bonus, I'd take Red Pandas and Koala Bears (these aren't actually bears, members of Ursidae, but we call em bears) and I'd take the red panda home with me and make a friend. If it's a water bear, most likely you already have more than one of those in your house so it'd just be a hike. Edit: oh also in terms of extinct bears, if you're with the greater short faced bear and cave bear no one will save you because those bears directly competed with humans, so I don't think they'd be too keen on having a stinky hominid in their habitat. Humans are directly responsible for their extinction after all. If it's the dawn bear, you take it home and become friends because it was herbivorous, looked like a dog and was the size of a cat. Dog bears I dunno enough about to say. Edit 2: oh I just thought of this, as far as prehistoric animals that aren't bears we call bears, 50/50 for bear dogs (amphicyonidae) since there's variation in size and their behaviour isn't certain since they're so old.

I went camping alone a year ago whilst doing one of those ‘self-searching’ trips, I purposefully went to an unpopulated and rather wild area in my country to get that secluded feel. I’ve been camping a lot and I get up to shit like this like really often and I’d call myself experienced, my country doesn’t have bears but there’s other apex predators that I’d say are equally scary. I went off to a piece of land on a dirt road till I decided it was far enough and left my car(I was in the middle of nowhere and it’s a shitbox so it getting stolen wasn’t a concern) and hiked with my pack a couple kilometres away to get that extra isolated vibe. I had my tent pitched and put together a fire pit a little before dark, I was tired from the walk and setup so I went to sleep around sundown, I woke up in the middle of the same night cause I heard something walking right outside the tent. I immediately assumed it was a caracal cause I’ve had them stalk and check out campsites in the past, I felt completely safe with the thought that an apex predator that is prone to hostility if threatened was right next to me. It’s guaranteed that there are many caracals in the area because they belong in the ecosystem, I am in it’s territory and it’s only natural. Problem was that after a few minutes of hearing movement a flashlight shined into my tent, a person was outside my tent not a caracal. A person is outside it’s habitat being all the way out here and approaching a tent dead at night, this terrified me and I didn’t move a muscle till I heard heard him leave, I waited a full hour to confirm they were gone. I got the fuck out of there as quickly as I possibly could, I left everything without a second thought. When I made it to my car there was a pickup parked next to it, I was 40km from any farms and around 100km from the nearest town. I chose a completely random dirt road on an untouched, completely wild desert, the road was overgrown and i reached the end then went on foot till I lost sight of the car. This person followed me and waited till I was asleep to get close, a fucking lion or leopard at least are supposed to be there and it’s normal. A man being there means he went out of his way to carefully tail me without me noticing, I drove through the night and well into morning while exhausted just to get to a town. As a man, I choose bear/lion/leopard rather than another man, no doubt in my mind about that. I didn’t know who that stranger was, I didn’t know what intentions he had, he may have wanted to simply just check in on me. I did not want to take that risk regardless, by venturing out into desert I accepted the fact that dangerous animals could and likely will be amongst me. I chose wild animals as opposed to a man, most solo campers I know carry a handgun to protect themselves from strangers and not animals. The people who go away from people and sleep near wild animals that could kill them, are afraid to encounter a person.

Something I read somewhere: “Men’s biggest fear about women is that we’re going to laugh at them. Women’s biggest fear about men is that they’re going to kill us.” Another thing I read in another comment section: “A bear wouldn’t get joy from my pain.” My former therapist (a man) once told me that it makes perfect sense for women to be cautious, because any new man they meet could actually be a serial killer. A lot of the dudes who don’t get it and brush it off as stupid do so not just because they imagine the man being them specifically, but because we see men as just people and assume that people as a whole are better than that. (Unfortunately, incorrect) I myself was confused until I read other comments and watched the rest of the video. Now I get it. 4:09 in particular was really eye-opening. That being said the dudes who let their true colors show (like at 13:41) are the types of dudes that make women choose the bear. Funky if your reading this, Fantastic video. Hopefully society evolves and “the Bear Question” will one day be a lesson in history class to explain the severity of the western Patriarchy.

