Just to let everyone know, there are some other insiders coming out and saying that the 400 million number is laughably wrong. Colin has good track record, but it's important. This game was obviously a monumental failure, but I don’t buy the 400 million dollar budget. The developer is either exaggerating, getting their wires crossed or something is being lost in translation. Developers wouldn’t even be privy to that kind of information. The long term budget IF the game continued long term would have maybe projected to have been that amount, but 400 million for four years of active development with an 150 person team makes no sense. Not to mention the fact that this game had close to no marketing.
@DMP19823 ай бұрын
@@rafterman5072 yep this seems off. Just that some ‘reliable’ source says it was 400million it doesn’t mean it is the truth. It makes no sense you can burn that much money on the development of this game with the 0 marketing behind it.

I suspect black rock (the investment group) are pulling strings with executives to not only make games like this but to also short the stocks of game companies so they can swoop in and buy more shares. This kind of corporate espionage should be illegal

To put it into perspective, here's some things that cost around 400 million: Space Shuttle Launch (450 million) The building of Paris Line 14 and Berlim line U5 (200 million each) Five F-35 Lighting II stealth fighters (80 to 100 million each) 400 Bradley IFVs (1.11 million each) The yearly commercial and real-state revenue of the whole catholic church (585 million)

The studio is based in Washington near Seattle, it's not a cheap location. Firewalk Studios was part of ProbablyMonsters who got a lot of seed funding, part of the money may be the seed funding money? edit makes me think of John Romero and Daikatana.

I have no idea why people had faith in Hermen Hulst. From what I can tell, he was one of the big pushers of PS moving away from Japan. Sure Jim Ryan put PS towards the path, but Hermen put Sony on an equally distructive path and basically stripped Japan out of Playstation. He also pushed for the closure of Japan studios. I would even bet that he ignited an anti-Japan movement over at Japan, because the shift PS had from just a few years ago, when they were still headquartered at Japan, but moved to Cali, I'd bet that was in part Hermen's doing. Stripping JP out of PS was the worst thing to happen to PS. The moment, or even before he was put in charge, he imediately put PS down this path. A path towards still some live service, but also this out of touch design and themes around these games that FEELS like it came straight out of LA and Montreal.

Good video! I just want to add to your assumption that Concord only happened because of Jim Ryan, no. Hermen hulst, who now leads Playstation, shares the same enthusiasm for live service games. And Sonys CEO also reiterated a few months ago that live service games is how they plan to finance the ever growing budgets of their cinematic single player games. This situation cant be pinned on one person.

Sony will not die though so its just a small hit in their overall financials Unless Sony Music stops its recording label, Sony Imaging can no longer develop their own sensors, Sony Finance had a bank run, Sony Films just collapse, Sony semiconductor ran out of sand, Sony Appliance can no longer buy parts from Sony Semiconductor, and Sony computer in the same alley I'm pretty sure they still make VAIO laptops.....

The strategy behind MVP is to get a product to market as quickly and cheaply as possible to find out how the market will react to it and to build on it or pivot using market feedback. It is a risk mitigation strategy and allows you to gather requirements using real world data rather than trying to figure out what people might want.

This doesn't sound realistic, especially knowing how small this team was during most of this game development. This studio was officially formed in 2018. In 2019, there was a dev count of 13 working out of the studio heads attic. Sony announced partnership in 2021. 2022, they finally got an official studio, and the headcount around 100. I'm supposed to believe they were already funded 200 million before even Sony stepped in? Probably Monsters got all the funding through kickstarting. The most they ever had is about 200 million spread through 4 different development teams. None of this adds up to a quarter of this 400 million cost.