Theres a Tiger vs Woman trend and its upsetting how men started it to mostly use it to shame women or try to act all tough saying "tiger, because she wont make fun of my height" while women choose bear for much better safety(they know bears CAN still attack as they are not toddlers who forget bears are wild animals) and the issue men commonly or say or bring up in the trend is theyre scared of the myth of gold diggers using them as the worst thing to happen to em by women?? Its sad for that but also a very wasted potential since that trend can be an outlet for any sa survivors who were specifically sa'd by women regardless of gender for victim but especially for men who were and developed trauma of women and are scared of them even if statistically and logically theyre very much safe around women in general and less likely to be targeted for sex, because trauma doesnt care whats most likely to happen it has happened and the body reacts as if it could or is about to happen in rational and irrational manners. Invalidation, mockery, and normalization of victim shaming/blaming tho, do amplify that victim's skepticism and fear. I dont want men to keep being gaslighted by men (and some women) that they can never be sa'd, their experience, if its not used to diminish someone else's experience of sa, should be heard, validated, and sympathized. Its also unfortunate the dumb sexist men who created the tiger vs woman trend and made it viral to make fun of women werent thinking properly since a tiger is one of the major animals existing that is known to actively attack humans. Luckily tho, Ive seen tiktoks of men who used it for a good purpose to showcase their personal horrible sa exp, same goes that theres a lot of men who say their own sa exp. With women and also with men using men vs bear. Despite statistic showing only 7-14% of men are sa victims, its women who in the comments are the ones more likely to empathize, even some going so far to apologize in behalf of the assault with the self awareness that the perpetraror probably would not ever apologize and doesnt blame him or try to make fun via calling out the technical flawed logic of tiger vs woman because a tiger is actively dangerous, because at the end of the day, man vs bear or women vs tiger, is a hypothetical question. If men cant empathize why women choose bear, its because of that ignorance and lack of at least sympathy. p.s the statistic is from both "Male Victims of Sexual Assault: A review of the literature" by John C. Thomas & Jonathan Kopel and taken from the "National Alliance to End Sexual Violence" website

They'd literally rather more women get raped or killed due to taking less precautions, than risk having their *feelings hurt* over said precautions.

As a solo traveler, I’ve stayed in many primitive and backcountry campsites by myself and I’ve most definitely thought about this question many times. Let me tell you something, when you are in a tent, in the middle of nowhere, and you hear a questionable rustling outside, as a woman and horror movie fan, I pray it’s a bear. Bears are meant to be there, a human bumping into your site, when no one else is around, likely has bad intentions. The bear wants food, you just happen to be around. The man, most likely wants you! Fun fact: I posted this comment in another video on the same topic and men were going wild in the replies.

For me, I agree with the sentiment of everyone saying that the men are freaking out over this, but I'd rather have a man come up on my site in the middle of the night than a bear, lol. If you're packing(at least what I advise and what I do), you can deal with a human intruder. Stop a hungry or aggressive bear in your campsite? Yeah, fat chance. Ik this has nothing with the question, I'm just dumping thoughts lol. Although you could probably scare a black bear off

I am concerned bcs there are many pedophiles (with families) and they're out on the internet harassing children.

Every time I've brought this up, men have repeatedly asked how my father would feel about me fearing men, which always made me laugh because my dad bought me pepper spray when I moved out and told me to never walk with both headphones or be alone at night. And the unfortunate reality is the reason he knows I have to take these precautions is because he has four sisters and saw how women are treated and the violence they face first hand, and had it not been for him having those sisters and those experiences he probably wouldn't be inclined to agree with me that men are something to be cautious of. Men, even the 'good ones' like my dad, were most likely shaped by women in their lives who endured violence and struggles, not by empathy alone.

My mom at 16 was r*aped by a 20 year old man who she was supposed to trust. A friend of mine almost died at 14 because a random group of men gang r*aped her while beating her. I’m so fortunate that I’ve never had an attack, but I was terrified of something happening once when I was on a date when I was 16 because we carpooled with his friends (all guys) and the way they talked about me (rarely ever to me) made me feel extremely unsafe. Or at 21 when a 40-50 year old man I didn’t know starts talking to me, alone, saying I should be his wife, not listening when I tried to turn it down. The men I know right now are some of the best I’ve ever known, and if I could get a guarantee that I’d be in the woods with one of them, I’d absolutely say man. But I don’t have that. Instead, I have the chance to get stuck alone with one of these monsters. At least with a bear, even if it mauls me to death, I know that’s the worst it will do. Bear. Every time.

In one case someone was attacked by nature, a system we disrupted and have taken over. In the other case the man is doing it just for funsies! Because he wants to! This would have very different mental impacts. The trust issues would be far different.

The guy suggesting that women who have experienced assault have had 'privileged lives' due to the fact they haven't ever been attacked by a bear absolutely raged me to the core. I don't meet many women who can't relate to me when it comes to trauma at the hands of a man. Far less shocking or suprising to hear about than a bear attack.

There's a very simple analogy that makes you realize just how stupid this man vs bear argument is. The analogy goes as followed: "Would you rather be stuck in the forest with a bear or a black dude?" The reason this stumps a lot of people is because people are very comfortable making biased or discriminatory statements when it comes to sex (mostly when it comes to males), but not when it comes to race, because then they'd be racists. It's the same thing. One makes you a racist, the other makes you a sexist. Hope this helps!

Bears won't vote for your human rights to be taken away and tell you that men own your body, bears won't assault you when you're 12 and then claim you're a liar when you report it, bears won't threaten to bash your brains in because they were in a drunken induced rage... I could go on and on over the fear and trauma I've faced in my life simply for just existing. And this is just one person. These stories aren't uncommon, at all.

A bear would kill me on the spot and leave, a man might take 44 days first and still not leave my dead body alone." Then proceeded to insist that women are just as likely to kill men so they're also picking the bear and they should be able to say "all women are toxic gossipers and gold diggers" I hate this world
